own regulatory order. The War on Main St Banks was not caused by the Crytpo Bros. Community banks have been disappearing for years even as deposits across the U.S. banking system have risen to record levels. That is not evidence that crypto is draining the deposit base.
It is evidence of a banking system becoming more concentrated: fewer institutions controlling a larger share of deposits, lending, payments, and political influence. The real culprit is the law of unintended consequences. Dodd-Frank and the broader post-crisis regulatory regime were designed to discipline Wall Street. Instead, they entrenched its advantages. Large banks can spread legal, compliance, cybersecurity, technology, and reporting costs across vast balance sheets. Community banks cannot.
The predictable result has been consolidation, fewer local lenders, and a financial system increasingly dominated by firms considered too large to fail.
Now Team Warren, joined by elements of the bank lobby, wants to turn stablecoin yield into the villain. It is a convenient narrative. If Americans can hold digital dollars that offer yield, banks may have to compete harder for deposits. That is not a systemic threat. It is competition.
Stablecoins did not create the concentration of American banking.
They arrived after it.
The decline in community banks is a decades-long story of regulatory accumulation, scale economics, technological investment, and merger-driven consolidation. Pretending otherwise allows policymakers to avoid the harder question: why has Washington repeatedly designed rules that make small banking less viable while strengthening the institutions it claims to restrain?
The irony is hard to miss.
Team Warren claims to be protecting local banks from digital-finance competition, yet its preferred remedy would further protect the largest incumbent banks from having to pay a competitive return to depositors. Restricting stablecoin yield will not restore thousands of community banks.
It will preserve the advantages of banks already large enough to dominate the system. And the cost is larger than domestic banking. Stablecoins are becoming part of the architecture of global digital finance.
The country that shapes their standards, compliance rules, settlement infrastructure, and reserve markets will wield meaningful influence over the future monetary system. America should want dollar-based innovation to win that contest. Instead, Team Warren risks turning U.S. policy into an exercise in defensive protectionism: constrain American innovation, shield bank incumbents, and leave space for China and other rivals to define the future of digital finance.
If Washington genuinely wants to revive community banking, it should stop using crypto as a scapegoat. It should confront the regulatory architecture that has made scale a prerequisite for survival. You want Main St Banks to survive then deregulate!!!

- One thing the outraged CNN statement failed to address was that Holmes’ Oval Office outburst was in direct defiance of the guidelines set forth by the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA), which calls on the press pool to be respectful and neutral when covering the president.
- The WHCA also states that “disruptive behavior is unacceptable” and instructs poolers to keep their reporting “fair, tasteful and objective” and to “stick to relevant facts.” Holmes fell far short of her own industry’s standards, not that CNN will ever admit that.

Analysts finished the work on time. Leadership delayed it on purpose. This isn’t a conspiracy theory. It’s in their own internal memo. The deep state wasn’t a meme. It was policy.
President Trump issued Executive Order 13848 on September 12, 2018 (“Imposing Certain Sanctions in the Event of Foreign Interference in a United States Election”).
It establishes a post-election process focused on foreign interference (not a general report from every agency on every aspect of elections). Key requirements:
- Within 45 days after a U.S. election, the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), in consultation with the heads of any other appropriate executive departments and agencies, must conduct an assessment of information indicating that a foreign government (or agent acting on its behalf) interfered with the intent or purpose of affecting that election. The assessment covers the nature of any interference, methods used, persons involved, and supporting governments. It is delivered to the President and several cabinet secretaries (State, Treasury, Defense, Attorney General, Homeland Security).
- Within 45 days after receiving that assessment, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security (in consultation with other appropriate agencies and, as appropriate, state/local officials) must deliver a report evaluating the impact of any such interference on election infrastructure (security/integrity, vote tabulation, timely transmission of results) and on political/campaign infrastructure. It can include updates, recommendations for remedial actions (beyond the order’s sanctions), and notes on unresolved factual issues.
