Global Economic Surprise Plummets As Eurozone Enters Recession
- The disastrous performance of the euro area, which fell into recession in the first quarter, is also happening while this economic region enjoys significant tailwinds:
- The spectacular failure of these enormous stimulus plans is almost never analyzed in academic papers because it seems that some academics have decided to avoid any study that mildly questions governments and their bloated spending. Stimulus plans fail, and all we seem to hear when the recovery is weak is that the problem is the normalization of rates, not the inexistent multiplier effect of these giant government plans that leave an unsustainable trail of higher debt and, now, inflation.
- Social programs have also failed. The latest Eurostat figures show that in 2022, 95.3 million people in the EU will be at risk of poverty or social exclusion, equivalent to 21.6% of the EU population. In 2018, it was 109.2 million people, or 21.7% of the population. This is an almost insignificant improvement considering the enormous social spending, more than two trillion euros of stimulus, and the increase in population. Resorting to the old “it could have been worse” argument makes no sense. There is plenty of evidence of better uses of public money all over the world.

Global Central Banks Are Badly Losing Their War Against Food Inflation
- Even though central banks all over the world have been raising interest rates in recent months, food prices just continue to go up. There are a couple of reasons why this is happening. First of all, demand for food is very inelastic. In other words, no matter how high or how low prices go, people are still going to need to eat. So even if the Federal Reserve sent interest rates into the stratosphere, people would still need to go the supermarket to get food for themselves and their families. Secondly, we are facing some severe long-term supply problems.
- But even though higher interest rates haven’t had much of an impact on food prices, we knew that they would dramatically affect western economies in many other ways. Economic activity is starting to dry up all over the western world, and as I discussed the other day, Europe has already plunged into a recession.
In addition, higher interest rates have burst the global housing bubble, and here in the United States we have entered what will ultimately become the greatest commercial real estate crisis in our entire history.
On top of everything else, hundreds of small and mid-size banks are now struggling to survive because higher rates have blown giant black holes in their balance sheets.
After seeing all the damage that they have caused, officials at the Federal Reserve finally decided to “pause” their interest rate hiking campaign on Wednesday…
If food inflation was still calculated the way that it was back in 1980, those numbers would be way into the double digits.
And even with all of the massaging that they do to the numbers these days, there are certain categories of food where the official numbers that we have been given actually show double digit inflation on a yearly basis…

- A survey by investment firm Jefferies Group found that 65% of beer distributors expect the Bud Light boycott to continue for six more months and another 32% think it could be permanent, according to Brewbound, a beer industry publication. - This has finally forced Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth to speak to the customers.
Now, Whitworth is directly addressing the customers in a new statement.
In a post titled “Anheuser-Busch Announces Support For Frontline Employees And Wholesaler Partners,” Whitworth said, “We recognize that over the last two months, the discussion surrounding our company and Bud Light has moved away from beer, and this has impacted our consumers, our business partners, and our employees.”

NARA was looking for these along with other documents pertaining to President Trump engaging in discussions with other foreign leaders, and NARA was angry about the perceived lack of respect shown by Trump toward their endeavor.

SINGAPORE – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is spending his second night in Singapore on a mini tour that includes some of the Republic’s best-known sights such as Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) integrated resorts.
At around 9.10pm on Monday (June 11), his motorcade was seen leaving the St Regis Hotel in the Tanglin area where his delegation is being housed at, before driving past the Raffles City area towards Marina Bay.
Mr Kim, who arrived in Singapore on Sunday ahead of his historic summit with United States President Donald Trump in Sentosa on Tuesday, stopped by Gardens by the Bay first and is expected to also visit the MBS SkyPark or the nearby Merlion Park.
At around 8pm, the observation deck of the 57th-storey sky park at the MBS, which offers panoramic views of Marina Bay and the central business district, was closed off to the public, ahead of its usual 10pm timing.
MBS staff were seen polishing fingerprints off the glass panels of the observation deck. The Straits Times also saw a heavy security presence comprising MBS personnel and police officers.
Mr Kim, who is North Korea’s Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, may also visit other sights such as the Esplanade performing arts centre.
The mini-city tour will cap a rather quiet public schedule for Mr Kim on Monday, compared to his officials and Mr Trump.
Apart from a meeting with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana on Sunday evening, Mr Kim has not been seen stepping out of the St Regis hotel in Orchard Road where he and his delegation are being housed at.
In contrast, Mr Kim’s officials were seen earlier on Monday meeting with Singapore and American officials – making courtesy calls or engaging in last-minute talks over the one-day summit.
Mr Trump met PM Lee and also members of the American community in Singapore.

Judge Cannon Orders Trump Lawyers to Obtain Security Clearances
- Judge Aileen Cannon ordered Trump’s attorneys and attorneys for Walt Nauta, the alleged co-conspirator charged along with Trump, to obtain security clearances.
- It is standard procedure for lawyers to obtain security clearances in cases involving classified documents.
- Politico reported:
Cannon ordered the attorneys to file a “notice of compliance” by June 20, a relatively rapid pace. Both Trump and Nauta are looking to fill out their legal teams in the coming days. 55% Of The Public View The Trump Indictment As “Politically Motivated”; Harvard Poll Finds
- A Harvard/Harris poll is bad news for Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Justice Department. The poll shows that 55% of Americans believe Trump’s indictment is politically motivated and 56% believe that it constitutes election interference.
- The view of the case appears to be worsening. Now there is less than a majority viewing the indictment as well-founded and justified. The poll shows that 83% of Republicans and 55% of Independents view the indictment as a political exercise. Not only do 56 percent view it as election interference but only 44 percent see it as “the fair application of the law”:
- The poll is also bad news for Biden. Some 65 percent believe Biden “mishandled” classified material while 72 percent take that view with Clinton’s email scandal.

- Sec. 2. Status of Detention Facilities at U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay. (a) Section 3 of Executive Order 13492 of January 22, 2009 (Review and Disposition of Individuals Detained at the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base and Closure of Detention Facilities), ordering the closure of detention facilities at U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay, is hereby revoked.
- (b) Detention operations at U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay shall continue to be conducted consistent with all applicable United States and international law, including the Detainee Treatment Act of 2005.
- (c) In addition, the United States may transport additional detainees to U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay when lawful and necessary to protect the Nation.
- (d) Within 90 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of Defense shall, in consultation with the Secretary of State, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Director of National Intelligence, and the heads of any other appropriate executive departments and agencies as determined by the Secretary of Defense, recommend policies to the President regarding the disposition of individuals captured in connection with an armed conflict, including policies governing transfer of individuals to U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay. (e) Unless charged in or subject to a judgment of conviction by a military commission, any detainees transferred to U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay after the date of this order shall be subject to the procedures for periodic review established in Executive Order 13567 of March 7, 2011 (Periodic Review of Individuals Detained at Guantánamo Bay Naval Station Pursuant to the Authorization for Use of Military Force), to determine whether continued law of war detention is necessary to protect against a significant threat to the security of the United States.
- Sec. 3. Rules of Construction. (a) Nothing in this order shall prevent the Secretary of Defense from transferring any individual away from the U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay when appropriate, including to effectuate an order affecting the disposition of that individual issued by a court or competent tribunal of the United States having lawful jurisdiction.
- (b) Nothing in this order shall be construed to affect existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful permanent residents of the United States, or any persons who are captured or arrested in the United States.
- (c) Nothing in this order shall prevent the Attorney General from, as appropriate, investigating, detaining, and prosecuting a terrorist subject to the criminal laws and jurisdiction of the United States.
- Sec. 4. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:
