BREAKING: White House Economic Advisor Hassett says data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics has become “very unreliable.”
— The Kobeissi Letter (@KobeissiLetter) August 4, 2025
- Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) said President Donald Trump’s decision to fire Erika McEntarfer, the commissioner of labor statistics, was an attempt to weaponize the agency.

BLS had big problems with data manipulation, 2024 internal report shows
- Now writer Don Surber has discovered a doozy of a BLS internal report from 2024, reported by Bloomberg News, that the agency has been mismanaging data up the wazoo.
According to Bloomberg:
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics is “not sufficiently focused” on how it disseminates key economic data and a revamp of the agency’s culture is required, according to a report commissioned after a series of botched releases.
The Labor Department, which oversees the BLS, ordered the independent review to examine “procedures and practices for the equitable and timely provision of data to the public.” The findings of the 60-day external review were published Tuesday and included a number of recommendations to improve processes and communications.
“We have already begun the work of turning the team’s recommendations into a roadmap to recommit our agency to data security and equitable access to data,” BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfer said on a call Tuesday.
Well, she didn’t.
- This corresponds pretty well to the problems President Trump cited on the day he gave her the boot:
- Note that he didn’t object to the data itself, as Summers and his buddies claimed; he objected to the constant revisions of the data, big, unprecedented revisions, released at politically sensitive times, always good for the Democrats and always bad for the Republicans, pretty well nullifying the purpose of collecting data at all.
- She also said she’d have the problems under control — and she didn’t, so out she went.
- The Bloomberg report is more disturbing than just major revisions of data that Trump cited.
- Deep in the Bloomberg story, there are doings like this:
-
The report was commissioned after several incidents around data releases raised questions about how some of the world’s most sensitive economic information gets disseminated. In August, the BLS provided at least three Wall Street firms with highly anticipated figures on revisions to US payrolls — all while the official release was delayed on its website.
The episode not only sparked outrage among investors but also on Capitol Hill, where key Senate Republicans charged the BLS with its “continued failures” in producing crucial economic data and demanded answers to questions around its data release protocols.
Other incidents earlier in the year raised similar concerns. In May, the BLS inadvertently published inflation data a half hour before the scheduled release time, and separately a BLS economist disclosed internal data to an exclusive group of analysts he described as “super users.”
- BLS claimed innocent human error (you know a glitch) around these releases of data to insiders first instead of everyone, but nobody believes that. Billions of dollars of trades are on the line and equal access to data is ingrained in every player, government and traders alike, ever since the dawn of Wall Street. Any uneven release of data is inside trading, and release of data to privileged cronies over others is politicization of data.
- Which is where Trump had the problem. The woman promised to reform her data mishandling, which stretches way back, and she went right back to business as usual, manipulating the data for political purposes in a variety of ways.
- Economics powerhouse Alan Reynolds found these problems, too:
Aside from notoriously lagged and mismeasured rent and BLS made-up figures for "Owners' Equivalent Rent," inflation was generally negligible or negative since July 2022 even as habitual Fed hawks and vultures (such as Larry Summers) kept warning repeatedly that it was about to… https://t.co/JYmKdmVlk2 pic.twitter.com/JyJXUOuUyz

come roaring back.

- President Donald Trump remains open to a potential rebate for middle-income and low-income earners, thanks to the vast sums of money coming into the Treasury through his tariff policies.
- During a gaggle before Trump boarded Air Force One en route to Joint Base Andrews, Breitbart News asked about the possibility of a rebate to Americans, emphasizing that the Treasury took in $29.6 billion in July
- Trump first emphasized that paying down the national debt is a top priority, but was open to tariff-funded dividends for the American people.
- “Well, we’re going to pay down debt. We have a lot of money coming in, much more money than the country’s ever seen, by hundreds of billions of dollars. And there could be a distribution or dividend to the people of our country,” he said.

- “I would say, for people that would be middle-income people and lower-income people, we could do a dividend, but one of the things we’re going to be doing is reducing debt,” he added. “We have hundreds of billions of dollars pouring into our country now. We should have done this many years ago.”

