- Amanda Lefton, the former director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), went to work for a major offshore wind company after the agency boosted the industry and worked to limit offshore fossil fuel development on her watch.
- Lefton spearheaded the Biden administration’s effort to build out 30 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity along America’s coasts by 2030 in her capacity as the leader of BOEM, playing a key role in the administration’s all-of-government offshore wind push from February 2021 to February 2023, according to her LinkedIn profile. She then went to work on green energy-related issues for Foley Hoag LLC — a major D.C. law firm — for approximately six months and then joined RWE, a major player in the offshore wind space, as the head of development for the east coast in July 2023.

- U.S. President Donald Trump is getting his wish that interest rates drop across the world, just not at home where a strong economy and uncertainty over his own policies have set the stage for the Federal Reserve to diverge from its central bank peers.
Trump may be his own worst enemy in his fight against the Fed
- Trump has said he wants lower interest rates, but he may be standing in his own way.
- His policies, though, are an obstacle the Fed could have to navigate as it adjusts monetary policy.
- Fed Chair Jerome Powell sent a clear message this week that central bankers were in no rush to lower rates, with Fed officials opting to pause rate cuts in the first policy meeting of the year.
- That seemed to defy pressure from Trump, who said in his address to the World Economic Forum last week that he would demand interest rates be lowered “immediately.”
- He added that his policies — including plans to levy steep tariffs on imports from China, Canada, and Mexico — could help renew the US economy.
- But those plans could end up being the very obstacle the Fed has to navigate this year as it decides what to do with interest rates, and they’re likely the reason the Fed will hit pause until the picture becomes clearer, Wall Street forecasters say.
- Economists have warned that Trump’s plan to levy steep tariffs on US imports could stoke inflation, a notion that Trump has pushed back on. The president has said he would lower prices, and he implemented tariffs in his first term without a significant inflation increase.
- His tariff plan this time around, though, is far more wide-reaching, explaining why forecasters are more worried about a resurgence of inflation in his second term.
Source: businessinsider.com
- There are two distinctively different sets of tariffs scheduled to roll out in the next few days, weeks and months.
- One set of long-term tariffs called MARCRO tariffs focused on reciprocity and based primarily on economic fairness. The second and more urgent set, are focused on the immediacy of national security, border security and the demand for allies to shut down their support for fentanyl distribution.
- The Border Security tariffs of 25% against Mexico and Canada start on Saturday.

Chicago Mayor’s Office Improperly Blocked Access To Lavish ‘Gift Room’: Inspector General
- Chicago’s Inspector General dropped a bombshell report revealing that Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office improperly blocked public access to a special room within City Hall containing gifts to the city – including designer handbags, cufflinks, and a personalized Mont Blanc pen.
- A new report from Inspector General Deborah Witzburg’s office concludes that Johnson’s office violated a city ethics policy requiring that any gifts valued at more than $50 and “accepted on behalf of the city” be logged into a book that is made available to the public on the 5th floor of City Hall.
- But when two undercover investigators from the IG’s office visited the mayor’s office last June, they were denied access to the log, and instead told to file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to see it.
- Then, when the IG’s office filed a FOIA request, the mayor’s office refused to respond to it on time – only to provide an incomplete spreadsheet of the gifts more than a month after the request was filed.
- Next, the IG’s office showed up in person unannounced to see the gift log, only to be told by Johnson’s staffers that they were told by the city’s Law Department that the IG must make an appointment to access the gift room. According to the report, the city’s municipal code requires all city employees to cooperate with IG investigations, including making any records available “as soon as practicable.”

- The FBI is stalling again. The world’s top intelligence agency is still refusing to turn over the Seth Rich records to Attorney Ty Clevenger.
- Seth Rich was a DNC operative who was mysteriously murdered in the summer of 2016 weeks before Wikileaks released their Clinton email investigation. The murder is still unsolved.
- After years of denying they had anything related to Seth Rich, the FBI and DOJ were caught lying over and over again. In September 2023, a judge finally demanded the FBI and DOJ provide all they had regarding Seth Rich to Attorney Clevenger. The FBI responded requesting another 66 years before releasing the information. They wanted it moved out like the JFK assassination reports.
- Could it be that the Seth Rich computer confirms that he leaked the Hillary Clinton emails to Wikileaks as its founder Julian Assange implied?

- Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, both Democrats, are reportedly blocking ICE agents from entering prisons and jails to deport hundreds of illegal aliens in the sanctuary city of Chicago. Real America’s Voice correspondent Ben Bergquam reported that there are about 300 illegal aliens in jail with ICE detainer requests, but leftist Chicago officials will not let ICE take them to be deported.

