Jerome Powell pushes back on Trump pressure, stressing Fed’s freedom
- Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell obliquely pushed back against President Donald Trump’s pressure to aggressively slash interest rates, quoting a predecessor’s insistence that the Fed must be “absolutely free” from politics.
- In a short speech introducing a film on former Chairman Marriner Eccles, Powell praised the legacy of Eccles, who headed the Fed from 1934 to 1948 and for whom the central bank’s headquarters is named.
- “Perhaps most importantly from my perspective as Fed Chair, he is responsible more than any other person for the fact that the United States today has an independent central bank — a central bank able to make decisions in the long-term best interest of the economy, without regard to the political pressures of the moment,” Powell said.
- Powell — who maintained his policy of never directly mentioning the president — noted Eccles‘ push for the Banking Act of 1935, “which strengthened the structural independence of the Federal Reserve,” as well as his role in separating government debt management from monetary policy.

- The prosecutor he got fired was leading a wide-ranging corruption probe into the natural gas firm Burisma Holdings that employed Biden’s younger son, Hunter, as a board member.
- The general prosecutor’s official file for the Burisma probe — shared with me by senior Ukrainian officials — shows prosecutors identified Hunter Biden, business partner Devon Archer and their firm, Rosemont Seneca, as potential recipients of money.
- Shokin said before he was fired as general prosecutor, he had made “specific plans” for the investigation that “included interrogations and other crime-investigation procedures into all members of the executive board, including Hunter Biden.”
- So as Biden’s 2020 campaign ramped up over the past year, Lutsenko — the Ukrainian prosecutor that Biden once hailed as a “solid” replacement for Shokin — began looking into what happened with the Burisma case that had been shut down.
- Lutsenko said, while reviewing the Burisma investigative files, he discovered “members of the Board obtained funds as well as another U.S.-based legal entity, Rosemont Seneca Partners LLC, for consulting services.”
- Lutsenko said some of the evidence he knows about in the Burisma case may interest U.S. authorities and he’d like to present that information to new U.S. Attorney General William Barr, particularly the vice president’s intervention.

The [DS] wrap up smear tactics has a specific pattern, lets start with Nancy Pelosi.
- Leak information to the Press
- Have the Press follow the leaks up a report
- Use the MSM report as confirmation to the leak
- Produce multiple complaints, of course none can be proved, but if there are multiple complaints it must be true
- Have former experts sign a letter supporting the entire propaganda story
- So lets take this strategy and use it,
- So what do we have, Schiff leaked the information to the MSM
- The MSM created a report on the whistlblower
- The Whistleblower complaint was released
- Trump countered with phone transcript, they never expected this, the plan just went south, but they were going to stop the plan
- Then we learned of another whistleblower, actually the attorney who is representing the whistleblowers says he has multiple whistleblowers he is representing
- Today we learn that you are never going to believe this but
- Roughly 90 intelligence officials, including the litany of former anti-Trump senior Obama officials, as well as some who served under Republican presidents, published an open letter in The Wall Street Journal late Sunday night, exuding their support for the unnamed whistleblowers.

