Target announced Tuesday it is lowering prices on 3,000 food, beverage and essential items, though prices could vary by location and online. This is the latest in a string of initiatives the retailer has rolled out to offer shoppers lower prices.
The retailer also announced a $500,000 donation to Feeding America to support its hunger relief efforts amid increased demand at food banks.
Lowering prices on thousands of items that shoppers frequently buy “will make a difference for families managing tight household budgets during the holidays,” Lisa Roath, chief merchandising officer of food, essentials and beauty at Target, said in the announcement. The press release noted it will not reduce prices in Alaska and Hawai’i.
The price cuts build on Target’s growing affordability efforts as the holiday season arrives. The retailer highlighted in the Tuesday announcement its lowest price ever for a Thanksgiving meal, which the retailer unveiled earlier this month. The meal feeds four for less than $5 per person and includes a Good & Gather turkey that costs 79 cents per pound.

Bostic, who in the press release was described as “the first African American and openly gay president of a regional Federal Reserve Bank in its 111-year history” took the helm at the Atlanta Fed in 2017; he will step down on Feb. 28, the Atlanta Fed said in a statement.
Bostic, is perhaps best known for a big trading scandal, where trades on Bostic’s behalf took place during prohibited “blackout” periods around Federal Open Market Committee meetings 154 times between March 2018 and March 2023.
He also filed inaccurate disclosure forms, held more Treasury securities than allowed and twice executed trades that were different than those that he sought central bank clearance for.
In 2024, the Fed’s in-house watchdog said Bostic’s trading and investing broke central bank rules, and Bostic created the appearance he acted on confidential information and the appearance of a conflict of interest, in violation of the Atlanta Fed’s code of conduct. However, perhaps due to his background (see above) the report said investigators found no evidence that Bostic in reality used inside information about Fed deliberations or had financial conflicts of interest.
His departure will further shake up the US central bank at a time when it’s experiencing other high-profile personnel changes and unprecedented political pressure from the President Donald Trump to lower borrowing costs. Bostic will leave a few months before the Fed comes under new leadership, with Chair Jerome Powell’s tenure at the head of the central bank set to end in May.
Donald Trump’s trade war has been less damaging for Europe’s economy than widely feared, and there is a hope that a stable recovery is underway, European Central Bank governing council member Martin Kocher said.

The deed includes explicit language making the borrower liable for false or misleading statements regarding occupancy.

If Swalwell’s true domicile is in Washington, DC, the city where he has declared his principal residence, he may no longer meet the basic requirement of being a California “inhabitant.”
Public records searches have not revealed any home ownership or lease under Eric Swalwell’s name in California.
The address most often associated with his background in Livermore, 320 Michell Court, is only a three-bedroom, 1,350 square feet home that belongs to the Mrzywka family who has lived there continuously since 2008, making it highly unlikely that Swalwell resides there today.

Supreme Court takes up decision to count ballots when they arrive past the deadline
States run presidential elections but federal law sets the standards that must be met, and that specifies that election day in America is “the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November” of even-numbered years.
So can states arbitrarily say they’re going to have an election week, accepting ballots that arrive after the election day deadline?
That’s now pending before the Supreme Court.
It is Watson v. Republican National Committee out of Mississippi that the court is reviewing.
That law allows state officials to count ballots when they are mailed, and received, up to five days late.
The RNC sued the state, charging that Mississippi is in violation of the federal statute that designates Election Day as the single day on which elections are held.
The RNC contends that means ballot collection is done, that day.

