October Layoffs Surge Most Since 2003 Amid Cost-Cutting, AI Adoption, Challenger Data Shows

  •  companies slashing 153,000 jobs, nearly triple last year’s total and the highest for that month since 2003, according to a new report from outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.
  • Technology and warehousing jobs led the layoffs, mostly because companies are slashing folks who were hired during the pandemic-era overhiring period.
  •  “This is the highest total for October in over 20 years, and the highest total for a single month in the fourth quarter since 2008. Like in 2003, a disruptive technology is changing the landscape.”

Which industries cut the most in October?

  • Technology: 33,281 cuts in October (up from 5,639 in September); 141,159 YTD (+17% y/y).
  • Warehousing: 47,878 cuts (up from 984); 90,418 YTD (+378% y/y) — signaling automation and excess capacity post-pandemic.
  •

Reasons for the cuts:

  • DOGE Impact” remains the leading reason for job cut announcements in 2025, cited in 293,753 planned layoffs so far this year. This includes direct reductions to the Federal workforce and its contractors. An additional 20,976 cuts have been attributed to DOGE Downstream Impact, which reflects the loss of federal funding to private and non-profit entities.
  • In October alone, Cost-Cutting was the top reason employers cited for job reductions, responsible for 50,437 announced layoffs. Artificial Intelligence (AI) was the second-most cited factor, leading to 31,039 job cuts as companies continue to restructure and automate. AI has been cited for 48,414 job cuts this year.

matter what. The answer is, these judges are going to side with Donald Trump.”

**Section 232** refers to a provision in the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (specifically, 19 U.S.C. § 1862), which grants the U.S. President broad authority to impose tariffs, quotas, or other trade restrictions on imports deemed a threat to national security.

It empowers the President to act unilaterally if imports could impair U.S. national security, such as by weakening domestic industries critical to defense (e.g., steel or aluminum production). –

The Department of Commerce conducts an investigation (typically 270 days) to assess the impact of imports. If a threat is found, the President has 90 days to decide on remedies, which could include tariffs or negotiations with trading partners. –

Notably invoked during the Trump administration in 2018 for 25% tariffs on steel and 10% on aluminum imports from various countries, citing national security risks to U.S. manufacturing. Similar actions have occurred under other presidents, though less frequently. In the context of your quote, Section 232 underscores the expansive executive powers on trade policy—often bypassing Congress or courts—allowing a president like Trump to pursue tariffs even amid legal challenges, as it’s framed as a national security tool rather than pure economic policy.

negotiations before the other side adjusts. If the courts take that away, the U.S. loses some of that unpredictability and in geopolitics, predictability can be weakness. It also creates confusion at home. Businesses that moved supply chains, invested in domestic production, or hedged around those tariffs suddenly face uncertainty again. That kind of policy whiplash slows capital formation and risks undoing some of the strategic reshoring that’s been building. Now, imagine Congress itself were compromised even subtly by foreign influence.

That’s not a partisan issue; it’s a national security nightmare. Congress controls trade law, budgets, and oversight of the defense and intelligence communities. If foreign money or pressure were shaping votes on tariffs, sanctions, or defense spending, you’re talking about an invisible form of capture, rewriting the rules of U.S. power from the inside out. It’s not dramatic like a missile test, but strategically, it’s worse. You’d have an adversary quietly guiding your levers of economic deterrence while you think you’re still holding them.

If the courts say the president can’t use IEEPA to impose tariffs, there are still lawful ways to force the issue. He could invoke Section 232, which allows trade measures on national security grounds, it’s been upheld repeatedly in court. He could also use Section 301 to target unfair practices, as long as it’s procedurally sound. Or he could use Section 122 to impose short term tariffs and push Congress to extend them, effectively cornering them into acting.

Beyond tariffs, he can lean on export controls, CFIUS reviews, and the Defense Production Act to tighten pressure through other channels. The point is legality doesn’t mean impotence, it just shifts the battlefield from executive speed to legislative confrontation. So if those tariffs fall, the fight doesn’t end. It just moves from the courtroom to the chessboard and how the president plays that next move will tell you whether this is about trade policy or about who really controls America’s strategic instruments.

impose tariffs by the end of this year for something?

New York City Council Member Wants Almost $200 Million to Defend Illegal Immigrants From ICE (VIDEO)

  •  to triple the city’s immigration defense budget. “What we witnessed in Los Angeles, Chicago, and elsewhere this year is nothing less than a full scale assault on democracy.” “Federal troops sent onto city streets to serve Donald Trump’s fascist agenda and terrorize our immigrant siblings.” “They’re looking for any pretext, any opportunity to invade our streets under the banner of ‘security.’” Officials from the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) then cited Vera Institute of Justice data showing it would cost $188.5 million to “provide services to every immigrant New Yorker,” broken down as $145 million for free legal counsel and $43.5 million for other immigration services. In June, the city doubled this budget to about $120 million, and now MOIA wants multi-year contracts and even more money—with Cabán urging that these networks operate “with the broadest, lowest barrier access to dollars as soon as possible.” Taxpayers are being forced to bankroll activist lawyers who block deportations and build a permanent sanctuary machine in New York City.

Trump Admin Blasted for CFPB Security Breach – Which Also Happened Under Biden
  • There has been a major security breach at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and some are blaming the Trump administration for this, pointing out the cancellation of IT security contracts. Yes, that’s concerning. Any data breach at any organization that has to do with people’s financial information is concerning. But there are a couple of things that the CFPB and its supporters, including the notorious Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), whose brainchild the CFPB was, aren’t mentioning.

President Donald Trump’s clampdown on the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau earlier this year has compounded IT security lapses at the agency through the cancellation of contracts, according to an audit report released on Monday.

The information security program at CFPB — which maintains sensitive and confidential data from investigations, the oversight of companies and complaints received from members of the public — is “not effective,” according to the Office of Inspector General, which also covers the Federal Reserve.

  • Note that there isn’t any particular indication as to how these security breaches happened, but there was also a pretty significant breach some time earlier, in 2023, in which people’s personal information might have been released. Remember, this was during the Biden administration.

  •  .
  • This is an agency that shouldn’t exist. There is no constitutional authorization for this function, which a plain reading of the 10th Amendment would indicate that it shouldn’t exist. In fact, it would indicate that its existence is unconstitutional, although in that sense, you can add it to a long, long list of the things that the federal government does. We got along very well without it before 2011. We could get along just as well without it after 2025. The CFPB has been plagued with trouble from its outset, from the aforementioned data breach (a screw-up on the part of an employee) to harassment and discrimination scandals.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is an independent U.S. federal agency established in 2010 under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act to safeguard consumers in the financial marketplace.MissionThe CFPB’s core mission is to make consumer financial markets work fairly for consumers, responsible providers, and the broader economy. It focuses on protecting people from unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts and practices by financial companies, while empowering individuals with the information, tools, and steps needed to make informed financial decisions. In an ideal market, prices, risks, and terms are transparent upfront, enabling consumers to shop and compare options effectively, and companies compete on quality and service under uniform rules.

Under the new program “Ready”, the government plans to train around 400,000 people over the next year, Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced. “We are living in the most dangerous times since World War II. There’s a war raging beyond our border, acts of sabotage in the Baltic Sea, and battles in cyberspace,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

Trump shares what Putin allegedly told him about Ukraine

  • US President Donald Trump has claimed that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, told him that Moscow has been trying to find a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict for over a decade, and that Washington is more than welcome to compel Kiev to accept a negotiated solution.
  • Putin and Trump discussed Ukraine during a lengthy phone call last month, as well as the possibility of another in-person meeting in the near future.
  • President Putin, I spoke to him two weeks ago, and he said… ‘We’ve been trying to settle that war for ten years. We weren’t able to do it, you got to settle,’” Trump told the audience at the America Business Forum in Miami on Wednesday.
  • “I got some of these things settled in an hour,” the US president added, referring to various international conflicts he claims to have resolved since taking office in January.
  • Reportedly caught off guard by the call, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky visited the White House the following day in an attempt to secure a supply of US-made Tomahawk missiles to expand Kiev’s long-range strike capabilities against Russia.

President Trump’s Plan

Trump now has unlimited talking points and can draw more of the middle towards MAGA during the midterms. Now Trump can run on the Dems going full-blown Communist, which is a very easy sell. And what price do we Trump supporters have to pay for this? Absolutely nothing. Unless you live in NYC, it doesn’t affect your life at all. He is just a mayor of a city all of us avoid anyways. Trump is still POTUS and holds all the cards. Mamdani supplies us with significant political ammunition, at minimal to zero cost.

Marco Rubio says US working to designate Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization

  •
  • Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Tuesday that the United States is actively working to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. In an interview with Sid Rosenberg on Sid and Friends in the Morning, Rubio was asked about the support New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is receiving from groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood. Rosenberg pressed Rubio on whether the administration would move to officially designate the group, and possibly the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), as terrorist entities.”Yeah, all of that is in the works,” Rubio said, noting that the Brotherhood operates in multiple branches, each requiring its own designation. He stressed that the process is lengthy and must be thorough, but confirmed that it is a priority. “We are constantly reviewing for groups to designate, for what they are: supporters of terrorists, maybe terrorists themselves. We haven’t done this in a long time, so we’ve got a lot of catch-up to do. And you’ve mentioned a couple names, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood, that are of grave concern.”

Trump has been waiting for Mamdani to win. He’s been bankrolled by the Muslim Brotherhood from the beginning. CAIR is a terrorist supporting group that is controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood.