The MSM is making seem like the impeachment inquiry is sending out subpoenas, they are not they are demand letters.
House Sends More Carefully Worded Impeachment Demand Letters (Not Subpoenas) – OMB and Pentagon…
- Chairman Adam Schiff, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence; Chairman Elijah E. Cummings, Committee on White House Oversight; Chairman Eliot L. Engel, House Committee on Foreign Affairs, continue sending carefully worded letters under the guise of ‘subpoenas’ today
- However, you’ll notice in these latest versions they are modifying: (#1) now they actually include attachments that would be “subpoenas”; yet they shift language to ‘subpoena schedules’. Why? Because (#2) the letters and subpoenas omit any penalty for non-compliance. They cannot assign a penalty because the letters do not carry judicial authority.Obviously Lawfare, instructing Pelosi’s group, realizes the larger American electorate has caught on to the impeachment word games. The “official impeachment inquiry” is all a one-party partisan ruse. Here’s the issue they cannot overcome.
- Yes, congress can issue subpoenas; however a congressional committee must meet three requirements for their investigative subpoenas to be “legally sufficient” or have “judicial authority”; meaning a subpoena that carries a legal penalty for non-compliance.
- First: “the committee’s investigation of the broad subject area must be authorized by its chamber;
- Second: “the investigation must pursue “a valid legislative purpose” but does not need to involve legislation and does not need to specify the ultimate intent of Congress;
- Third: the specific inquiries must be pertinent to the subject matter area that has been authorized for investigation.
- These “subpoenas” from the committees do not meet the first hurdle. The “impeachment inquiry” was not authorized by its chamber. The chamber for each committee is the full house of representatives. [Again, there are constitutional processes within impeachment.]
- none of these demand letters carry any penalty for non-compliance because Pelosi’s crew doesn’t want to engage the court system. In these latest letters they have retracted the ¹prior threats (example below) to use non-compliance as “evidence of obstruction” because it’s likely any “obstruction articles” would be easily challenged in court on the basis the underlying subpoena lacked judicial authority.
Pelosi appears to be waiting until all of the assembled evidence arrives at the Judiciary Committee before she will call for a full house vote to authorize the impeachment investigation. Again, manipulating the process.

So lets take this a step further, the house does not want the public to know what is really going on in the fake impeachment inquiry, remember they never had a vote, so they are holding the hearings in secret.
- There have so far been two hearings in the House Democrats’ effort to impeach President Trump over the Ukraine matter. Both have been held in secret. One was Thursday, the other Friday, and the public does not know what was said in either. Two more are scheduled for this week and will be held behind closed doors, too.
- Last week’s sessions weren’t just secret. They were super-secret. The first hearing, in which the witness was former Ukraine special envoy Kurt Volker, was held in what is known as a SCIF, which stands for sensitive compartmented information facility. It is a room in the Capitol built to be impervious to electronic surveillance so that lawmakers can discuss the nation’s most important secrets without fear of discovery.
- The second hearing, in which Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson testified, was also held in the SCIF.
- Were highly classified matters discussed at the Volker and Atkinson hearings? Apparently not. Neither interview was classified. And even if some classified information were involved, it would be astonishing for Democrats to believe they could attempt to remove the president on the basis of information that is not available to the public.
- The secrecy, decreed by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, has taken Republicans by surprise. Some are now speaking out about it.
- “Adam Schiff is running an impeachment inquiry secretly, behind closed doors, and he’s making up the rules as he goes along,” said Republican Rep. John Ratcliffe.
- “These proceedings should be public,” added Republican Rep. Jim Jordan. “Democrats are trying to remove the president 13 months before an election based on an anonymous whistleblower … and they’re doing it all in a closed-door process.”
- “This is nothing more or less than a show trial for the media,” said Rep. Devin Nunes, ranking Republican on the Intelligence Committee, noting that with secrecy rules in place, the public knows only what is leaked to the press. “The Democrats leak what they want to leak to build narratives.”
- Of course, that is not how Democrats would describe it. For his part, Schiff has said that secrecy is needed to protect the identity of the CIA whistleblower who started the entire process.
- the law says: “The inspector general shall not disclose the identity of the employee without the consent of the employee, unless the inspector general determines that such disclosure is unavoidable during the course of the investigation …” First, the inspector general is the only official specifically prohibited from disclosing the identity. And second, even if the statute’s use of “investigation” refers to the inspector general’s probe, the fact is, the whistleblower is now part of an impeachment proceeding. Disclosure is, in fact, unavoidable; Democrats cannot keep entire hearings secret, keep vital information away from the American people, in the name of preserving the anonymity of a whistleblower.

- The President filed an emergency appeal and the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Monday handed Trump a win granted him a stay to delay the release of 8 years of his tax returns.
- The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit granted President Donald Trump a last-minute reprieve in his effort to prevent New York prosecutors from obtaining his tax records.

As a result of the stay, Mazars USA, the president’s tax preparer, doesn’t have to hand over the documents by 1 p.m. Monday, as was required. A panel of appellate judges will hear the case on an expedited basis and then issue a ruling.

REPORT: Turkish War Planes Strike Kurdish Targets in Northern Syria
