• Anthropic has spent weeks warning that AI could end human civilization. All the while, it was building a wet lab. The company only confirmed the wet lab after reporters started asking questions.
  • Eric Kauderer-Abrams, Anthropic’s head of life sciences, confirmed the lab in a Reuters interview and said some experiments will be done in-house and others through outside partners.
  • “We believe that to do biology, the final test is still, and will be for a while, in real lab work,” Kauderer-Abrams said. “We absolutely are doing that today.”
  • Anthropic has been spending on this for a while. It bought Coefficient Bio in April in a stock deal reportedly worth about $400 million. Novartis CEO Vas Narasimhan joined the board. Claude Science now taps more than 60 databases covering genomics, proteomics and structural biology. This month Anthropic added a Life Sciences Verification Program for vetted researchers.

  Eventually it would slow AI innovation down–that is if it didn’t do so already. By reframing it as a hoax and then shedding the old negative connotation with a name change, he solved the AI fear problem for tens of millions of people. Remember–the reframe and rebrand isn’t for everyone. He’s not trying to get 100% approval, nor should he. But he lost nothing by doing it AND neutralized AI fear for tens of millions. This move, like all strong persuasion moves, will strengthen and gain momentum over time.

  • The jobs portal was defaced; the FBI then took apply.fbijobs.gov and the Special Agent Applicant Portal offline (still showing as unavailable as of 23 September). Multiple outlets observed or received screenshots of the defacement.
     
  • The FBI’s official statement: it “is aware of claims regarding unauthorized activity affecting FBIjobs.gov and is currently investigating.” It has not confirmed a broader internal breach or the volume of stolen data.
     
  • ShinyHunters gave samples covering ~5,000 purported employees to 404 Media, Reuters, and others. Reuters partially verified records (names, addresses, SSNs, assignments, some family details) against credit-bureau data and prior-breach archives; at least 10 matched, including FBI Director Kash Patel. 404 Media also matched some phone numbers to the named people and to existing DOJ-related records.
     
  • Politico sources familiar with the investigation described the claims as credible and called the incident a significant counterintelligence problem.
     

What remains unverified by the FBI, Oracle, or AWS:

  • Whether the PeopleSoft flaw was a brand-new zero-day (the group had used a PeopleSoft vulnerability against universities earlier in 2026).
  • Exact volume (2–3 TB), full coverage of “almost all” agents/applicants, or compromise of specific named services (Criminal Justice, HR, Medlink).
  • That every record originated from current FBI internal systems rather than being assembled from multiple sources.
