Minnesota: Tim Walz raised property taxes 27% to pay for all the empty buildings in downtown

Because they have to pay for all the empty buildings that are in this downtown. Building after building is empty. Shop after shop. No one’s there anymore. The restaurants have closed down.
And who’s footing the bill? It’s the people that live in Minneapolis. They’re paying 20- 27% more than to cover the lease on these buildings. The taxpayers are paying for these empty buildings. Why are these buildings empty? Well, one reason why is because Governor Tim Walsh does not require federal employees to go to work here. They’re still working from home.
Therefore, no one’s coming down here to work. Crime has went up in this city because no one’s coming to work. Everyone’s left. No shops are open, no restaurants are opened. This is what is happening in Minneapolis. It is actually a dying city, and it’s very sad. One good thing, though, if you did come to this city, you’d actually save a lot of money because.
Because there’s nowhere to shop. It’s a beautiful city, but it’s a dying city. Governor Tim Walz, we dodged a bullet not having him as a VP.” **Quick context: The governor doesn’t have authority over federal workers coming into the office, those building contracts should be terminated. Tim Walz is responsible however for all the businesses closing and the state employees that don’t have to come into work
US Retail Sales Tumbled In May As Gas Prices Fell, Car-Buying Stalled
And after the small 0.1% MoM rise the prior month was revised to a 0.1% MoM decline, BofA was right again with Retail Sales tumbling 0.9% MoM in May – the biggest drop since March 2023…

The big driver of downside was a drop in Gasoline Station sales – which makes some sense as gas prices have tumbled – and an even bigger drop in Auto Sales (as the tariff front running surge evaporates)…

JUST IN – Trump officials reverse guidance exempting farms, hotels from immigration raids — WaPo
— Disclose.tv (@disclosetv) June 17, 2025
- For years, liberal advocacy groups and complicit media outlets have pushed a narrative that sounds almost too good to be true: illegal immigrants are contributing $96 billion annually in taxes while maintaining higher employment rates than native-born Americans.
- The $96 billion figure lumps together sales taxes paid by everyone, excise taxes on gasoline and utilities, property taxes supposedly “indirectly paid through rent”, which is an economic fallacy, and a small fraction of actual income taxes.
- Advocates then present this mix as if undocumented immigrants are dutifully filing tax returns and contributing to Social Security like law-abiding citizens.
- They are not.
- One of the most egregious manipulations is counting rent payments as “indirect property tax contributions.” This violates basic economic principles. When someone pays rent, they are buying housing services from a landlord. The landlord pays property taxes from rental income, but tenants are no more “paying property taxes” than they are paying the landlord’s mortgage or maintenance costs. That’s why renters cannot claim these deductions on their tax returns.
- Another major misrepresentation involves Social Security. Liberal groups claim undocumented workers “pay into Social Security without drawing benefits,” creating a net gain.
- The way the scam works: multiple illegal workers use the same borrowed or false Social Security number, a crime, and all earnings are credited to that one legal person’s account. For example, five individuals might use the same SSN to drive for Uber or deliver for Grubhub. At retirement, the person who owns the SSN collects benefits based on all their combined earnings. Liberals argue that only 20% of illegal workers draw benefits, but one person receives payouts inflated by multiple workers’ contributions.
- There’s no net gain. Contributions are misattributed, resulting in higher benefits for a single recipient.
- While liberal groups exaggerate economic contributions, they downplay the negative impact on the U.S. job market. Basic economics: as labor supply rises and demand stays constant, wages fall. With an estimated 11–18 million undocumented workers, many from countries where U.S. minimum wage is aspirational, the labor supply is artificially inflated, especially in unskilled and semi-skilled sectors.
- Foreign-born workers make up over 19% of the U.S. workforce, more than 32 million out of 169 million, and consistently have higher labor force participation rates than native-born Americans. This displaces U.S. workers and puts downward pressure on wages across the employment ladder, pushing some out of the labor force entirely. Due to the lack of Social Security numbers, it’s likely that undocumented immigrants are undercounted in these figures, meaning the actual percentage of foreign-born workers is even higher.
- And under current unemployment calculations, working even one hour per week counts as “employed.” So if an American loses a good construction job to an illegal and ends up working part-time at McDonald’s, it doesn’t change the unemployment rate.

Trump Says Trade Deal With Canada ‘Achievable’ Within Days Or Weeks
- U.S. President Donald Trump signalled a trade deal with Canada could be reached in the coming days or weeks, provided both sides find common ground.
- Trump made the comments when speaking to reporters after a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney on the morning of June 16.
- Trump said trade with Canada would be among the key topics discussed at the summit. “I think we are going to accomplish a lot,” Trump said. “I think our primary focus will be trade, and trade with Canada, and I’m sure we can work something out.”
- When asked if a potential deal could be reached within days or weeks, Trump said “it’s achievable,” while noting that “both parties have to agree.” Asked what is preventing the two nations from reaching a deal, the president pointed to the “different concepts” he and Carney hold.
- “I have a tariff concept; Mark has a different concept, which is something that some people like, but we are going to see if we can get to the bottom of it today,” Trump said.

