USDA awarded the grant to Mighty Cricket Inc., a private firm that sells cricket flour, cricket protein powder and cricket oatmeal. The agency believes that using landfill waste to feed crickets could help the firm “procure cricket feed at lower cost than what is available on the market,” leading to savings that could then be passed along to the consumer.

USDA’s grant listing criticizes traditional animal farming for being too resource-intensive and too harsh on the environment.

“Conventional protein production poses a substantial strain on the ecosystem, requiring unsustainable quantities of water, land, and feed as inputs,” the grant description reads. The grant description also calls “conventional” farming a “significant source of greenhouse gas emissions.”

Housing Starts Collapsed In January – Biggest MoM Decline Since COVID Lockdowns

  • After single-family home starts plunged in December, analysts did not expect much of a bounce back in January as rates remain high and some regions were affected by weather.
  • Analysts were way off. Housing Starts puked 14.8% MoM in January (vs unchanged exp), but December’s 4.3% MoM decline was revised up to a 3.3% MoM rise. Building Permits also tumbled, down 1.5% MoM (vs +1.3% exp) and well down from the +1.8% MoM in December…

 

Multi-family permits cratered to their lowest since Oct 2020. Permits for one-family homes edged higher after rising consistently throughout 2023

And multi-family starts were even worse, plunging from 489k SAAR to 314k SAAR – the lowest since May 2020 (when the economy was closed)…

The government’s report showed housing starts fell in all four of the nation’s regions, led by the Midwest and Northeast. The number of single-family homes completed plunged to the lowest level since May 2020.

  • On Thursday, special counsel David Weiss charged a former FBI informant who claimed President Biden was bribed by Ukrainian oil and gas company Burisma. The indictment claims the informant lied about Biden’s alleged role in the business dealings.Alexander Smirnov, 43, was arrested on Thursday at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, per CNN.Smirnov has been accused in the indictment that his story to the FBI “was a fabrication, an amalgam of otherwise unremarkable business meetings and contacts that had actually occurred but at a later date than he claimed and for the purpose of pitching Burisma on the Defendant’s services and products, not for discussing bribes to [Joe Biden] when he was in office.”The informant, who has now been identified as Smirnov, provided testimony to House Republicans and their investigation into the Biden family’s alleged illegal foreign business dealings. He claimed that Burisma executives paid President Biden and his son Hunter Biden $5 million each to have a Ukrainian prosecutor fired who had been investigating Burisma at the time

Report: U.S. Carried Out Covert Cyberattack on Iranian Spy Ship 

  • Three U.S. officials have confirmed an operation to hack the computer systems of an Iranian spy ship, identified as the converted freighter Behshad. The ship is widely suspected of providing targeting information and intelligence to Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who have been launching missile and drone attacks on merchant shipping since November.
  • Iran denies that Behshad has any role in covert military operations, and insists that it is present purely for anti-piracy missions.
  • This week, three U.S. officials told NBC that American forces recently carried out a cyberattack targeting an Iranian vessel, which one of them identified as Behshad. The event occurred more than a week ago, and has only been disclosed on background. The operation was intended to interfere with Behshad’s targeting role in the Houthi attacks.
  • The U.S. has likely used cyberwarfare capabilities to target Iran before. The famous Stuxnet worm was perhaps the first major nation-state cyberattack, and it reportedly set back operations in Iran’s uranium enrichment program by targeting industrial control systems.   • A person convicted of “aggravated prostitution” faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Most of Tennessee’s prostitution occurs in the Memphis area.
  • Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division released a statement claiming the law targets HIV-infected individuals because of their “disability.” Yes, in the eyes of the Regime, having a deadly, infectious disease counts as a disability.
