- Sandweg shares the classified visa information with Hunter’s firm which is not a government agency.
- Hunter’s firm shares the classified information that he never should have had with Burisma, a foreign company – this is espionage.

Hi Dave. In respect of eating bugs here in the UK, I wrote to the Foods Standards Agency, and deeply alarmed when I received its reply. Please see what follows.
Thank you for your email. Colleagues recently provided the following advice in relation to edible insects.
With the exception of certain insects covered by the retained transitional measures, from 1 January 2021, only edible insects authorised by GB Regulators can be placed on the market in Great Britain. Businesses need to apply for novel food authorisation to GB authorities (the FSA or FSS) by 31 December 2023 so the product can remain on the market while the application is assessed.
If you wish to sell an insect for human consumption which is not covered by the transitional measures, you will only be able to do so once it has been authorised as a novel food. Going forward, edible insect products will ultimately need to pass through the full authorisation process in GB to remain on the market permanently. The authorisation process is open and we encourage the industry to make applications.
Edible insects that were marketed in the EU or UK before 1 January 2018 and were the subject of an application to the EU for authorisation as a novel food by 1 January 2019, it is the FSA’s understanding that these include:
lesser mealworm (Alphitobius diaparinus larvae)
house cricket (Acheta domesticus)
yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor)
banded or decorated cricket (Gyllodes sigallatus)
bird grasshopper / desert locust (Schistocerca gregaria)
migratory locust (Locusta migratoria)
black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens).
Insects which meet the EU criteria above can continue to be marketed between now and 31 December 2023.
From 1 January 2024, only those insects which met the EU criteria and are also the subject of an application to the GB authorities (FSA or FSS) submitted by 31 December 2023 can continue to be placed on the market until the application is determined. Insect products covered by the retained transitional measures will still need to be authorised in GB but can remain on the market while the application to GB Regulators is assessed. Businesses need to apply for novel food authorisation to GB Regulators (the FSA or FSS) by 31 December 2023.
In regard to the recent consultation, The Food Standards Agency (FSA) was seeking stakeholder comments on an amendment to retained European Union (EU) legislation that provides for a transitional period under the novel food regulations for edible insects to remain on the market. This amendment is The Food and Feed (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2022 (legislation.gov.uk)
