The Department of Labor said on Thursday that 199,000 people filed for benefits for the first time, up from 198,000 in the prior week. That was better than the 201,000 consensus forecast.

Jobless claims have been below 200,000 for three consecutive weeks, the first such streak in 57 years. The last time jobless claims remained this low for this long was in 1969, during the extraordinary stretch of low unemployment from 1967 through 1969. The current numbers are all the more extraordinary because the workforce is more than twice as large and the last period’s labor numbers benefited from a military draft to support the Vietnam War.

. July’s revisions are a case study in exactly that failure: policymakers and markets built a hawkish narrative on numbers that were wrong. The 4.1 percent unemployment rate offers no refuge. Participation has fallen to 61.4 percent, the employment-population ratio has dropped to 58.9 percent, and the labor market is weakening through absorption before mass layoffs. Payrolls fell by 23,000, and May and June were revised down by a combined 103,000, a rewrite that leaves the prior 12 months averaging just 34,000 jobs a month.

The July report did not suddenly break the labor market; it exposed how soft it already was. Government jobs fell 53k. Entire loss of jobs was in gov – not a bad thing.

There is also a global cost to this mistake. U.S. rates that remain too high relative to Japan intensify the rate differentials that feed stress in the yen carry trade, encouraging leverage on the way up and disorderly unwinds on the way down. Warsh gets it. As does Bessent and Trump. Wall Street and much of the FOMC have lost the plot.

The Fed should stop shadowboxing yesterday’s inflation scare and cut toward neutral. Yes, US should have the lowest rates. The sooner Powell’s mistakes are reversed the better.

As I pointed out at the time. Kavanaugh followed the same playbook as Trump’s other “supposed” loss over tariffs. Kavanaugh literally gave Trump the “legal pathway” to approve his tariffs and then did it again for “birthright citizenship.”

Which is why Trump just wrote two Executive Orders limiting “birthright citizenship.” Trump is accomplishing his goals by using the legal pathways provided to do so. The Supreme Court majority, is actually on Trump’s side in this war and is “helping” him set “safeguards” for our country’s future.

  • Bulgaria’s defense ministry said the drone carried a ‘significant’ quantity of explosives and was of a type “widely used by the Ukrainian military.”  However, Ukraine has denied [::cough::] “intentionally” [::cough::] striking Bulgaria with one of their drones.
  • Yahoo: Ukraine on Saturday denied targeting Bulgaria after a drone exploded close to the strategic Trans-Balkan gas pipeline linking Turkey to Ukraine near the Romanian border.

  • The latest information on the drone at the Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany is very interesting.  “German authorities report the drone carried two SIM cards for redundant remote control a canned‑food container repurposed as an explosive charge custom wiring and mounts designed to bypass airport security systems.”
  • Now the Germans appear to be saying someone carried the drone into the airport in component parts, then assembled it beyond the security checkpoint.  Remember, this was in the cargo flight area, and there are five unused Antonov cargo planes in the vicinity. Two belong to Ukraine and 3 belong to Russia (grounded under sanctions). I highly doubt it was a Russian national working at the airport that also services NATO cargo.

Yes, complete Hamas disarmament followed by (or tightly linked to) Israeli withdrawal is a core element of President Trump’s Gaza plan and the related Board of Peace 15-point roadmap.

The specific 15-point Board of Peace roadmap (the document Netanyahu rejected on August 9, 2026) builds on that. It sets out a gradual, sequential, time-bound process in which Hamas and other armed groups decommission heavy weapons, production sites, depots, and tunnels (with weapons going to a new Palestinian technocratic authority, not to Israel). This process is explicitly linked to a phased Israeli withdrawal. Full Israeli withdrawal occurs only after verification that Gaza is free of weaponry.

Trump himself described it this way: as disarmament is completed, Israeli forces will withdraw, with an international stabilization force and new Palestinian police taking over security.

