Michigan’s $1.8 BILLION jobs initiative only created 602 jobs—that’s $3 MILLION per job: report

  • During her terms in office, Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer offered billions in taxpayer-funded subsidies to select companies. Overall, she authorized $6.9 billion in subsidies during her tenure. Of that, $2.7 billion was offered to just eight major projects. Of the $1.8 billion of that figure that has been spent so far, there have only been 602 jobs created, breaking down to about $3 million spent per job, according to a new report from the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.

    According to the report, the Whitmer administration said that the major subsidy projects would “create 20,595 jobs in Michigan. So far, these deals have created 602 jobs, just 3% of expectations. Of the $2.7 billion offered, $1.8 billion has been spent — transferred either to companies or to local economic development agencies.”

Trump Admin Asks Supreme Court to Block Migrant Releases Before Deportation
  • The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court on Friday to bar judges from releasing illegal migrants until the deportation process is completed.
  • In a filing, Solicitor General John Sauer called for the Supreme Court to clarify if illegal aliens “may be subject to mandatory ICE detention while their deportation proceedings play out,” according to Politico. The filing comes after the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, in May, rejected the Trump administration’s policy from July 2025 regarding illegal aliens being detained.
  • “Especially given the volume of cases involved, this Court should grant review and resolve this case as swiftly as practicable,” Sauer said in the filing, according to the outlet.

The Justice Department is asking the justices to sign off on a policy that has been overwhelmingly rejected by federal district court judges across the country, who have described it as a draconian violation of the law and constitutional due process rights. Judges have delivered more than 9,300 rulings against the administration’s unprecedented policy, which targets people who have resided in the U.S. for years and requires them to be detained without the opportunity for a bond hearing while their deportation proceedings are underway.

Despite the lopsided result in district courts, Sauer described an “untenable divide” at the appeals court level. Five appellate circuits have ruled on the issue, breaking 3-2 against the administration. A divide among appeals courts typically makes the Supreme Court more likely to intervene.

This is not a full peace treaty or immediate ceasefire enforcement. It is a framework agreement (a high-level outline with principles and a process) aimed at ending the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon. It seeks to:

  • Restore full Lebanese state sovereignty and control over southern Lebanon.
  • Disarm Hezbollah (and other non-state armed groups) and dismantle their military infrastructure.
  • Create conditions for a phased Israeli military redeployment/withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

Key provisions (drawn from the agreement text and official summaries):

  •  Israel maintains operational freedom and presence in its current southern Lebanon security zone (roughly the area south of the Litani River and along the border, shown in red on maps below) until Hezbollah is disarmed and no longer poses a threat to Israel.   •   Two initial “pilot zones” have been agreed upon.   • US Role and Support:
  • Facilitates a trilateral Military Coordination Group to oversee implementation.
  • Helps strengthen LAF capabilities against Hezbollah.
  • Provides/verifies support, with $100 million in humanitarian assistance (coordinated with the UN).
  • Mobilizes international partners for Lebanese reconstruction (while preventing funds from reaching Hezbollah-linked groups).
  •   No territorial ambitions by Israel in Lebanon. Both sides retain self-defense rights. Working groups will work toward a fuller peace agreement. The process is reciprocal and sequenced — progress by Lebanon on disarmament enables Israeli withdrawals.

 

  • Hezbollah was not a party to the agreement and has strongly rejected it. Leader Naim Qassem called it “null and void,” “humiliating, shameful, and a surrender of sovereignty,” accusing the Lebanese government of legitimizing Israeli occupation. Hezbollah says it will continue armed resistance.
  •  It pressures Lebanon to weaken Hezbollah’s grip on the south, creates a buffer/security zone for Israel in the meantime, and “boxes out” Iranian influence.

Kennedy Jr. and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services chief Mehmet Oz announced that roughly a million people had been enrolled in Obamacare plans with no Social Security number attached, the figure landed like an immigration scandal. It is something worse.
  • The number is not primarily a story about who slipped onto the rolls. It is a confession about how the rolls were built, and about an architecture the previous administration engineered to be impossible to audit.
  •  CMS identified, in its words, 1 million highly suspicious agent and broker assisted enrollments through HealthCare.gov with no Social Security number on the application and no premium being paid. Read that again. The common thread is not a border. It is a broker.
  •   Insurance agents and brokers earn between five and thirty dollars per member per month, and by 2024 they were steering 78 percent of all marketplace sign-ups, up from 55 percent three years earlier. Hand a salesman a commission for every warm body he enrolls, strip away the requirement that the body verify its own identity, and design the plan so the enrollee never receives a bill that might tip him off. What did anyone expect would happen? The program was not defrauded despite its rules. It was defrauded because of them.
  • The fraud left fingerprints, and the report lifts them cleanly. If a million people are enrolled in coverage they never sought, the simplest tell is that they never use it. Sure enough, 40 percent of enrollees in zero-premium cost-sharing plans filed no medical claims whatsoever in 2024, roughly double the rate for plans carrying even a token premium. People do not pay for insurance they forget they have, and they do not visit doctors under a policy they never knew existed.
  • The second fingerprint appears the moment a bill arrives. When phantom enrollees were automatically rolled into plans that finally charged a premium, the share who failed to pay jumped from a historical norm of 18 percent to roughly 50 percent across 2024 through 2026. A ghost cannot write a check. The brokers, meanwhile, had already collected.
  • CMS says it has already cleared about 2.9 million of them from the books while estimating that 2.6 million remain, the equivalent of roughly $10 billion a year siphoned from taxpayers between 2021 and 2024.