- Miller said that Trump may also invoke the Insurrection Act to combat the cartels in line with the “national objective of eradicating their physical presence on US soil.” This law allows the President to deploy the military domestically.
Miller: the insurrection act in this context mostly applies to considerations related to the border and the cartel threat. So, we’ve already seen two shooting incidences in the last two days of suspected cartel violence against Border Patrol agents.
Tapper:
But is the insurrection act going to possibly be used to use the US military to go after undocumented immigrants in American cities and American towns? Is the door open for that?
Miller: Right now, the Insurrection Act, which is still being considered based on operational needs on the southern border until a decision has been made, is specifically in the context of countering that cartel threat. In the interior, it’s going to be about enrolling state and local law enforcement to massively increase the supply of guns and badges to conduct these immigration raids.

FCC Chair Brendan Carr Launches Investigation Into PBS, NPR As Lawmakers Decide Fate
- FCC Chairman Brendan Carr is launching an investigation into NPR and PBS he says will help lawmakers decide whether the government will continue funding the public news organizations.
- In a Wednesday letter to both outlets, Carr said the inquiry would focus on whether the news organizations’ member stations violated government rules by recognizing financial sponsors on air.
- According to Carr, NPR and PBS stations operate as noncommercial broadcast organizations, but that they may be airing announcements that ‘cross the line.”
- “I am concerned that NPR and PBS broadcasts could be violating federal law by airing commercials. In particular, it is possible that NPR and PBS member stations are broadcasting underwriting announcements that cross the line into prohibited commercial advertisements,” Carr wrote.

Marco Rubio Tells Megyn Kelly That Trump’s Greenland Bid ‘Is Not A Joke’
n
“Well, I think President Trump, what he has said publicly is he wants to buy it. He wants to pay for it. How we worked on something like that, how something like that is approached, obviously is probably done better in the appropriate forms. A lot of this stuff is done publicly, and it’s not helpful because it puts the other side in a tough spot domestically,” Rubio said. “So those conversations are going to happen. But this is not a joke. What he is saying is pretty accurate.”
“This is not about acquiring land for the purpose of acquiring land. This is in our national interest, and it needs to be solved. President Trump has put out there what he intends to do, which is to purchase it. I wasn’t privy to that phone call, but I imagine the phone call went the way a lot of these phone calls go, and that is he just speaks bluntly and frankly with people,” Rubio added. “Ultimately I think diplomacy in many cases works better when you’re straightforward as opposed to using platitudes and language that translates to nothing.”

North Korean Troops Retreat From Kursk Front Line After Heavy Losses: NYT
- Anonymous Ukrainian and US officials have told The NY Times that North Korean soldiers fighting for Russia have been pulled from the front lines in Kursk region, where Ukraine has waged a cross-border ground offensive since last August, after suffering heavy losses.
- It was widely reported that some 11,000 North Koreans were sent by Kim John Un to assist the Russian army. So far, reports suggest the foreign troops have only been deployed in southern Russian territory which is partially occupied by Ukraine forces.
- “Ukrainian troops who have fought against the North Koreans have described them as fierce warriors. But disorganization in their ranks and a lack of cohesion with Russian units have quickly driven up casualties, a Ukrainian official said,” the officials claimed to the Times.

EXCLUSIVE: Trump Bans Intel Officials Who Pushed Russian Disinfo Hoax From Federal Buildings
- President Donald Trump is taking further action against the 50 former intelligence officials who falsely suggested Hunter Biden’s laptop was “part of a Russian disinformation campaign,” instructing agencies to also ban those individuals from stepping foot in secure U.S. government facilities,
- The Jan. 29 cabinet memorandum, first obtained by The Daily Wire, expands Trump’s day-one executive order, which revoked the security clearance for the 50 individuals. Sent “on behalf of the President,” it orders the country’s top national security agencies to “revoke unescorted access to secure U.S. Government facilities from the 50 former intelligence officials named in the Executive Order.”
- “These individuals no longer possess a need to access secure facilities, and as outlined in the Executive Order, do not have the appropriate security clearances to access classified information,” the memo states.
- Included in the list of individuals are prominent members of the intelligence community, including former CIA directors John Brennan, Michael Hayden, and Leon Panetta, who also at one time served as Secretary of Defense. It also includes the former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and John Bolton, the longtime diplomat who most recently served under Trump as his national security advisor.
