Hi Dave,
I want to give a comment on the unconditional basic income. I think, that under any capitalist system, this is the last chance to make people survive. Is it bad? Yes, it is. Does it make people unfree instead of free? Yes, it does. Does it make people depending on the Elite? Yes it does – and this is maybe the main reason to do introduce it.
Now, Why do I think, under the current system it is inevitable to have it? It is because machines do all the production. Machines can also check if you are worthy of getting a credit, AI replaces even white collar work. This is attractive for companies to implement as the investment pays off over the long run, giving them cost advantages over their competitors.
Two problems arise: For the people: How do I make ends meet? For the manufacturers: Who will buy my shit? Logic solution within the system: unconditional basic income.
As mentioned above, this is going against all of what mankind is and should be. This is – from the perspective of the people – an emergency sollution. From the point of view of the mighty: The solution to all of their problems. With digital money, they can easily switch people off of the system. Alternative: Is there an economic system, that does not depend on growth – as capitalism does – that offers income and freedom to people? We live in a duality of capitalism vs. socialism. I think, that the analysis of Karl Marx, that a capitalist system would finally morph into a socialist system is correct, under the assumption that the societal boundary conditions be as they are. So, socialism and capitalism are basically two sides of the same coin. That means for the people, a system morphing from capitalism into socialism brings them from the frying pan into the fire. What is the third system, that solves duality? That helps people stay free? The biggest problem with capitalism is its tendency to concentration, thus self-destroying the very foundation of capitalism. How can that be solved?
