The [CB] system is an illusion, they created the system so any move to remove jobs from Gov, or give tax breaks would show up in the data the opposite way. The illusion is being exposed. Again, I’m no expert in this field, but common sense suggests that a massive cut in federal spending would result in a decline in GDP per the rigged statistics, while in reality the economy is actually growing under a logical set of metrics. (And also growing due to throwing off the shackles of government spending, which in reality produces nothing of value.) Now one would think an actual “journalist” might seek to address these points in the article, but ABC did not.   1. Gaza hostilities will conclude within two weeks, ending conditions will encompass four Arab nations (including Egypt and the United Arab Emirates) to administer the Gaza Strip, replacing the murderous Hamas terrorist organization. The remaining Hamas leadership will face exile to other countries, while the hostages gain freedom.

Democrat-Appointed Senate Parliamentarian Just Nuked the Trump-Backed ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’

  • Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough has taken a chainsaw to the Republican reconciliation package, removing key provisions that would reduce Medicaid funding for illegal immigrants and so-called “gender-affirming care.” She further struck down attempts to defund sanctuary cities, among other GOP priorities in the bill. 
  • Those cuts were not only the ideological driving force behind reconciliation, but they were also a significant part of trying to make the budget math work regarding future deficits. MacDonough was appointed by now-deceased Democrat Harry Reid in 2012 during his time as Senate Majority Leader. That’s justifiably leading to questions about her impartiality or lack thereof.
  • Current Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) quickly came out and knocked down any notion that he might fire MacDonough, claiming that doing so would put the reconciliation package in peril.

The Senate Parliamentarian isn’t elected and isn’t answerable to the public, yet she can block legislation backed by millions of Americans. It’s time for elected officials to reclaim authority. @JDVanceshould override the Parliamentarian and ensure the people’s will, not some staffer cloaked in Senate rules, shapes the nation’s future.

The Senate Parliamentarian is a nonpartisan official who advises the U.S. Senate on its rules, procedures, and precedents. They interpret the Standing Rules of the Senate and provide guidance on parliamentary procedure, ensuring that Senate proceedings comply with established guidelines and constitutional requirements. The parliamentarian or their staff sits on the Senate dais during sessions to assist the presiding officer (typically the Vice President or a senator) with procedural matters, such as responding to inquiries, ruling on points of order, or managing the budget reconciliation process under rules like the Byrd Rule. Their role is advisory, meaning their guidance is not binding, and the presiding officer or Senate can overrule them, though this is rare. The parliamentarian also refers bills to appropriate committees and maintains the Senate’s procedural precedents.
The Senate Parliamentarian role was formalized in 1935 to address the increasing complexity of Senate procedures and the need for consistent, expert guidance on parliamentary rules. Before then, the Senate relied on its presiding officers and clerks for procedural advice, but as legislative processes grew more intricate—especially with the rise of budget-related legislation and debates over Senate precedents—ad hoc rulings led to inconsistencies and disputes.

So while the parliamentarian is highly influential and usually followed to preserve procedural norms, the Senate majority and presiding officer are not bound to their advice.

Cutting fraud, waste and abuse from a federal program is not the same thing as cutting benefits under that program.
