- The Biden administration is expected to ease seasonal restrictions on ethanol-gasoline blends but has delayed the change until after the 2024 election to avoid a price spike, according to Reuters.
- The rule change stems from a 2022 request from the governors of Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin to allow the sale of gasoline with 15% ethanol year-round, known as E15 gasoline, lifting current seasonal restrictions that aim to reduce smog in the summer months, according to Reuters. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had originally set an effective date of April 28, 2024, for the changes when the agency sent the proposal to the White House in December, but that is now expected to be pushed back to 2025.
- Top oil refiners, including HF Sinclair Corp. and Philips 66, have warned against the change, saying that it would complicate fuel supply logistics and increase the risk of area shortages, possibly raising prices, according to Reuters. The ethanol industry has lobbied for the changes, saying that the environmental concerns are exaggerated.
Home Depot Sales Slide For Fifth Quarter On Weak Housing Demand
- Home Depot’s sales fell for the fifth straight quarter as the country’s largest home improvement retailer felt the impacts of higher mortgage rates that have put a big freeze on the housing market.
- Fourth-quarter revenue came in at $34.79 billion, down from $35.83 in the prior-year period. The figure still beat $34.61 billion that analysts surveyed by Bloomberg expected.
- Comparable sales, a key indicator of a retailer’s health, fell 3.5%. The retailer predicted a 1% decline in comparable revenue for this year. Analysts have been expecting a rise of .2%.

- Former President Donald Trump must pay nearly half a billion dollars as a bond to New York State before he can appeal the ruling by Judge Arthur Engoron last week that he must pay $354 million in fines — over $450 million, with interest — for fraud.
- Critics have noted that Trump is the only person ever to be sued under an obscure New York fraud statute that does not require any harm be done, and that effectively criminalizes the everyday practice of real estate valuations in negotiations with banks.
- Jonathan Turley points out another astonishing fact at the New York Post: before he can appeal, Trump must pay the whole fine:
Under New York law, Trump cannot appeal this ruling without depositing the full amount, including interest, in a court account. Even for Trump, $455 million is hard to come by. Likewise, a bond would require a company to guarantee payment for a defendant who has been barred from doing business in New York and is facing the need to liquidate much of his portfolio.
Nothing succeeds like excess for judges like Engoron. By imposing this astronomical figure, he can make it difficult or impossible for a defendant to appeal, absent declaring bankruptcy or selling off assets at distress prices.
The excessive fine and its basis raise serious statutory and constitutional questions. Many of us believe it should be substantially reduced or tossed out entirely.
Engoron also refused to allow Trump to mount any defense, declaring Trump guilty via summary judgment for the state.

- FBI agents storm President Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago in August 2022 looking for incriminating documents – reportedly about the FBI and Crossfire Hurricane scandal.
- President Trump declassified a binder on January 19th, 2021.
- The now infamous binder contains hundreds of pages about the Crossfire Hurricane scandal. It contains damaging information about the corrupt actors involved in our government. Two different DOJ Attorney General’s have defied President Trump’s direct lawful order to publish the binder in the Federal Register. It’s been over three years now, and the DOJ continues to defy the presidential order and every FOIA request to make it public. Can we now raid the homes of former acting AG Monty Wilkinson, and current AG Merrick Garland?

- The DOJ had already made redactions to protect sources and methods, and returned the binder back to the White House before Trump left office. But the corrupt FBI also wanted to hide names of those involved in the scandal. So, at the last minute, the DOJ demanded the binder comply with the 1974 Privacy Act. The Act requires any “agency” that releases records to also hide personal or identifiable name information. The DOJ knew this Act didn’t apply to the White House, it was a stall tactic. The courts decided this 22 years ago that the Privacy Act was based on FOIA requests, and the White House is not an agency.
- Hours before Trump left office on January 20th, Chief of Staff Mark Meadows gave the binder back to the DOJ, along with this memo. He asked the DOJ to make any Privacy Act redactions “out of an abundance of caution”. In the memo he asks they expeditiously release the binder when finished. It’s been over three years and still the contents of the binder have not released. Just the News previously obtained the Meadows memo from the National Archives, which also denied having a copy of the declassified binder.
- The binder allegedly has intercepted transcripts made by the FBI on various Trump staff. It has the tasking orders and debriefings of Christopher Steele and Stefan Halper, the FBI’s main human sources in the Crossfire Hurricane scandal. There is a copy of the final FISA warrant approved by an intelligence court. It also contains details about Fiona Hill, who introduced Steele to the FBI, and much more. There is tremendously important information in this binder that has never seen the light of day.

- No one wanted to get up in order to avoid getting in trouble. Finally, a boy sprang up from his seat and ran to the fish, placing it back in the bowl. Ultimately, he was the only one who refused to watch the fish die.
- When the teacher returned, he told the class that this was the lesson. That the fear of getting in trouble should never stop you from doing what is right.

I am an academic trained historian (not employable beyond 20 years as an adjunct 1980-2000) because I lack the ‘correct skin coloring, and gender, as well as being a conservative Christian,’ who nevertheless would rank Trump at the top of the list especially considering the level of hatred, resistance and the brevity of his time in office. Not to ignore the achievements and characters of Washington and Lincoln: Trump did more with less than either these former presidents (different times and conditions make direct comparisons difficult). As far as Obozo and FJB; well, along with LBJ, Wilson, Truman, and FDR, they all tie for the bottom of the list for different reasons. The country would have been a better place without them.
