Investors are pulling out money from ESG funds at a record pace:
US Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) funds posted a record $20 billion of outflows in 2024.

- Former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, who was confirmed as Trump’s Interior Secretary last week, is already clearing the way for Trump’s domestic energy production agenda.
- Burgum is revoking rules Joe Biden put in place which prevented drilling on certain lands due to climate change.
- Increasing energy production is going to touch nearly every part of Trump’s agenda. It’s going to help the economy, increase national security by decreasing our dependence on hostile nations, and make energy more affordable for millions of Americans.
This is excellent news.
The Washington Free Beacon reported:
Trump Admin Reopens Millions of Acres for Oil Drilling in Rollback of Biden Climate Agenda
The Trump administration is reopening oil and gas leasing across hundreds of millions of acres of federal lands and waters that were locked up by the Biden administration.
In a series of orders Monday evening, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum revoked Biden-era actions that blocked drilling across 625 million acres of federal waters nationwide—an area that is equivalent in size to a third of the continental United States—in the 19-million-acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska and in the state’s 23-million-acre National Petroleum Reserve.
Something does not add up here:
The US economy added 256,000 jobs in December on a seasonally adjusted basis, significantly above expectations of 164,000.
However, the US effectively lost 81,000 jobs last month on a non-seasonally adjusted basis.

last month’s seasonal adjustment increased the final number by a whopping 337,000 jobs. This was driven by December’s seasonal factor which was at its lowest in at least 24 years. A lower seasonal factor means a higher seasonal adjustment. Therefore, if a higher factor was used, one closer to the historical average, December’s jobs number would have been much lower. Why was the seasonal adjustment so large?

Political/Rights
- National Public Radio on Monday ran a so-called “sponsor message” promoting pharma giant Procter & Gamble’s nerve-relief drug Nervive, “designed to reduce occasional nerve aches, weakness and discomfort.” The message, effectively a commercial, is tied to one of hundreds of advertiser deals that are far more important to NPR than government funding. NPR brought in $100 million from corporate sponsors in 2023, compared to only $7 million in federal funding.
- The thinly disguised commercials such as the “sponsor message” from Procter & Gamble—aimed straight at NPR’s rapidly aging audience with aching hands and feet—are now the focus of the new Federal Communications Commission chairman, Brendan Carr, who may have found the powerful news giant’s Achilles’ heel. Carr has now launched an investigation into whether the news nonprofit’s “sponsor messages” have violated federal rules that prohibit taxpayer-funded radio stations from “airing commercials or other promotional announcements on behalf of for-profit entities.”
- NPR—whose $100 million sponsorship haul in 2023 came from around 450 corporate sponsors—has been criticized for decades by conservatives who object to an overtly liberal news outlet with enormous reach receiving taxpayer dollars.

USAID: Sadly, Politico reporters haven’t been paid after USAID payments were suspended. Opposition news outlets across Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa are facing similar problems. Was Politico funded by USAID or is this just a coincidence? pic.twitter.com/YVMqkk1CzI
— @amuse (@amuse) February 5, 2025
- Things are about to get much worse, though, so buckle up. According to recently revealed records, left-leaning news outlet Politico received over thirty-four million dollars from USAID and other government agencies. That money went to pay for “subscriptions” for various bureaucratic officials, including “pro” subscriptions that add up to over $10,000 a pop.
- Politico has never disclosed those payments even as they’ve written pieces covering USAID, posing as unbiased arbiters of truth. That represents one of the biggest scandals in the history of the press. The United States government was funneling money to a left-wing news outlet that has repeatedly done the bidding of the Democratic Party. As an example, you may remember Politico as the same news site that laundered the infamous letter from “51 intelligence officials” saying the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation.
- In other words, it sure looks like the Biden administration was paying a news outlet to do its bidding. Are we supposed to believe it’s just a coincidence that Politico was routinely the go-to for Democratic Party politicians and officials to launder their propaganda?

- The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has launched an investigation into radio stations backed by leftist billionaire George Soros for broadcasting live locations of undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
- Soros purchased over 200 Audacy radio stations and even took foreign investments to make his bid. The radio stations cover over 40 media markets in the United States, giving the leftist billionaire unprecedented control over communication.
- “The Enforcement Bureau proceeding is inquiring whether the radio station – which is licensed to operate by the FCC – is violating the terms of their FCC license, which requires that they operate in the ‘public interest.’
- The ICE agents were reportedly operating in response to violent gang activity.
- “On January 26, the host of KCBS Radio Weekend News, revealed over the public airwaves that undercover ICE agents were “carrying out an operation on the east side of town” and then “revealed the specific make, color and model of several unmarked vehicles used in the operation,” per Fox News.

- Governor Gavin Newsom is heading to the White House on Wednesday to ask President Donald Trump for federal money to address California’s wildfires, after state legislators passed $50 million to fund anti-Trump measures.
- Newsom himself agreed to the $50 million deal in mid-January, with fires still burning in the Los Angeles area, after complaining that Trump wanted to “politicize” the fires by talking about the state’s failed water policies and forestry.
- The spending came out of a special legislative session called by Newsom himself. The State Assembly passed the anti-Trump funding right away, and while the State Senate balked at first, it als passed the funding earlier this week.

And one of the things I want to investigate rapidly, because I’ve never seen anything to this extent, the train that’s being built between Los Angeles and San Francisco, is the worst-managed project I think I have ever seen. And I’ve seen some of the worst. Billions and billions, hundreds of billions of dollars over budget. In fact, I read where you could take every single person that was going to go on the train and get the finest limousine service in the world, and take them back and forth in limousines, and have hundreds of billions of dollars left over. It is the worst thing — and we are going to start an investigation in that, because it’s not possible. I built for a living, and I built on time, on budget.

