Economy

Analysts had expected a draw (decline) of roughly 1.4–1.7 million barrels. Instead they got a huge build — a massive miss.

 A large build usually means:
  • More oil is flowing into storage than is being refined, exported, or consumed.
  • Drivers this week included a sharp rise in imports and a drop in exports.

When stocks rise this dramatically (and far beyond forecasts), it points to oversupply pressure. That is typically bearish for oil prices — more oil sitting in tanks tends to push prices lower, all else equal.

If breakevens remain contained and the rate-sensitive parts of the economy, from housing and commercial real estate to durable goods, credit formation, and capital expenditure, are already bearing the unmistakable effects of tight money, then maintaining a policy rate above neutral is not prudence.

It is gratuitous restraint. This is not an exotic proposition r* is, by definition, the policy setting at which monetary policy neither stimulates nor suppresses demand. A Fed funds rate above r* is restrictive; it is intended to slow activity and pull inflation lower.

The burden, therefore, is on those defending the present stance to identify the persistent excess demand, the de-anchoring of inflation expectations, or the credit excess that warrants deliberately holding policy in restrictive territory. They do not. Instead, one hears the familiar invocations of “data dependence,” as if that phrase relieves policymakers and their media chorus of the obligation to interpret the data coherently.

It does not. With inflation expectations broadly disciplined and monetary transmission visibly concentrated in the sectors most exposed to interest rates, the sensible default is for the funds rate to sit at neutral, not above it. The case for continued restriction has become little more than institutional inertia dressed up as vigilance. To be honest it’s pathetic.

New: Operation Guardian Angel Nabs 362 Criminal Illegal Aliens From CA Jails
  •  the Department of Justice sent out a press release titled, California Jails Forced to Transfer Hundreds of Criminal Illegal Aliens into Federal Custody One Year into Operation Guardian Angel. In this operation, California jails handed over at least 362 illegal immigrants who were languishing in that state system.

This was intended to slam the door on California’s “sanctuary state” laws, and it’s doing that.

 Operation Guardian Angel works by securing federal arrest warrants for aliens recently arrested by local law enforcement. Once issued, local jails are legally required to honor the arrest warrants and must hand over the criminal illegal alien in their custody to the federal government.

The operation began in May 2025 and has resulted in 769 arrest warrants issued, and the actual transfer of 362 defendants – 347 of whom are federally charged with illegally re-entering the United States following removal, or another federal offense. Other federal charges include unlawful possession of a firearm by an alien, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, using a firearm in drug trafficking or a crime of violence, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Laplaca previously pleaded guilty to child abuse and DUI charges after driving drunk with her child in the car last year. She was sentenced to supervision, but it looks like she hasn’t learned her lesson and decided to fix an election now. Laplaca and her husband are due back in court on these new charges next month. Democrats can’t win elections, or even get on the ballot without cheating.
