First of all, thank you for explaining that warrants, even if corrupt, are required. I agree. I also agree that the process was not followed in a legal way and therefore needs to be corrected.
But, I again want to say that the public believes that NSA is spying on them. But, that is not true. It is the FBI and CIA who are spying on the country. They are using SIGINT tools and processes and giving the impression that it is NSA. However, I will say again, NSA is military intelligence, in fact it is the most important part of military intelligence. When was the last time NSA’s leadership was called to the hill? They know it is not NSA.
I know I could cause much trouble for myself, but I will say I sat in the room at CIA, as an IC/NSA leader, when these programs were introduced. I questioned the legality of the program and was told I was no longer welcome. I was then gently forced into retirement for asking that question. It was CIA, not NSA who objected. I was representing a large portion of NSA at the time. NSA is not configured to do what you say. It is ran by a 4 star general. It answers to the constitution.