Elon Musk Is “Special Government Employee”, White House Confirms
- The White House on Monday confirmed that Space X and Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk is considered a “special government employee” under the Trump administration amid questions about his work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
- President Donald Trump said that Musk “can’t do and won’t do anything without our approval, and we’ll give him the approval where appropriate; where not appropriate, we won’t.”
“He reports in … but he does have a good natural instinct,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday.
- The Republican president also downplayed complaints about Musk’s alleged conflict of interests, saying, “Where we think there’s a conflict or there’s a problem, we won’t let him go near it, but he has some very good ideas.”

According to the U.S. Code (18 U.S.C. § 202(a)), a Special Government Employee is an officer or employee of the executive or legislative branch of the U.S. government who:
-
Is retained, designated, appointed, or employed to perform temporary duties, either on a full-time or intermittent basis, for not more than 130 days during any period of 365 consecutive days; or
-
Serves on an advisory committee, board, commission, or similar group, whether or not they receive compensation.
-
-
-
SGEs are often experts or consultants brought into government service to provide specialized knowledge or skills that are not readily available within the permanent bureaucracy. This allows the government to leverage external expertise for specific projects or issues without the need for
-
SGEs are subject to many of the same conflict-of-interest laws and ethics regulations as regular federal employees, though with some differences due to their intermittent or temporary status. For instance, they might have different reporting requirements for financial interests or may be subject to different restrictions on post-employment activities.
-
The Office of Government Ethics (OGE) provides guidance on how these rules apply to SGEs, including considerations for financial disclosure, recusal from certain matters, and restrictions on gifts or outside activities that might conflict with their government duties.
-
-
-
In essence, the role of a Special Government Employee is designed to facilitate the government’s access to specialized expertise for limited periods, ensuring that policy-making and operations can benefit from external insights while still being bound by federal ethics and conflict of interest laws.

- It is quite possible that Donald Trump might shut down this agency permanently at the end of this pause, and he has the support of Republicans to do so.
- the Democrats are claiming that Trump is undoing the work of Congress, which is historically untrue. USAID was created by President John F. Kennedy over 60 years ago by Executive Order. Congress has never codified USAID as a permanent agency. Virtually anything done by Executive Order can be reversed by another President’s action, which is precisely what Trump has done.
- Here are only a few examples of the WASTE and ABUSE:

War
- President Donald Trump said on Monday that he wants Ukraine to trade “rare earths and other things” for continued American military and financial support.
Source: breitbart.com
Trump’s Interest In Ukraine’s Rare Earth Minerals Might Backfire On Zelensky
- US Senator Lindsey Graham raised awareness of Ukraine’s critical mineral riches during his trip there last June after he claimed that they’re sitting on $10-12 trillion worth of such wealth. Trump 2.0’s foreign policy focus on more muscularly containing China in all ways predictably predisposed him to appreciate the abovementioned point from Zelensky’s “Victory Plan”. The problem though is that the bulk of Ukraine’s critical mineral wealth is under Russian control and Ukrainian forces continue retreating.
- Instead of abandoning his efforts to freeze the Ukrainian Conflict by doubling down on military aid in the hopes that Zelensky’s forces will then recapture these deposits from Russia, which could perpetuate the proxy war and thus derail his foreign policy agenda, Trump might instead try to cut a deal with Putin. One of the conditions that Trump could make for coercing Ukraine into withdrawing from at least some of the territory that Russia claims as its own might be for Putin to sell the US some of these minerals.
- Putin might agree to this depending on how far Trump is able to coerce Ukraine into withdrawing, plus there’s a pragmatic argument in favor of this arrangement in that it could form a trust-building measure for the US one day allowing the EU to partially resume some Russia gas pipeline imports. The purpose would be to restore a degree of Russia and the EU’s pre-conflict complex economic interdependence, albeit this time under US supervision, as a reward for Russia complying with a ceasefire.
- Russia requires capital and technology to fully exploit the rare earth deposits that are now under its control, both of which could be provided by the US, with the first possibly involving the return of some seized Russian assets so long as they’re invested into this endeavor. If successfully implemented, then this proposal could lead to more creative diplomacy of the sort suggested at the end of this analysis here for depriving China of Russia’s enormous resource wealth, which aligns with Trump’s foreign policy goals.

Trump threatens tariffs on US allies opposing his Gaza takeover by refusing to take Palestinians
- President Donald Trump‘s administration is not ruling out tariffs on U.S. allies who don’t get in line with his Gaza plan, which has sparked outrage and condemnation in all corners of the globe.
Source: dailymail.co.uk
Arguments in favor:
- There is no way to solve the strategic problem Gaza poses.
- Gaza has been so thoroughly destroyed by war that it is essentially uninhabitable.
- The 20-year experiment in Palestinian governance of Gaza has been a miserable failure.
- U.S. ownership of Gaza could be a massive strategic asset. The U.S. could turn Gaza into a thriving free trade zone, the so-called “Singapore of the Middle East”
- A prosperous, coastal Gaza could be an economic engine for the region.
Questions:
- Where would the Gazans go? While President Trump seemed inclined to allow a minority of Palestinians to stay in Gaza, he also said that more than 75% of them should be resettled elsewhere. Egypt and Jordan have refused to take them, and no other country has stepped up to offer them a home — though the Israeli delegation in Washington seemed to believe that Indonesia, which wants a normalization agreement, could be an option.
- Who is going to pay for it? President Trump implied that wealthy Arab states would pay for removing the explosives, demolishing the ruins, and developing whatever comes next. But no Arab state has yet been willing to come forward.
