Electric Vehicles Lead Major Car Maker to Report First Loss in Decades

  • Honda Motors reported its first annual loss in nearly 70 years, which came as a result of an emphasis on electric cars.
  • The Japan-based car company has been listed on the stock market since 1957, but the combination of electric vehicle bets and Trump trade policies led to its first-ever year in the red.
  • “EV demand has declined considerably, due to the rollback of environmental regulations in the U.S. and other factors,” Honda said in a statement, per a report from Fox Business.
  • The company faces $9 billion in restructuring costs because of the lackluster electric vehicle demand.

  • That was the operation President Donald Trump announced about helping ships get out of the Persian Gulf and transit through the Strait of Hormuz, in the face of potential threats from Iran. Then it was stopped, and we didn’t hear much about it. Turns out it appears to have been going on, in some measure, right under the nose of the Iranian regime, without letting it be known.

U.S. Central Command has guided around 70 commercial ships through the strait, traveling into and out of the Persian Gulf, in the last three weeks, one of the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss operational matters. The U.S. officials added that most of the vessels had turned off their transponders to avoid detection when going through the narrow waterway.

  •  They’re obviously not identifying what routes they are taking or how they are achieving it. But so much for the Iranian ability to stop them, if they got that many through. The U.S. guiding system obviously works.
  • So why is it now coming out with U.S. officials talking about it? Likely because the U.S. military has now identified the various issues that can arise, the right routes to use, and can more fully ensure safety. Now they can say more generally to the shipping community that it can be done because we’ve done it, which should help a return to normal shipping rates.
  • So it doesn’t sound like the Iranian regime is having a happy day, with the U.S. outwitting them in the Strait of Hormuz, and even Hezbollah going off script.
