The half dime doesn't have silver in it, its just copper and nickel.

From Wiki
The half dime, was a silver coin, valued at five cents, formerly minted in the United States.

Some numismatists consider the denomination to be the first coin minted by the United States Mint under the Coinage Act of 1792, with production beginning on or about July 1792. However, others consider the 1792 half dime to be nothing more than a pattern coin, or 'test piece', and this matter continues to be subject to debate.[1][2]

These coins were much smaller than dimes in diameter and thickness, appearing to be "half dimes". In the 1860s, powerful nickel interests successfully lobbied for the creation of new coins, which would be made of a copper-nickel alloy; production of such coins began in 1865 and were struck in two denominations — three and five cents (the latter introduced in 1866).

The introduction of the copper-nickel five-cent pieces made the silver coins of the same denomination redundant and they were discontinued in 1873.

The following types of half dimes were produced by the United States Mint or under the authority of the Coinage Act of 1792:

Contents
    1 1792 Half Dime
    2 Flowing Hair 1794-1795
3 Draped Bust (Small Eagle Reverse) 1796-1797
4 Draped Bust (Heraldic Eagle Reverse) 1800-1805
    5 Capped Bust 1829-1837
6 Seated Liberty (various subtypes) 1837-1873
    7 1870-S half dime

Until 1829 it showed no value anywhere on its obverse or reverse.

From http://www.coinfacts.com/half_dimes/half_dimes.html
It may be long forgotten by the general public, but the United States coinage system commenced with a silver 5-cent coin rather than that of nickel composition in use today.

1792, 1794, 1795, 1796 and 1797 was produced of .8924 fine silver with a weight of 20.8 grains.
16 known specimens.

Both the Capped Bust and Seated Liberty designs were used for half dimes struck during 1800 - 1873. The Act of Jan. 18, 1837 authorized the new Seated Liberty design and also authorized a coin of the slightly lower weight of 20.625 grains struck of .900 fine silver. The diameter remained at 15.5 millimeters.

Update

http://news.yahoo.com/radioactive-material-stolen-mexico-officials-174602973.html

The truck was found shortly after it disappeared, but the radioactive material remained missing, National Civil Protection Coordinator Luis Felipe Puente posted on his Twitter account.

Puente confirmed a few hours later that the radioactive material had also been located.

The container "was not violated, it contains the material, which was measured," he added in an interview with Milenio television.

"As it wasn't manipulated, there was surely no risk to people," Puente said.