Smithsonian Axes Exhibit On Trump’s Impeachments As NPR Backer Goes Belly-Up
- Facing sharp scrutny from the Trump administration over perceived left-wing bias, the Smithsonian Institution said Friday that it had temporarily removed a display on President Donald Trump’s two politically motivated impeachments.
- The ultimate fate of the display remained uncertain for the foreseeable future, although a Smithsonian spokesperson maintained that the National Museum for American History’s exhibit on the American presidency eventually “will include all impeachments,” the Associated Press reported.
- Smithsonian spokesman Phillip Zimmerman said the decision to restore the exhibit to its previous 2008 state stemmed from a need to update some of the details following a review in July of the museum’s “legacy content.”
- The temporary installation on Trump that was added in September 2021 “was intended to be a short-term measure to address current events at the time,” he said.

CONSERVATIVES RULE: GB News Overtakes the BBC and Becomes UK’s Most Watched News Channel
- In the UK as in the US, conservative news outlets vastly outperform channels parroting leftist-globalist narratives.
- It’s been reported that GB News has for the first time overtaken the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to become the most watched TV news channel in the United Kingdom.
- Daily Mail reported:
- “New figures show that GB News beat both the Beeb [BBC] and Sky News in terms of viewing figures during key slots in July.
- It marks the first time BBC News has been overtaken by GB News for an entire month and comes just after the start-up broadcaster celebrated its fourth birthday.”
- “The figures have come from the television industry’s BARB ratings, which track total share and average views. They show that GB News pulled in an average audience of 80,600 across each day in July. This compares to BBC News which had 78,700 viewers in the same month and Sky News with 67,000.”

England in the early stages of mass revolt.
Keir Starmer and the Labour government are pushing the United Kingdom into a dark and dangerous place, a place where the social contract between the people and the politicians who are supposed to represent them is rapidly breaking down.
On the whole, the protests have been organic and spontaneous, emerging among the people from the bottom-up, not orchestrated top-down by hardened extremists.
While certain newspapers are working overtime to try and portray the unrest as the work of “the far-right”, which in the UK remains fringe and amateurish, anybody who has actually been on the ground will immediately observe a very different reality. It is hard, for example, to call a gathering of mainly women and girls wearing pink and performing a cheerful conga outside a hotel for asylum-seekers “right-wing extremism”.

- the Hamas-run Health Ministry, and more broadly, from any governing branch under Hamas’ control. Beyond the examples raised by other people in this thread, one crucial and often-overlooked point undermines the credibility of Hamas’ casualty figures: the absence of a significant number of martyrdom notices of fallen members.
- In previous conflicts between Israel and Palestinian factions, groups like Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) publicly honored their dead fighters. Martyrdom notices were standard, quick to be published, both as a cultural and ideological tool.
- They were issued to glorify the fallen and reaffirm the narrative of so-called resistance. But in this war, that practice has largely disappeared. Hamas has published martyrdom notices for top members like Yahya Sinwar, Muhammad Deif, Marwan Issa, and some senior commanders.
- Yes, some obituaries have surfaced online on affiliated Telegram channels or from family members on Facebook, but these are unofficial. Hamas and PIJ have not released formal notices like it has in past wars. Why the sudden silence? The most plausible explanation is this: Hamas and PIJ have suffered devastating losses, possibly between 20-30 thousand fighters. That’s far higher than in any previous round of fighting.
- Publicly acknowledging this would expose the extent of their military losses and undermine the narrative they’re aggressively pushing, that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. It’s important to understand that the Health Ministry does not distinguish between combatants and non-combatants.
- It simply reports aggregate deaths. The current Ministry of Health’s claim stands at around 60,000 fatalities. If a little more than a third of those are fighters, it may alter the international perception of the war. For example, if 25,000 fighters belonging to armed factions have been killed and the TOTAL number of Palestinian deaths is overestimated by 10%, the number of genuine civilian fatalities drops to around 29,000.
- That’s still tragic, but it challenges the narrative of indiscriminate slaughter and genocide that Hamas is promoting. Will we ever know the true number of combatants killed? It will be difficult to know while Hamas/PIJ are in control of the data.
- These are not transparent actors; they are terrorist organizations fighting for survival, and I suspect they are manipulating casualty figures as a tool of information warfare. I could elaborate further, but I hope this provides an argument as towhy the Ministry of Health’s statistics, including Hamas’s silence about its fighters who have been killed, should be treated with heavy skepticism.
Joe, that’s actually not 100% correct. In past conflicts, Hamas specifically instructed Gazans on social media not to publicize the combatant status of the dead (see screenshot from report by Andrew Fox). This wasn’t always followed, but that was Hamas’ policy. The more important thing is that in those wars the Hamas Ministry of Health inflated the number of women and children killed, and omitted from its list a large number of combatants (i.e. fighting-age males). E.g., in the 2014 war, the Hamas Ministry of Health claimed 39% of deaths were women and children, which was found to be inflated. Meanwhile, they omitted the deaths of a large number of terrorists from their list. In the 2008-09 war, the discrepancies were even larger. Not only did the ‘Ministry of Health’ even more significantly inflate the proportion of women and children killed, but they absurdly claimed that only 49 deaths were combatants, vs. the 709 identified by Israel (Hamas even later admitted 600-700 combatants were killed).

