A central bank meant to preserve monetary stability has drifted into credit allocation, financial repression, and de facto debt management.

His answer is to narrow the remit, shrink the balance sheet, and scrape away the layers of forward-guidance theater that turned FOMC language into a third policy instrument. The implicit logic of a smaller, quieter Fed balance sheet is more private credit creation, capital formation moves back into markets rather than remaining warehoused on a taxpayer-backed public portfolio. Warsh also rejects the old Phillips curve intuition that strong growth and tight labor markets are inherently inflationary threats. He is not anti-growth, he is anti-fiscal dominance. In his framework, inflation comes from policy error, too much monetary accommodation for too much fiscal excess, not from prosperity itself.

That is why he can be pro-AI, pro-crypto, and broadly supply-side at the same time. He sees productivity growth, technological innovation, and new forms of private capital formation as disinflationary forces when the nominal anchor is credible. Just as important, Warsh appears to grasp the constitutional arrangement. The Fed is not supposed to moonlight as an all-purpose technocratic state.

It is supposed to preserve the currency, provide monetary order, and leave the rest to elected officials and private markets. That requires price stability first, but it also requires better inputs, more modern data, more market signals, less faith in lagging aggregates and broken academic priors. This is not hawkishness. It is a bid to replace an antiquated Keynesian institution that has come to act as if it were above the constitution with a narrower, pro-growth, market-facing Fed that stabilizes money, scraps pseudo-scientific forward guidance, and gets out of the way.

New York Times reporters hit with subpoenas after reporting on Trump’s new Air Force One

  • According to the newspaper, the subpoenas require the journalists to appear before a federal grand jury in Manhattan on Wednesday.
  • The Trump administration subpoenaed multiple New York Times reporters on Friday following the news outlet’s recent reporting on security issues involving the newly commissioned Air Force One, according to the Times.
  • The aircraft, which President Donald Trump accepted as a gift from Qatar, entered service last week and has already been used for official travel.
  • According to the newspaper, the subpoenas require the journalists to appear before a federal grand jury in Manhattan on Wednesday. The Times said federal agents personally delivered some of the subpoenas to reporters at their homes.
  • Reuters was not able to independently verify the newspaper’s account, and neither the White House nor the Justice Department immediately responded to requests for comment.

The New York Times reporters published articles detailing security concerns with President Trump’s new Air Force One aircraft (a Boeing 747-8 gifted by Qatar that recently entered service). 

 According to multiple outlets, the stories (published around July 8–9, 2026) included:

  • Trump used the older Air Force One for part of a trip to a NATO summit in Turkey as a security precaution at the urging of the Secret Service.
  • The new Qatari-donated plane lacked some advanced security/defensive features of the older aircraft, such as certain antimissile capabilities or countermeasures.
  • The articles relied on anonymous sources discussing sensitive security matters.

Everyone assumes he does because he keeps saying he won’t sign bills until Congress sends him the SAVE Act. But here’s the thing… He knows the Constitution better than almost anyone advising him. If a bill passes both the House and Senate, there are only a few options: 

 Sign it. 

 Veto it. 

 Or do nothing.

Here’s what most people don’t realize… If the President does nothing for 10 days (excluding Sundays) while Congress is still in session, the bill automatically becomes law without his signature.

In other words… Threatening not to sign a bill isn’t the same thing as threatening to stop it.

If Trump truly wanted maximum leverage, why isn’t he threatening to veto every bill that reaches his desk until the SAVE Act lands on it? That’s the question.

Now here’s where my mind goes…

What if passing the SAVE Act right now isn’t actually the objective?

Think about it.

The second it becomes law, left-wing legal organizations would almost certainly race into federal court.

Lefty judges could issue injunctions before implementation. States could resist compliance.

The entire process would become bogged down in litigation heading into the midterms.

So maybe the legislative battle isn’t the endgame.

Maybe it’s about something else. Maybe it’s about creating a public record.

Showing the American people that Congress debated it.

That Republicans passed it.

That Trump pushed for it. That he publicly demanded it.

Building the optics.

Building the case.

Because if another legal mechanism is coming…

Everything changes.

Here’s the theory.

I believe we’re going to see a major election integrity report released by the DNI regarding election infrastructure and foreign interference.

If that happens—and if it becomes the basis for declaring a national emergency related to election security—the legal landscape changes dramatically.

Suddenly the SAVE Act isn’t carrying the entire weight by itself.

It becomes one piece of a much larger framework.

Maybe that’s why Trump isn’t leading with a veto threat.

Maybe he’s playing a different game entirely.

Maybe the SAVE Act was never the checkmate.

Maybe it was the move that sets up the checkmate.

This is the rule under Article I, Section 7 of the U.S. Constitution (the Presentment Clause):

  • Congress passes a bill and sends (“presents”) it to the President.
  • The President has 10 days (Sundays excluded) to act.
  • If he signs it → it becomes law.
  • If he vetoes it (returns it with objections) → Congress can try to override the veto with a 2/3 vote in both chambers.
  • If he does neither (neither signs nor vetoes) → the bill becomes law automatically, as if he had signed it.

Important exception: Pocket vetoThe bill does not become law if Congress adjourns (goes out of session) during that 10-day period in a way that prevents the President from returning the bill to Congress. This is called a “pocket veto.”
