They see the anti-system movement and they cannot stop it and they know it. The only way to push their agenda is to push events to scare the people. EU dips further into emergency gas reserves

  • Cold weather has caused a surge in energy consumption in the bloc
  • Supplies of natural gas in the EU’s underground storage facilities continue to shrink as cold weather is forcing more fuel to be used for heating, Interfax reported on Tuesday.  
  • Gas inventories in the EU, one of the key indicators for the global market, fell to 85% full in early January after the bloc reported that storages had reached an all-time high of almost 98% in October.   
  • Renewable energy generation, such as from wind turbines, dropped in December, covering only about 15% of the EU’s energy needs, the data showed, and is expected to decline further amid clear weather and weak winds, which will further boost demand for gas.   
  • Meanwhile, Russian energy major Gazprom continues to supply gas for transit to Western and Central Europe through Ukraine via the only remaining gas-pumping station, Sudzha. 
  • According to the outlet, the Ukrainian gas transmission system operator said it had received an application from Gazprom to transit 42.4 million cubic meters through Sudzha for Tuesday. This is the highest volume of gas that can technically be pumped via this entry point, according to Gazprom.

  • Factory output dropped in November amid persisting economic headwinds
  • German industrial production dropped for the sixth straight month in November, likely indicating the country entered a recession in the final quarter of 2023, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing data from Germany’s Federal Statistical Office.
  • Production slid 0.7% from October, driven by a slowdown in output of capital goods and intermediate goods as German factories struggle amid a downturn in global demand, particularly from China, high interest rates, and expensive energy, the figures showed.
  • The industrial output figures come a day after a report was released showing that German factory orders rose much less than anticipated in November. Orders were up by only 0.3%, well below analyst expectations of a 1.1% increase.

  • Inflation accelerated more than December, marking the thirty-third consecutive month with annual prices rising significantly faster than the two percent target seen as healthy by the Federal Reserve.
  • The consumer-price index, the Labor Department’s broad measurement of what consumers pay for goods and services, rose 3.4 in December from a year earlier.
  • Economists were expecting a year-0ver-year increase of 3.2 percent. The 12-month gain was 3.1 percent in November.
  • Compared with the prior month, the CPI was up 0.3 percent, an acceleration from the gain of 0.2 percent in November and faster than the 0.2 percent forecast.

US SEC approves bitcoin ETFs in watershed for crypto market

  •  The U.S. securities regulator on Wednesday approved the first U.S.-listed exchange traded funds (ETFs) to track bitcoin, in a watershed for the world’s largest cryptocurrency and the broader crypto industry.
  • The Securities and Exchange Commission said it approved 11 applications, including from BlackRock (BLK.N), Ark Investments/21Shares (ABTC.S), Fidelity, Invesco (IVZ.N) and VanEck, despite warnings from some officials and investor advocates that the products carried risks. 
  • Most of the products are expected to begin trading Thursday, issuers said, kicking off a fierce competition for market share.
  • A decade in the making, the ETFs are a game-changer for bitcoin, offering investors exposure to the world’s largest cryptocurrency without directly holding it. They provide a major boost for a crypto industry beset by scandals.
  • “It’s a huge positive for the institutionalization of bitcoin as an asset class,” said Andrew Bond, managing director and senior fintech analyst at Rosenblatt Securities.

  • The gun controls in Oregon’s Ballot Measure 114 (BM 114) were permanently blocked via a General Judgment entered January 9, 2024, by Harney County Circuit Court Judge Robert Raschio.
  • Raschio initially blocked the gun controls just days before they were to go into effect.
  • Litigation continued but ended on January 9, 2024, when Raschio solidified the permanent injunction against BM 114, noting, “…IT IS HEREBY DECLARED that Ballot Measure 114 is facially unconstitutional in all of its applications under Oregon Constitution, Article l, section 27; and IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that Defendants and Defendants’ Agents are permanently enjoined from enforcing all provisions of Ballot Measure 14.”

India Flexes Muscle in Red Sea, Sends Ten Warships to Deter Houthis
    • India declined to join President Joe Biden’s “Operation Prosperity Guardian” security initiative for the Red Sea, but senior Indian Navy officials said they had dispatched ten warships on Monday to deter the Iran-backed Houthi terrorists of Yemen and other pirates.
    • “Indian warships are deployed all over the region to enhance surveillance and deterrence against the twin threats from pirates and drone strikes. The aim is to help stabilize the situation in the Arabian Sea and promote net maritime security,” an Indian naval officer told the Times of India (TOI) on Monday.
    • TOI reported India has dispatched three more guided-missile destroyers plus two frigates to join the INS Chennai, the guided-missile destroyer that foiled a hijacking attempt by pirates off the coast of Somalia on Thursday. The Indian Navy said the incident, combined with a hijacking and drone attack in December, made it clear that threats were moving closer to India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

  • Schools nationwide remained closed well into the second year of the pandemic as a result of the social distancing guidelines, which were disputed by both research studies and other health officials.
  • “It never struck me that six feet was particularly sensical in the context of mitigation,” Dr. Ashish Jha, the dean of the Brown University School of Public Health who served as President Biden’s COVID response coordinator for 15 months, told the New York Times in March 2021.

  • If it’s “unknown”, how do they know it’s going to be 20x as deadly? Do they plan to release another pathogen for this election season? The public are already conditioned and mail-in voting would be easy to implement, opening the door for fraud once again.
  • I don’t know what their plan is, but they have to do something soon. If the status quo remains, Trump will win. Do they go back to the mail-in voting play? Or do they go a different route?

  • A new development in Ohio signals that Gov. Mike DeWine’s effort to protect “gender-affirming care” for children and allow “transgender girls” to take part in girls’ and women’s sports in the state, might fail. The Ohio House voted Wednesday to override the governor’s prior veto of legislation, which in part prohibits the use of puberty blockers, hormone treatments, and surgery for children suffering from gender dysphoria.
  • The move comes amid a national debate over whether these treatments should be used on children who are too young to make decisions about their gender.

The Ohio House has voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto against Ohio House Bill 68 in a 65-28 vote. This bill would ban transgender minors from receiving gender-affirming medical care and prevent transgender girls from taking part in girls’ and women’s sports.

The Ohio Senate will vote on whether to override the veto on Jan. 24. Legislators need 60% of the vote in both houses to override the governor’s veto.

  • According to Attorney Ty Clevenger, if elected prosecutors in Georgia are too squeamish or biased to go after Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis or her lover Nathan Wade, there are other options.
  • A private citizen can ask a superior court judge to sign an arrest warrant or he/she could take the case directly before a grand jury.

Clevenger explained the scenario in a trio of tweets.

  • Castro operated a virtual tax preparation business that deceitfully inflated tax refunds for clients, The Hill reported.
  • Castro was the proprietor of Castro & Company LLC, a digital tax preparation firm with establishments in Orlando, Mansfield, and Washington, D.C., per WFAA.
  • According to court documents, Castro promised significantly higher refunds than other tax preparers and often proposed to split the extra refund with taxpayers. To achieve these larger refunds, he reportedly created false deductions and submitted them without the taxpayers’ knowledge.

     

  • Evidence of Castro’s fraudulent activities surfaced when an undercover officer in 2018, who had previously been quoted a $373 refund by a reputable tax preparer, was promised a $6,007 refund by Castro. The tax forms filed by Castro contained nearly $30,000 in fraudulently claimed deductions.
  • Outside his tax business, Castro, a GOP presidential candidate himself albeit a long-shot. He was born on the U.S. military base in Landstuhl, Germany and lives in Texas.
