While I agree that the name “Juneteenth” is stupid because it doesn’t actually give any acknowledgement to what is supposed to be celebrated on that day I do feel that a holiday celebrating the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and the freeing of black slaves is indeed warranted. This especially when we celebrate a day like Martin Luther King Jr. Day which is all about celebrating the life of one of the greatest civil rights leaders in American History. However, it should in my opinion be called Emancipation Day or Freedom Day to give credit to what it’s supposed to stand for. Juneteenth gives no credit to what should be upheld, it just sounds like another day. So personally, I’m all for it being a national holiday as long as it’s for celebrating something that was made for all Americans at it’s base.