The disagreement is over sequencing and verification details. Israel (as Netanyahu stated) insists on genuine, complete disarmament of all weapons before any withdrawal. The 15-point draft uses a phased/linked approach that Israel views as insufficiently strict, which is why Netanyahu rejected that specific document while saying Israel is still discussing the issue with the U.S. Hamas, for its part, has conditioned full disarmament on Israeli withdrawal and other steps.

In short, “Hamas completely disarmed → Israel withdraws” is exactly the end-state sequence Trump’s plan aims for; the fight is over how strictly and in what order the steps are enforced.

 

Report: New Strait of Hormuz Accord Nearing, As Iran Seeks Compensation From US   
We’ve seen this show before, but here we are again: There are indications that Iran and Oman may be nearing a deal over opening the Strait of Hormuz. As usual, there are a couple of catches.

 

Here’s the onion:

 Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Iran and Oman were “very close” to agreement on a new shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz but that reopening the strait depended on other conditions, including U.S. compensation to Iran.

 President Trump almost certainly won’t accept any deal that includes either Iran or Oman charging any kind of toll on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Nor will he agree to any compensation for Iran, which would certainly be used not for the benefit of the Iranian people but for buying and building more weapons. And, once more, they cannot be relied on to keep any deal they agree to. They simply won’t.

The more Iran rattles Hormuz, the faster it erodes the very leverage it seeks to exploit. In the end, this is not deterrence. Its substitution and substitution, once funded, is irreversible.

Iran War Turns into Trump Middle East Triumph: We are about to see the biggest reshaping of the Middle East since Moses led the Jews out of Egypt.

 

Winning is the Only Thing 

 Maximalists. They would only be happy if Trump fought the war they wanted, arguing that nothing less than overthrowing the regime would do. Anything else is a defeat and a humiliation. That’s a perversion of the president’s more limited goals to eliminate the regime’s capacity to bully and destabilize the region—objectives largely accomplished.

Minimalists. They would only be satisfied if America did nothing, contending, “Trump has dragged the United States into a needless war with Iran—and one with no clear end,” ignoring that the regime building a nuclear arsenal; constantly threatening its neighbors; plotting the assassination of U.S. officials; and engineering the horrific October 7 attacks on Israel were clear and present dangers, and that Trump demolished these threats in a way that no other American president ever came close to even denting.

 

Procrastinators. They are impatient and confused by what they see as Trump’s waffling, vacillating between negotiating and punishing the regime, overlooking the deep conviction behind his strategy, a sincere humanitarian streak which abhors needless loss of life—ours and theirs. Since he has largely accomplished our war aims, Trump can take a more measured approach to get to the end-state he wants without unnecessary loss of life and needless destruction. Instead, he is “de-risking—every time the Iranians fail to meet their obligations or retaliate, he takes more capabilities and assets of Iran off the table.” Rest assured, worriers, that while the war may only be over when the enemy quits—the truth is that the enemy has already lost, and now the only prospect they face is that the more they fight, the more they lose. 

Obstructionists. They are what’s left leading Iran, insisting that as long as they are still standing and resisting, they win, conveniently passing over the point that Trump has humbled and humiliated the regime, virtually decimating their armed forces and crippling Iran’s economy.

All the above opinions can largely be discounted. Not only are they wrong, but none have the power or capacity to deter Trump from his course. Nor should he take the counsel of their fears.

Theory of Victory

The victor gets to define victory.

 

Energy Resilience. Only a year ago, the Iranian regime could threaten to shut down up to a third or more of the world’s oil exports. Even today, while fighting in the Strait of Hormuz still lingers, that is no longer true. Regional exports are rebounding, by some estimates up to two-thirds of pre-war levels. The UAE, for example, is already exporting at 85% of pre-war levels.

Nor is oil rocketing toward $ 200 a barrel like the IRGC hoped. In fact, prices are bobbing below wartime highs. Part of this is because the region is rapidly developing redundant and resilient means to move product through new cooperative initiatives, including potentially a Saudi-Israeli pipeline. The prospects that Iran can hold the flow of the world’s energy hostage are now nil.

