Xi is standing down while Trump completes the “world’s most powerful reset”. French authorities on Wednesday confined more than 1,700 passengers and crew on a cruise ship docked in Bordeaux after a passenger died from a suspected norovirus, officials said.
The Ambassador Cruise Line ship – with a majority of the 1,233 passengers from Britain or Ireland – arrived in the western port of Bordeaux on Tuesday.
One 90-year-old passenger on the Ambition had died and about 50 people have shown symptoms of norovirus, health officials said.
Norovirus is a form of gastroenteritis, which causes vomiting and diarrhoea and is highly contagious.
The ship, which left the Shetland Islands on May 6, stopped in Belfast in Northern Ireland, Liverpool in Britain, and Brest in France before reaching Bordeaux, from where it was scheduled to depart for Spain.

The federal government funds itself through 12 annual appropriations bills (or short-term continuing resolutions/CRs when those aren’t done). The current funding expires on September 30, 2026 — right before the November 2026 midterms. Republicans hold the Senate majority (around 53 seats) and the House, but most major bills need 60 votes to overcome a filibuster in the Senate. Democrats (the minority) can simply withhold the votes needed for cloture on any funding bill or CR. If no agreement is reached by the deadline:
Schmitt expects Democrats to pick a new flashpoint in September (not necessarily ICE again — it could be war funding, health care subsidies, or whatever polls best with their base) and refuse to pass clean funding. The goal, in his view: manufacture chaos and economic pain, blame the Republican majority/Trump administration for it, and turn voter anger toward the GOP in the midterms. He calls this “legislative terrorism” and “Trump derangement syndrome” tactics — an extension of past “defund the police” strategies. Democrats would frame it as Republicans refusing to compromise or protect programs.

- No congressional pay during shutdowns (to make it painful for lawmakers).
