- Some officials are signaling greater unease with big rate rises to fight inflation
- Federal Reserve officials are barreling toward another interest-rate rise of 0.75 percentage point at their meeting Nov. 1-2 and are likely to debate then whether and how to signal plans to approve a smaller increase in December.

- A three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the design of the CFPB violated the Constitution because it receives funding through the Federal Reserve, rather than appropriations legislation passed by Congress. Democrats established the structure when they created the CFPB in the 2010 Dodd-Frank law as a way to shield the bureau from political pressures that could impact its oversight of the finance industry.
- “Congress’s decision to abdicate its appropriations power under the Constitution, i.e., to cede its power of the purse to the Bureau, violates the Constitution’s structural separation of powers,” the judges wrote.
- The appeals court ruling marked the latest victory for the finance industry, which has fought for years in Congress and the courts to blunt the CFPB’s reach and limit its ability to police financial services. Republican lawmakers have also worked for years to stifle the CFPB and revamp its structure, arguing the agency lacks accountability.
- The Supreme Court in 2020 ruled that another provision of the agency’s structure — a single director who could only be fired for cause, rather than at will, by the president — violated the Constitution’s separation of powers.

Zelensky says Russia is preparing a terrorist attack on Kakhovka dam
- The Russian military is planning a terrorist attack on the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station in the Kherson region, claims Volodymyr Zelensky.
- “According to our information, the power units and the dam at Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station have been mined by Russian terrorists,” the Ukrainian president said during his address to the nation on the results of the 239th day of war.
- Early on Thursday, he spoke about the same issue via video at a European Council meeting in Brussels. According to Zelensky, the Kakhovka dam, which is controlled by the Russian army, holds a volume of around 18 million cubic meters of water (about 14.5 thousand acre-feet), and 80 settlements, including the city of Kherson, lie in the zone which will flood rapidly if the dam is blown up.
- Zelensky appealed to the global community to respond preemptively to a possible terrorist attack, and to send an international monitoring mission to the hydropower plant:
- Undermining the dam would mean a massive catastrophe. Of course, we understand that the occupiers are indifferent to what happens to Ukrainian territory. With this act of terrorism they could destroy, among other things, the possibility of supplying Crimea with water from the Dnipro. The North Crimean Canal will simply disappear if the Kakhovka dam is destroyed. If Russia is planning such a terrorist attack, if they’re seriously considering such a scenario, it means that the terrorists understand very clearly: it’s not only Kherson that they cannot hold, but also the entire south of our country, including Crimea.

The group started to chant “AOC has got to go” while playing bongo drums as AOC “danced” along to their chants. At one point the lights shut off and AOC was escorted out of the room. She returned once the lights were back on and could be heard saying “I’m not allowed to be in a room with the lights turned off”

- Most coverage would have you think this election is about inflation and gas prices. It isn’t.
- To say that the upcoming election is the most important in American history is a cliché at this point, more of a biannual tradition than an actual warning. The arguments made often sound ridiculous in retrospect — but there is a strong case for the 2022 midterms to be the most important election in American history.

President Donald Trump has reportedly agreed to the partisan Jan. 6 Committee’s subpoena request for him to testify before Congress. Trump would accept the subpoena and be glad to testify, he said, but only if he can do it on live television.
- J6 uses subpoenas before the election to get the trump supporters angry, they are using this right before the midterms to try to shift the voters, this will backfire