TV Networks Face Advertising Apocalypse After Trump Admin Mulls Pharma Restrictions
- Last week independent Senators Bernie Sanders (VT) and Angus King (ME) introduced legislation that would ban pharmaceutical companies from promoting prescription drugs directly to consumers – including through television, radio, print, digital platforms, and social media.
- Today, Bloomberg reports that the Trump administration is now ‘discussing policies that would make it harder and more expensive for pharmaceutical companies to advertise directly to patients.’
Although the US is the only place, besides New Zealand, where pharma companies can directly advertise, banning pharma ads outright could make the administration vulnerable to lawsuits, so it’s instead focusing on cutting down on the practice by adding legal and financial hurdles, according to people familiar with the plans who weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
- The result has been a media environment saturated with pharmaceutical messaging. Drug ads made up 24.4 percent of all advertising minutes on evening news broadcasts across major networks — including ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and NBC — through May of this year, according iSpot. On CBS Evening News, pharmaceutical companies appeared in more than 70 percent of commercial breaks, per Kantar Media.

- The new executive order calls for a sweeping “Reparations Task Force” to develop a plan focused on redressing historical wrongs allegedly tied to slavery and Jim Crow laws—neither of which existed in the state of Illinois. The end goal? Handouts based entirely on race.

- The resolution reaffirms existing law, directing the president to end any use of the U.S. armed forces “for hostilities” against Iran “unless explicitly authorized by a declaration of war or specific authorization for use of military force against Iran.”

Trump is going to strike Iran, the only instance is if the [DS] with Iran hits one of our ship, planes etc… That is then an attack on the US
-
Iraq (1993, 1996, 1998):
-
1993: Clinton ordered missile strikes on Iraqi intelligence headquarters in Baghdad, citing a foiled assassination plot against former President George H.W. Bush. The strikes were based on executive authority, with no congressional vote.
-
1996: Airstrikes targeted Iraqi air defenses in response to Saddam Hussein’s attacks on Kurdish factions in northern Iraq, violating UN agreements. Clinton acted under existing UN resolutions and executive powers, not new congressional approval.
-
Operation Desert Fox (1998): A four-day bombing campaign aimed to degrade Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction capabilities. Clinton justified it using the 1991 Gulf War AUMF and UN resolutions, but Congress did not vote specifically on this action. Some lawmakers criticized the timing, as it coincided with Clinton’s impeachment proceedings.
-
-
Bosnia (1994-1995):
-
Clinton authorized U.S. participation in NATO airstrikes (Operation Deliberate Force) to protect UN safe zones and pressure Bosnian Serb forces during the Yugoslav Wars. He relied on NATO commitments and executive authority, notifying Congress under the War Powers Resolution but not seeking a vote. The U.S. had not been attacked, and no U.S. soldiers were directly targeted by Bosnian forces prior.
-
-
Kosovo (1999):
-
Clinton led NATO’s 78-day bombing campaign (Operation Allied Force) against Serbia to stop ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. He argued it was a humanitarian necessity and cited NATO obligations. Congress debated but failed to pass a clear authorization or rejection; a House resolution supporting the air campaign was non-binding and tied 213-213. Serbia had not attacked the U.S. or its forces, though Serbian forces were committing atrocities against Kosovar Albanians.
-
-
Sudan and Afghanistan (1998):
-
Clinton ordered cruise missile strikes on al-Qaeda targets in Afghanistan and a pharmaceutical factory in Sudan (suspected of chemical weapons production) after the U.S. embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. He invoked executive authority and the 1973 War Powers Resolution, claiming self-defense against imminent terrorist threats. Congress was informed but did not vote. Al-Qaeda, not the Sudanese or Afghan governments, had attacked U.S. embassies, though the Sudan strike’s justification (the factory’s role) remains controversial.
-
-
Somalia (1993):
-
While not a traditional “strike,” Clinton expanded U.S. military operations in Somalia (beyond the initial humanitarian mission) to combat warlord Mohamed Far…
-
-
Libya (2011): Obama launched airstrikes as part of a NATO-led intervention against Muammar Gaddafi’s regime. He relied on UN Security Council Resolution 1973 and claimed the War Powers Resolution of 1973 allowed him to act without Congress’s approval, as the operation didn’t involve “sustained hostilities.” Critics, including some lawmakers, argued this violated the Constitution, which grants Congress the power to declare war.
-
Syria (2014-2015): Obama ordered airstrikes against ISIS targets in Syria without congressional authorization. He cited the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), passed after 9/11 to target al-Qaeda, as legal justification. Many in Congress and legal scholars questioned whether the AUMF applied to ISIS, a distinct group.
-
Yemen and Somalia: Obama expanded drone strikes against al-Qaeda affiliates (e.g., al-Shabaab in Somalia, AQAP in Yemen) without specific congressional approval, again leaning on the 2001 AUMF. These actions were less publicized but drew criticism for their lack of transparency and legislative oversight.
