USA Today Published 6:53 a.m. ET Nov. 30, 2017 | Updated 3:56 p.m. ET Nov. 30, 2017

Sears Holdings reported a third-quarter loss Thursday as the ailing department-store chain seeks stability and faces a critical test during the holiday shopping season.

After more than 400 recently announced store closures aimed at removing its weak spots, Sears said it lost $558 million for the quarter ended Oct. 28.

Despite the red ink, investors were heartened at first, sending shares up at much as 28% before they turned lower by late afternoon..

With gift buying in full swing, Sears confronts the challenge of  trying to draw shoppers to stores as they increasingly flock online or to the retailer's nimbler physical competitors.

Like other retailers, the company is aiming to bolster its shop-online-pick-up-in-store options to generate more business. Sears is also betting on a ramped-up loyalty program, called Shop Your Way, to lure customers.

Australia/NZ / AUSTRALIAN RETAIL SALES TANK
« on: November 23, 2017, 03:05:00 PM »

Australian retail sales tumbled in August, continuing a worrying downturn seen in recent months.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), nominal spending fell by 0.6% in seasonally adjusted terms, missing forecasts for an increase of 0.3%.

The decline was larger than even the most pessimistic forecast offered by an individual economist, and was the steepest monthly decline since March 2013.

Excluding food, providing a better guide to spending on discretionary items, sales fell by a smaller 0.5%, leaving the increase on a year earlier at 2%.

Sales for July, originally reported as flat by the ABS, were also revised down to show a decline of 0.2%.

As a result of the ugly August report and downward revision to July’s figure, the year-on-year pace of sales slowed to 2.13%, the slowest increase since July 2013.

Amazon Australia has just launched. Let the scapegoating begin. Children's T-shirts at major clothing / homewares discount retailer Best & Less are as low as $2.75 - unheard of in my time, when I was parenting children.

Vaccinations for Australia

There are no mandatory shots required to enter Australia.

It is always worth having a Tetanus/Diphtheria shot done if one has not been given in the past 10 years. Doing the shot now will provide 10 years of Tetanus protection and means that in the event of a cut, it will not be necessary to look for a Tetanus shot.

If a traveller is stopping off in South East Asia while going to or returning from Australia, it is a good idea to get a shot done to cover Hepatitis A/typhoid.

The risk of Rabies in Australia is virtually nil. The risk is Hepatitis B is extremely small.

Additional vaccinations for South East Asia to cover Hepatitis B and Rabies should be considered by travellers planning to:

Undertake voluntary work in South East Asia (orphanages, hospices)
Spend several weeks in rural or poor regions or South East Asia (e.g Laos, Cambodia, Burma).

Research proves weather modification has been going on for over 100 years. Half a century back research into stopping hurricanes was under way. Laws exist from the UN to big nations stating it is unlawful to use weather as a weapon during war time. So is it legal to create bad weather if war is not declared? I think it is - probably.

Animal Farm, Brave New World & 1984 were all written for a reason in my view. They are pre-echoes of the coming times and also a blueprint of the methods being used. These books probably also serve as a warning seeking tacit permission from those who do not take action. Orwellian times are here now. What say you?

I recently found a Cherry Ripe at my local Coles Supermarket that was dated to expire in 2015. Have to wonder how that was even still in circulation. Both Cadbury and Nestle chocolates are down to 85c a few days a week, then up to 2 for $3 on other days. Prices on packaged goods are dropping rapidly. Not that I buy many, but items like biscuits (cookies) were 2 for $5 across many brands along the aisle when I was there yesterday (Sunday 6th August). Beef is at $13.00 per kilo. 0.542grams of offcuts for the dog cost $7.05. My dog pretty much lives on these offcuts, usually getting no less than 0.400grs daily, so it's starting to add up over the week. Red grapes from the U.S. were at $7.00 a kilo.

Australian government to track $100 notes with nano-chips as cashless society looms

9 July 2017

The Australian government plans to crack down on the ‘black economy’ by implanting $100 and $50 notes with hi-tech nano-chips so they can be surveilled.

No this isn’t a futuristic Hollywood movie, this is Australia in 2017.

With around 300 million $100 notes in circulation carrying out such a task seems almost impossible to derive any value, let alone a waste of time and tax payer money.

Especially at a time when Australia’s household debt-to-income is at an all time high.

Nevertheless Michael Andrew, the man appointed by the Federal government to lead the ‘Black Economy Taskforce’ at the end of 2016 believes tracking the currency denomination is the best solution in stopping unwanted transactions from taking place and people avoiding paying tax.

According to the The Treasury the black economy:

“…refers to people who operate entirely outside the tax and regulatory system or who are known to the authorities but do not correctly report their tax obligations.”

That sounds good and well until we read on to find out who these people targeted by the agency actually are and how they seem to think $100 note is to blame.

Mr Andrew claims that the $100 note should be tracked with nanotechnology due to:

Australian pensioners hoarding money under their bed to escape asset tests.
Chinese citizens taking Australian $100 notes back to China because it is apparently more trusted than the internationally superior Yuan.

This government created Black Economy Taskforce wants us to believe that Grandma is hoarding hundreds of thousands of dollars under her mattress in stacks of $100 notes.

General News/Discussion / Update: The 440Hz Vs 432Hz Dilema In Music.
« on: June 30, 2017, 07:05:04 PM »
Posted by Crrow777 on 29 June 2017 - a follow-on from the original video posted.

Modern music seeks to lower the minds of all of us. This may seem a bold statement but it is none the less true. Music started to be weaponized in the 30’s when orchestral A was changed to the 440 Hz tuning. What followed was the declaration of war on the young generation of the 60’s. A war that was so successful we all live in the construct that followed. LSD anyone? The Beatles and the Grateful Dead said it was OK. And by the way cocaine is not addictive so let’s get high and listen to Disco.
