To put this into perspective, the entire world has roughly 1.57 TRILLION barrels of proven crude oil reserves. In other words, the US is set to control ~7.1% of all proven oil reserves in the world under this new agreement with Venezuela. At ~111 billion barrels, the US would be almost exactly in-line with the United Arab Emirates, which has 113 billion barrels of proven crude reserves, and it would exceed Kuwait’s 102 billion barrels. Assuming the agreement is structured as outlined in President Trump’s announcement, the implications for global energy markets will be enormous. We will publish more in-depth analysis soon.

None of these measures are perfect, but they all tell a similar story. Inflation is running above our 2% target.” No rate cut coming. And then the indictment of his predecessors: “The responsibility for 65 months of sustained elevated inflation sits squarely with the central bank and that’s where it belongs.” Sixty-five months. That’s Powell. That’s the tail end of Yellen’s influence. Warsh is standing at Jackson Hole blaming the institution he now leads for the inflation that created the political opening for everything Treasury is doing. “A quieter Fed, a more purposeful Fed in its communications is better able to meet its objectives.”
The Fed is voluntarily shrinking its public footprint. Less talking. Less guidance. Less market-moving commentary.
What he DIDN’T say is louder than what he said. No mention of Treasury. No mention of Bessent. No mention of the new Accord. No mention of stablecoins, digital assets, bank chartering, yield curve management, sanctions, AML enforcement, or any of the fourteen domains Treasury has occupied. He doesn’t need to mention them.
The speech is the Accord in practice. Warsh just stood at Jackson Hole and defined the Fed’s job as: set the overnight rate, watch inflation, shut up. Everything else everything Treasury is doing goes unmentioned because it’s no longer the Fed’s business.
The “Eighty Years Three Months” post said the Fed Chair was installed to negotiate the institution’s surrender. He didn’t negotiate it at Jackson Hole. He performed it. A twenty-nine minute speech about one interest rate and the discipline required to set it correctly. That’s the job now. One lever. One mandate. One man who volunteered to make it so.
If markets and Fed communications have been leaning toward a rate hike, a decision to hold rates steady—or especially to cut—is a dovish surprise. Markets react to the surprise relative to what was priced in, not just the raw decision.
Stocks typically rally on a dovish surprise. Classic estimates find that an unanticipated 25-basis-point easing is associated with roughly a 1% rise in broad indexes on the day, mainly because lower rates reduce the discount rate applied to future corporate cash flows and ease financial conditions.

That grabbing of American cash becomes more galling when you look at the rest of Canada’s top-10 trading relationships, in which it runs a trade deficit with every nation except the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
In fact, if it wasn’t ripping the United States off for $150 billion a year, Canada would run a net trade deficit with the world, meaning that each year it would export wealth and become poorer and poorer.
But it takes our money to paper over its weakness. If it wasn’t siphoning off America’s prosperity through unfair trade practices, Canada would fall on its financial face.

And when you look at who was running the Hong Kong company, a fourth country shows up. Here’s the pipeline. Iran’s Pedram Pirouzan Exchange House also known as Opal Exchange needed access to the international financial system. Iran’s own banks are sanctioned. Its own financial institutions are cut off. So it did what every sanctioned entity does: it built a relay network through countries that aren’t sanctioned. Step one: incorporate a front company in Hong Kong. Kameng Trading Ltd, registered in July 2024 at New Mandarin Plaza in Tsim Sha Tsui. One of the world’s busiest financial districts, inside Chinese territory. Step two: put a non-Iranian in charge.
The sole shareholder and director is Musthafa Azheekkodantakath an Indian passport holder with a correspondence address in Dubai. Step three: use the front company to access the international banking system on behalf of the Iranian exchange house. Hong Kong has global banking connections. Dubai has global banking connections. An Indian national operating across both raises fewer red flags than an Iranian one. Iranian money. Hong Kong shell. Indian operator. Dubai address. Four countries in one pipeline, designed to make sanctioned money look clean. Treasury found it. Treasury designated it. One week. Now look at the map.
On Monday, Operation Economic Outcast hit Iran directly digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, shipping. General licenses suspended. On Wednesday, Treasury went after the UAE banking corridor the financial gateway where Iranian money touches the global system. The message to UAE banks: choose us or choose them.
On Friday, Treasury went after the Hong Kong relay the front company that gave Iran access through Chinese territory. And the Indian national operating the whole thing?
The Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act which passed the Senate 86 to 11 this month includes a 100% tariff trigger on any nation that helps Tehran. India is one of the largest buyers of Iranian oil. Dubai for banking.
Hong Kong for front companies. An Indian national as the operator. That’s the three-node relay network Iran built to survive sanctions. And Treasury hit all three nodes in one week.
Secretary Bessent: “Treasury promised to sever every economic lifeline Tehran has left and finally end the threat of the Iranian regime.” Every lifeline. Not just the Iranian end. The middle. The relays. The front companies in friendly jurisdictions. The bankers in Dubai. The shell companies in Hong Kong. The operators with non-Iranian passports who make the whole thing work. You can sanction Iran all day long. It doesn’t matter if the relay network is still running.
What matters is cutting the relays and that means going into the UAE, going into Hong Kong, and putting an Indian national on the SDN list. That’s what happened this week. Not one action against Iran. A systematic dismantling of the infrastructure Iran built to survive the last round of sanctions.

Tehran has loaded about 260,000 barrels of oil per day for export at its ports so far this month, which is a decline of more than 80% compared to the 1.7 million bpd in August 2025, CNBC reported, citing data from the trade intelligence firm Kpler.
On July 14, Trump reimposed the blockade in retaliation for Iran attacking oil tankers transiting the strait. Iran’s crude exports are down 70% in August from 893,000 bpd last month.
The exports are a crucial revenue stream for Iran, and the Trump administration says the blockade will decimate the country’s economy, forcing it to capitulate to U.S. demands, Bob McNally, president of Rapidan Energy, told CNBC.