RFK Jr. Announces Repeal Of Policy That Rewarded Hospitals For Reporting Staff Vaccination Rates

Former FBI Director Wray Hit With Criminal Referral for Lying To Congress
- Former FBI Director Christopher Wray is now facing a criminal referral to the Department of Justice, thanks to a new filing from the Oversight Project—a D.C.-based watchdog group. The group is accusing Wray of lying to Congress and obstructing not one, but two investigations into explosive FBI misconduct.
- At the heart of the allegations: the FBI’s role in crafting a now-infamous memo that targeted Catholic Americans as potential domestic threats, and the agency’s apparent efforts to bury an investigation into a Chinese mail-in ballot scheme. These aren’t minor missteps—they’re serious accusations that strike at the core of the bureau’s credibility.

- Even more disturbing for Democrats is that it’s not just Republicans who are concerned. - Texas Democrats have become famous, or infamous, depending on who you talk to, for cutting and running to try and stop Republican state lawmakers from passing legislation they don’t like, and history has repeated itself in 2025.
- Democrats there fled into the arms of Illinois Gov. and prospective 2028 presidential candidate JB Pritzker (D) on Sunday after Republicans unveiled a new Congressional map that some have called a “bloodbath” for Democrats headed into the 2026 midterms if enacted.
- “We’re not walking out on our responsibilities; we’re walking out on a rigged system that refuses to listen to the people we represent. As of today, this corrupt special session is over,” Texas House Democratic Caucus Chair Gene Wu proclaimed in a statement.
- Already, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is laying the smack down on those who fled amid the special session, noting that consequences could soon be coming, including arrests on abandonment grounds and possibly appointing others to fill the vacancies created thanks to Democrats deliberately walking off the job.
- Though infuriating on one hand, on the other, you have to laugh at this stage in the game. I mean, as we pointed out, going to Illinois, which is home to one of the most corrupt and blatantly rigged Democrat political machines in the country, is not exactly the brightest idea these folks have had.
- But to make matters worse for them, some of the Texas Democrats went to another blue state that is well-known for gerrymandering:
Texas Democrats who left their state met with Gov. Kathy Hochul in Albany after a standoff over redrawn U.S. House maps sought by President Donald Trump.

“We won’t sit on the sidelines while Republicans try to rig the system to give Donald Trump more unchecked power,” Hochul said in a statement. “Texas Democrats are standing up for the future of our democracy, and I’m proud to stand with them in the fight against disenfranchisement.”
Right. Because if there is a state in this country that stands up for “our democracy” and voters, it’s New York, where they’ve worked to contain Republican representation to a very bare minimum even after getting slapped down:
