Macron impeachment resolution approved

  • The French parliament has made the unprecedented move after the president appointed a minority PM
  • The proposal to impeach French President Emmanuel Macron has cleared a major procedural hurdle in the parliament and will proceed to committee for consideration.
  • The New Popular Front (NPF) coalition, which won the most National Assembly seats in this summer’s legislative elections, but not enough to have a majority, announced the measure earlier this month, after Macron snubbed their candidate for prime minister, Lucie Castets.
  • More than 80 NPF lawmakers had signed the proposal, satisfying the constitutional requirement to get the backing of at least 10% of the 577-member parliament. On Monday, the NPF petition was approved in a 12-10 vote in the Bureau of the National Assembly, the parliamentary managing body.

  • The petition now heads to the Legal Committee, where it will have to be considered. The Assembly is obligated to put it on the agenda within two weeks of the committee’s conclusion, whenever that happens. Should the resolution make it to the parliament’s agenda, it would mark the first time in the history of the Fifth Republic that the National Assembly would discuss the recall of the head of state,  
  • Actually impeaching Macron would require a two-thirds vote in the National Assembly, or 385 members. All of the opposition put together has only 364 seats, however. Should it somehow be approved, the resolution would head to the Senate, where it would require 232 votes.

BREAKING: Over 1,000 Wounded, Including Hezbollah Terrorists, as Pagers They Use to Communicate Explode Across the Country 

  • Over 1,000 individuals, including Hezbollah terrorists, were wounded when the pagers they use for communication exploded across Lebanon on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
  • The incident, confirmed by security sources, is being called the “biggest security breach” the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terror network has faced since its ongoing war with Israel began.
  • The explosions  occurred at 3:45 p.m. local time. Panic spread as Hezbollah-controlled areas in southern Beirut and other parts of the country were hit with explosions that lasted for over an hour.
  • Security sources confirmed that the devices were the latest models used by Hezbollah and were thought to be critical in their communications amidst their war efforts against Israel.

Blinken is heading back to the Middle East, this time without fanfare or a visit to Israel

  •  Secretary of State Antony Blinken heads to Egypt on Tuesday for his 10th trip to the Middle East since the war in Gaza began nearly a year ago, this one aimed partly at refining a proposal to present to Israel and Hamas for a cease-fire deal and release of hostages.
  • Unlike in recent mediating missions, America’s top diplomat this time is traveling without optimistic projections from the Biden administration of an expected breakthrough in the troubled negotiations.

Americans believe public attention on details of the talks now would only hurt that effort.

  • Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall spoke about the growing threat that China poses to the Indo-Pacific region
  • “I’ve been closely watching the evolution of [China’s] military for 15 years. China is not a future threat; China is a threat today,” Kendall told a large in-person and remote audience composed predominantly of Air and Space Force personnel.
  • The secretary went on to explain that the Chinese Communist Party continues to heavily invest in capabilities, operational concepts and organizations that are specifically designed to defeat the United States and its allies’ ability to project power in the Western Pacific region, including weapons targeting U.S. land and sea assets like air bases and aircraft carriers.
  • “In addition, China continues to expand its nuclear forces and its ability to operate in cyberspace,” Kendall said. “We can expect all these trends to continue.”
  • Kendall further explained that, when traveling to the Indo-Pacific region over the past 15 years, he has seen a growing concern and, at times, alarm from other countries concerning China’s growing capabilities and intentions.
  • An example of such capabilities and intentions include China’s moving toward larger and more sophisticated exercises tailored for an invasion and blockade of Taiwan, Kendall said.