Donald Trump, there have been eight presidents in just the last 100 years who had no problem in using tariffs as leverage to gain a better deal for American consumers.
Starting with Herbert Hoover, the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act was established in 1930 to protect the interests of American farmers and manufacturers. It raised tariffs on more than 20,000 imported goods often by 40%–60%.
It first targeted agricultural products, but later expanded to industrial goods under pressure from manufacturing lobbies.
The result was that it became one of the highest protective tariffs in U.S. history.
Seeing the success of Smoot-Hawley, FDR got the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act (1934) passed through Congress.
This act didn’t increase tariffs, but it gave the president the ability to negotiate from a position of strength and eventually reduced duties through bilateral trade deals.
In 1963-1964, President Lyndon Johnson retaliated against European tariffs in what has become known as the “chicken war.”
Johnson imposed tariffs on imported light trucks, brandy, potato starch, and dextrin.
The 25% tariff on light trucks (the “chicken tax”) still exists today and protects U.S. automakers.
The 1980s saw President Ronald Reagan use tariffs on Japan to address trade imbalances and unfair trade practices by that country. He placed quotas and tariffs on Japanese motorcycles that helped protect Harley-Davidson’s competitiveness. He also restricted imports of Japanese semiconductors and automobiles.
Reagan’s successor, George H.W. Bush helped protect U.S. steel manufacturers by imposing tariffs on Brazilian and European steel. Bush used these tariffs as a negotiating tool in similar fashion to his predecessors.
In 2002, following in his father’s footsteps, President George W. Bush imposed 30% steel tariffs on imported steel to help the struggling domestic industry.
After the European Union threatened sanctions, the WTO ruled against the U.S. and tariffs were withdrawn after 21 months.
President Barack Obama imposed a 35% tariff on Chinese Tires in 2009 to protect U.S. tire makers. This boosted U.S. tire makers’ production, but it ended up in higher consumer prices.
China then retaliated with tariffs on U.S. poultry and auto parts.
President Trump took the tariff gloves off during his first term with his “America First” trade policy and pressured China, Mexico, the E.U., and others.
He imposed tariffs on $360+ billion in Chinese goods under Section 301 (intellectual property); slapped steel and aluminum tariffs (25% and 10%, respectively) and threatened or imposed tariffs on automobiles, solar panels, and washing machines.
And while this triggered global retaliation, disrupted supply chains, it was the first major salvo fired aimed at reshaping U.S. trade policy debates.
Even though Joe Biden has only been an ex-president for eleven months, people in the media and in the pundit class have apparantly forgotten Biden’s use of tariff policy.
Unlike Trump’s broad and aggressive use of tariffs, Biden treated tariffs as leverage in negotiations — particularly with China — and as tools for industrial and climate policy rather than pure protectionism.
Biden actually continued using Trump-era tariffs on China. He maintained nearly all of Trump’s tariffs on Chinese imports and used them as bargaining tools in U.S.–China trade and technology talks.
This was done to protect semiconductors, green tech, and critical minerals industries to promote his “green economy.”
He linked tariffs to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and CHIPS and Science Act, both supposedly aimed at strengthening domestic production.
In addition, Biden either imposed or considered imposing tariffs on Chinese solar panels, batteries, and electric vehicles (EVs) to prevent “dumping” of subsidized Chinese green tech into U.S. markets.
He modified but did not remove steel and aluminum tariffs and converted Trump’s blanket tariffs (25% on steel, 10% on aluminum) into tariff-rate quotas (TRQs) for allies like the E.U., Japan, and the U.K.
This allowed for limited imports without tariffs but preserved protection for U.S. producers.
During the last year of his presidency, Joe Biden raised tariffs on $18 billion of Chinese imports, including: 100% tariffs on electric vehicles (EVs), 50% on solar cells, 25% on steel and aluminum and 50% on semiconductors.
These were deemed necessary to protect “strategic industries.”
Looking back, it can be said that Biden’s tariff policy marked a shift from Trump’s “trade war” to that of an “industrial defense” position. He basically kept Trump’s tariffs, refined their focus, and added climate and supply chain resilience as justifications.
Critics argue that this approach blurs the line between protectionism and industrial policy, while supporters see it as strategic containment of China’s dominance in key sectors.
The U.S. Supreme Court began hearing oral arguments about whether the president has the authority to essentially take over and/or manage the setting and implementation of tariffs.
Those opposed to this power being vested in the executive’s hands will argue that only Congress has the power to tax and that a tariff is a tax.
I and many others maintain that tariffs are simply another legitimate and normal cost of doing business when it comes to imported goods. Unlike those fluctuating costs directly related to the production of an item like energy, logistics, labor and many others, the major difference with tariffs is that they are the most visible and fixed costs associated with a product.
The bottom line is that no consumer is required to buy any imported product that has a tariff attached to it, and should they choose to reject those products and keep their money in their pockets they will not pay any of the costs of producing that product, including tariffs.
Taxes, on the other hand, are applied when a product either passes from one part of the production and distribution chain to the other, but they stop dead in their tracks at the end-user stage if the end-user simply says, “no thanks; I’m not buying it.”

