Trump Signs Pipeline Permits to Boost US–Canada Oil Flow

  • President Donald Trump issued several pipeline permits on April 15, including one for the construction of a new pipeline to facilitate the transportation of crude oil and petroleum products between the United States and Canada, according to documents released by the White House.
  • The action covers four permits in total. The permit authorizing construction was issued to the Bakken Pipeline Co. LP for pipeline facilities in Burke County, North Dakota. Other permits were issued for the maintenance and operation of existing pipelines at border locations in North Dakota and Michigan. Gates Foundation to Cut Hundreds of Jobs Amid Epstein Investigation

  •  The Gates Foundation, co-founded by Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, will eliminate as many as 500 jobs in the coming years.
  • According to an internal email reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, the foundation also opened an external review of its ties to the deceased sex offender and suspected sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
  • Those 500 jobs, set to be phased out by 2030, represent approximately 20 percent of the organization’s total workforce.
  • According to the email, the foundation plans to cut 200 of those jobs by the end of 2027. Reductions in travel and other expenses will accompany the cuts.
  • When the Justice Department released files on Epstein in December and again in January, Gates’ name figured prominently.
  • The billionaire, for instance, appeared with various women in photos released by the House Oversight Committee in December.

Brendan Carr (FCC Chairman) is criticizing the current TV Parental Guidelines ratings system (the familiar TV-Y, TV-Y7, TV-PG, TV-14, etc. labels) 

  • “Ratings creep”
    This is a longstanding complaint: over time, the industry has gradually allowed more mature or boundary-pushing content under the same rating labels. What used to require a TV-14 or TV-MA rating now often slips into TV-PG or even lower kids’ ratings. Parents say the labels no longer reliably signal what’s actually in the show.

  •  Carr (and the parents he’s referencing) argue that writers and producers in the entertainment industry are inserting gender identity / transgender / gender non-binary themes into shows aimed at young children — and then rating those shows as perfectly appropriate for little kids (TV-Y or TV-Y7) with no warning or content descriptor at all.    The FCC’s own public notice (the one Carr is promoting in the post) explicitly spells this out:

    “controversial gender identity issues are being included or promoted in children’s programs without providing any disclosure or transparency to parents. Specifically, the industry guidelines… are rating shows with transgender and gender non-binary programming as appropriate for children and young children, and doing so without providing this information to parents.”

In short: Carr says the whole point of the ratings system was to give parents real power to decide. Right now, many parents feel the system is failing them on this particular topic because a show can have transgender characters, storylines about gender transitions, or non-binary identities and still get a clean “for young kids” rating with zero heads-up. That defeats the purpose of parental empowerment.

  •  These swaps are short-term, fully collateralized, and usually repaid with interest. They don’t require new U.S. taxpayer spending or money-printing in a way that fuels domestic inflation.
  •   U.S. allies get a financial safety net from Washington to handle the war’s shocks. Iran gets none — it’s under heavy sanctions, its oil exports are disrupted by the same Hormuz chaos, and its economy is isolated.
  • It makes it easier for the U.S. coalition to keep the pressure on. Allies can absorb higher energy costs and market volatility without begging for sanctions relief or cutting side deals with Iran.
  •   Iran sees that its strategy of disrupting energy flows isn’t fracturing the opposing bloc — the U.S. is actively cushioning the blow for its friends.
  •  Every time allies rely on dollar swaps instead of alternative currencies or financing, it reinforces Iran’s economic isolation.

  Iran suffers the fallout largely alone, while America’s partners get help to stay stable. 

 

The regime is running out of oil storage, money — and time.

Right now, the remnants of the Iranian regime are under the misimpression that Trump wants a deal more than they do. On Tuesday, they watched as Trump extended the ceasefire to give the “fractured” Iranian side time to “come up with a unified proposal” and took it as a sign that Trump wants to avoid a return to combat. Iran’s goal is clearly to drag out the negotiations as long as possible, believing the longer major combat operations are suspended, the less likely they are to resume. They are betting that Trump, under political and economic pressure at home, does not want to restart the war.

Trump needs to disabuse them of that notion. He has reportedly told Iran that it has three to five days to make a serious counteroffer. If it fails to do so, he should resume combat operations — starting with strikes targeting Iran’s recalcitrant leaders. If the Iranian regime is really “fractured” between a faction that wants a deal and a faction that does not, there is a simple solution: Kill the faction that does not.

If Iran continues to refuse his terms, Trump should give Cooper those final 14 days. He should maintain the blockade, strangling Iran economically, while the U.S. finishes the job militarily. Together with Israel, he should eliminate the Iranian leaders resisting a deal. He should execute Cooper’s plan to open the Strait of Hormuz by force to all traffic except Iranian ships. And then he should issue Iran’s remaining leaders a final ultimatum: Capitulate or the U.S. will destroy Kharg Island, through which 90 percent of Iran’s oil flows — delivering a permanent blow to the Iranian military, which depends on that revenue to sustain its power.