Reconstruction. Recently, the Board of Peace announced, over the objections of Iran, an unprecedented agreement to disarm Hamas, a precursor to the reconstruction of Gaza. The board also announced a pilot reconstruction project in Gaza to begin in November. Further, the U.S. is leading a trilateral framework with Israel and Lebanon and aggressively working to normalize relations with Syria.

 

Economic integration. The U.S. and Iraq recently announced over $60 billion in future economic deals. Washington also trumpeted an additional multi-million dollar investment in TRIPP in Armenia.

 

Security Cooperation. The U.S. and Saudi Arabia recently took action against Iran-backed militias in Iraq. Saudi Arabia just announced the establishment of a multinational coalition to provide maritime security in the Red Sea. Israeli recently expanded defense cooperation with the UAE.

All these initiatives point to the growing willingness of regional powers to expand collective security and build a conventional deterrence framework against the current Iranian regime.

If Trump were losing his war, none of these initiatives would be happening. Instead, what is being witnessed is increased American influence, increased partnerships, and more momentum for the framework Trump envisions to bring long-term peace and stability to the region. These are not signs of defeat, but regional transformation on an unprecedented scale.

On Friday, August 7, 2026 (the last day before the August recess), the Senate held a single 51-47 party-line vote that confirmed a group of 74 of President Trump’s lower-level civilian nominees at once.

  • In September 2025, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Republicans used the “nuclear option” to change the chamber’s rules. This lets them bundle certain executive-branch nominees (deputy secretaries, under secretaries, assistant secretaries, ambassadors, agency heads like FEMA/TSA, U.S. attorneys, etc.) into one package and pass the whole package with a simple majority vote.
  • Republicans said the change was needed because Democrats had blocked the traditional practice of confirming non-controversial nominees by unanimous consent or voice vote, creating a big backlog.

This August 7 package was the fifth such en-bloc vote since the rule change. Earlier ones included batches of 48, 100+, and 97 nominees. After this latest vote, roughly 95% of Trump’s eligible civilian nominees waiting for floor action had been cleared. 

Senate Majority Leader John Thune gave the go-ahead and scheduled the vote.As the Republican Majority Leader, Thune controls the Senate floor calendar. He:

  • Filed the executive resolution that bundled the 74 nominees into one package
  • Filed cloture on that resolution
  • Brought the package to the floor for the final 51-47 vote on August 7, 2026

But today we learned through declassified documents that a hacker in Arizona purloined hundreds of thousands of voter files out of Maricopa County, Arizona, which just so happens to be one of the key 2020 battleground States that decided that election — the one that Fox News called Way Too Early for Biden.

Nothing was done to prosecute the American hacker at the federal or state level, which makes no sense. Standing alone, the Maricopa County, Arizona hack was one of the largest compromises in U.S. history of confidential voter data. Yet the culprit was allowed to get off scot-free.

Was the hacker told he was golden and skate?

Is that why he maintained he acted alone? That tends to happen when a target knows they’re not going to be prosecuted. The ruling left intact the traditional, narrow historical exceptions (mainly children of foreign diplomats with immunity and children of invading/enemy forces, where an “extraterritorial fiction” applies so they are not considered fully under U.S. jurisdiction).What the new August 6, 2026 executive orders actually doTrump signed two narrower orders the day after the post you linked:

  1. “Continuing to Protect the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship”
    This one explicitly cites Trump v. Barbara and claims it is simply identifying categories of children who “do not fall within the rule of birthright citizenship as announced by the Supreme Court.”

     

    The listed categories are:

    • Children of “alien enemies” (members of designated foreign terrorist organizations or specially designated global terrorists).
    • Children of certain foreign government employees (diplomats, embassy/consular staff with immunity, etc.).
    • Children whose parents engaged in a commercial transaction to obtain citizenship (explicitly including birth tourism packages or paid surrogacy arrangements aimed at securing a U.S. birth).
    • Children born in certain U.S. territories where federal statute does not already confer citizenship.