Rep. Barry Loudermilk says he fears that the FBI withheld vital intelligence, creating fateful security holes before Capitol riot.
Numerous confidential informants alerted the FBI prior to the Jan. 6, 2021 riot that there was the strong possibility of “armed” conflict at the U.S. Capitol, but that intelligence was not disbursed aggressively enough to force a change in security that fateful day, the first congressman to review those source reports tells Just the News.
Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., the chairman of the House Judiciary subcommittee investigating Jan. 6 law enforcement failures, said he was floored to see the specificity of threats and the consistency in warnings that multiple confidential human sources provided the FBI and that the intelligence was serious enough that it should have prompted more security and possibly even a cancellation of President Donald Trump’s speech that day on the Ellipse.
Loudermilk said the intelligence reports came weeks and days in advance of the Capitol riot from about two dozen informants embedded in radical groups around the country and that many of those informants came to the Capitol to keep assisting the FBI.

There has been a major security breach at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and some are blaming the Trump administration for this, pointing out the cancellation of IT security contracts. Yes, that’s concerning. Any data breach at any organization that has to do with people’s financial information is concerning. But there are a couple of things that the CFPB and its supporters, including the notorious Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), whose brainchild the CFPB was, aren’t mentioning.
President Donald Trump’s clampdown on the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau earlier this year has compounded IT security lapses at the agency through the cancellation of contracts, according to an audit report released on Monday.
The information security program at CFPB — which maintains sensitive and confidential data from investigations, the oversight of companies and complaints received from members of the public — is “not effective,” according to the Office of Inspector General, which also covers the Federal Reserve.
Note that there isn’t any particular indication as to how these security breaches happened, but there was also a pretty significant breach some time earlier, in 2023, in which people’s personal information might have been released. Remember, this was during the Biden administration.

This is an agency that shouldn’t exist. There is no constitutional authorization for this function, which a plain reading of the 10th Amendment would indicate that it shouldn’t exist. In fact, it would indicate that its existence is unconstitutional, although in that sense, you can add it to a long, long list of the things that the federal government does. We got along very well without it before 2011. We could get along just as well without it after 2025. The CFPB has been plagued with trouble from its outset, from the aforementioned data breach (a screw-up on the part of an employee) to harassment and discrimination scandals.

