Problem … Commerce … depends on trading value for value … we need currency, whether digital or otherwise … I can not go into a big box store and ask for an item and tell them I have a bucket of milk or freshly caught fish to trade for that item … Barter works only in a very simple society … Even Bit coin depended on currency … (What did you use to buy bit coin??) If value is only electronic bits, an evil actor can steal or shut that account down … We need the gold standard to hold the value of the paper/cash … which means we need a trusted party … There were bad actors even during the Renaissance when jewelers were used to hold the gold because they had secure safes but then the jewelers issued more paper than the value of gold because they thought no one would ask for the gold back (That’s why Nixon went off the gold standard)
What we have is a crisis in honesty, greed, trust, etc due to human nature