    Agencies are directed not to issue or recognize citizenship documents for people in these categories when neither parent is a U.S. citizen.

  2. Ending Birth Tourism
    This one is different in nature. It uses the president’s existing statutory authority over visas and admission to the United States. It directs the Secretaries of State and Homeland Security to deny visas, revoke travel authorization, bar entry, and remove people who come (or arrange for others to come) for the primary purpose of giving birth to obtain citizenship for the child.

Bottom line on “overriding”

  • The administration is not claiming the power to overrule the Supreme Court. It is arguing that these narrower categories fit inside the historical exceptions the Court itself recognized (or left room for).
  • The visa/entry restrictions on birth tourism are the part least likely to be seen as a direct challenge to the Court’s constitutional holding.
  • The citizenship-document-denial order (especially the commercial/birth-tourism prong) is more aggressive and is widely expected to be challenged in court. Lower courts and eventually the Supreme Court will decide whether those categories truly fall outside the rule the Court announced in June.

 

America First Legal Takes Fight to Fix Botched 2020 Census to Supreme Court – Statistical Tricks Favored Blue States and Robbed GOP States of Electoral Votes 

  • America First Legal has taken its landmark challenge against the deeply flawed 2020 Census straight to the U.S. Supreme Court, demanding that the justices reverse a lower court’s dismissal and force accountability for a count that systematically undercounted red states while padding blue ones.
  • On August 7, AFL, co-founded by Trump senior advisor Stephen Miller, filed a jurisdictional statement with the Supreme Court. The group is asking the high court to hear its case and overturn the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida’s ruling that dismissed the lawsuit.
  • A divided three-judge panel had thrown out the case in July, claiming the plaintiffs lacked standing and that the challenge came too late. Judge Steven Merryday issued a blistering dissent, warning that “If the census and the vote are not right, nothing that follows from them is right.”
  • This is not some technical accounting dispute. The 2020 Census, conducted under the Biden-Harris administration’s early influence after Trump left office, abandoned the Constitution’s clear command of an “actual Enumeration.”
  • Instead, the Census Bureau leaned heavily on statistical imputation and other gimmicks, filling in missing people with made-up data and injecting “noise” under the guise of privacy.
  • The result? Florida was undercounted by approximately 3.48 percent, or roughly 760,000 people. Other red and purple states took similar hits, while several blue states were overcounted.
  • Those distortions directly translated into lost congressional seats and Electoral College votes for Republican-leaning states. Florida, already a powerhouse of growth and Trump support, was shortchanged representation it earned.
  • Blue strongholds in the Northeast and elsewhere kept or gained seats they did not deserve. As AFL has repeatedly documented, the Bureau’s own data showed nearly 11 million people were “imputed,” almost double the 2010 figure, while real Americans in growing red states were missed.
  • “The Constitution calls for an ‘actual enumeration’ of the people so Congress can accurately allocate representatives among the states. The Census Bureau failed in 2020 to complete this count,” said Emily Percival, Senior Counsel at America First Legal. “We are asking the Supreme Court to step in to hold the Bureau to this Constitutional standard. Americans deserve to have their voices heard through accurate representation in Congress.”
  • Now AFL is forcing the issue to the highest court in the land, arguing the district court’s order effectively makes any meaningful challenge to census failures nearly impossible, despite Congress creating avenues for exactly that.

The Circuit Court also refused to acknowledge that the desperately needed, and totally secure Ballroom, which is being built ahead of schedule and under budget, is a Gift from President Trump and Great Patriots of the United States of America. The entire Complex, Military and all, is largely built, fabricated, and paid for. Much is already on site, or being delivered. Why didn’t they bring this case long prior to construction starting? There will be no expense to the American Taxpayer. This unjust decision must be overturned by the Supreme Court in its entirety.