important. To quickly summarize, it’s an article that explains the largely unknown network of businesspersons and politicos who were extraordinarily important in the 2024 election, and are now feverishly working behind the scenes to make MAGA a perpetual force, even when Donald Trump leaves office.
The main focus of the article is on a gentleman named Chris Buskirk, a businessman and largely anonymous dynamo who is essential to the MAGA movement and who was a key player in electing Trump 2.0 and bringing JD Vance to prominence.
I’ll be honest, much of this article was news to me and my first gut reaction upon reading this article was: “Rule by elites? No way. That’s what so-called “progressives” do. Are we conservatives trying to be what Woodrow Wilson wanted? No way.” But then it dawned on me: this is the Washington Post, and it is impossible for them to write a fair article. In this case, they want to cater to their core Leftist audience by demonizing anything on the Right, but this particular article also has the specific purpose of scaring conservatives like you and me by evoking the anti-elitism sentiments that are the heartbeat of our movement. Once I realized that and thought things through, I am no longer scared, but excited!
I’ll explain. When “progressives” talk about rule by “elites” (I hate that term), what they really mean is rule by unelected bureaucrats outside the bounds of the Constitution.
They are talking about the kinds of agencies people like Big Chief Lizzie Warren fight for, such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The CFPB is specifically designed to be unaccountable to any voter or any elected leader, and has a huge impact on all of our lives.
That sort of extraconstitutional chicanery is how the Left wants to rule. (FYI, so many of the federal court cases that have bedeviled Trump 2.0 are all about this same problem–putting power in the hands of a perpetual, bureaucratic, unelected ruling class instead of the ELECTED Constitutional branches where that power is actually supposed to reside.)
However, the “aristocracy” (note the scare quotes by WaPo designed to create fear, just like their uses of the words “secretive” and “deploy its arsenal”) discussed in this article is not designed to operate outside the Constitution. Instead it seeks to leverage the power and influence of a circle of wealthy, grounded, conservative individuals who came up through the working class to ELECT populist leaders who will operate inside the bounds of the Constitution.
Let me say that again: WHO WILL OPERATE INSIDE THE BOUNDS OF THE CONSITUTION. What REALLY scares the WaPo and the Left is the fact that MAGA has organized a political machine to achieve and maintain elected power in the same effective way Democrats have been organized for decades, and which the GOP has failed at so miserably in the same time span.
Thanks to heroes like Chris Buskirk, we on the Right now have a powerful set of political organizations and processes that rival the best the Democrats have ever had to offer.
I know many of you are scared as to what will happen to MAGA when Trump leaves office, but this article tells us the incredibly good news that this is being solved behind the scenes as we speak. Hallelujah.

Based on the payments, Meyer has earned varying amounts each year, including over 27 payments last year that added up to over $120,000. He is also on pace to make over $120,000 in 2025.
The FEC filings list several different reasons for the payments, ranging from travel expenses, car service, security services, and salary. There are also several payments to Meyer for things like “personal travel expense reimbursement,” “event flowers reimbursement” and postage.

On Saturday, Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced an emergency order, with a city-wide curfew for anyone under 18, beginning Saturday night.

it’s illegal for Medicaid to cover illegal immigrants. And others accurately point out that hospitals can provide emergency services to illegal immigrants under the program. We can all agree on this: rooting out fraud, waste, and abuse is essential to protecting this program for the most vulnerable.
It’s also one of the Trump Administration’s top priorities. Let me lay down the facts: The truth is that federal law is supposed to prohibit federal Medicaid dollars broadly from being used to cover illegal immigrants. It does permit states to use Medicaid dollars for emergency treatment, regardless of patients’ citizenship or immigration status.
States can also legally build Medicaid programs for illegal immigrants using their own state tax dollars, so long as no federal tax dollars are used. But that didn’t stop Democrats from going even further by breaking federal law to give illegal immigrants federal Medicaid dollars meant for American citizens.
Earlier this year, the CMS team began auditing state Medicaid programs to ensure they were following the law and not spending any federal tax dollars on illegal immigrants outside of emergency Medicaid. What we found was shocking. In a preliminary review of 6 states, we found those states improperly using federal tax dollars for their allegedly state-funded program and providing coverage to individuals, including some with criminal records of murder and assault.

WA – $2,367,194
CO – $1,506,743
OR – $5,404,368
We notified the states, and many have begun refunding the money.
But what if we had never asked? Whether willful or not, the states’ conduct highlights a terrifying reality: American taxpayers have been footing the bill for illegal immigrants’ Medicaid coverage, despite many Democrats and the media insisting otherwise. Democrats are demanding the repeal of the President’s Working Families Tax Cuts legislation in order for their votes to reopen the government.
This law wisely strengthened our ability to limit federal dollars from being spent on health care for illegal immigrants. Until Democrats explicitly drop that demand, they’re blatantly holding the government hostage over giving Medicaid to illegal immigrants.
Democrats keeping the Government closed through the monthly payment date and, even if we get immediate guidance, it will unfortunately be delayed while States get the money out.
