The U.S. auto industry is nominally still privately owned, but it is slowly becoming a de facto state-directed utility. That’s the meaning of the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed new vehicle-emissions standards Wednesday that will force-feed the production of electric vehicles, whether or not consumers want them.
The EPA is using its authority under the Clean Air Act to regulate tailpipe pollutants. But make no mistake this isn’t about clean air. This is about forcing auto makers to produce more EVs that consumers will have no choice but to buy since there will be few gas-powered vehicles left.
The EPA lacks the legal authority to mandate EVs, but it will do so indirectly by setting CO2 emissions standards for 2027 through 2032. The standards are so strict that auto makers must electrify their fleets to meet them. Under the proposed rules, EVs would account for about two-thirds of light-duty vehicle sales in 2032, up from a mere 6% or so last year.
Auto makers such as Ford and Stellantis have recently announced layoffs owing to rising EV costs. They are shifting investment to EVs from internal-combustion engines, meaning fewer gas-powered cars for sale with higher prices. Gas-powered cars are subsidizing EVs, which aren’t profitable though they cost 10% to 40% more than alternatives.

Online grocery prices continued to rise by double-digits in March, as inflation continues to bite.
The March CPI report projected that food prices would increase by 7.5 percent in 2023, particularly for nine additional food categories, which have experienced consistent growth since last year.
The category expected to see the largest surge in prices is eggs, which saw an estimated rise of 29.6 percent, after taking into consideration the volatility of the industry.
Costs are expected to rise for poultry by 3.4 percent, dairy products by 6.4 percent, fats and oils by 15.4 percent, processed fruits and vegetables by 11.4 percent, sugar based products by 11.1 percent, cereals and bakery products by 11.7 percent, nonalcoholic beverages by 10.7 percent, and other foods by 8.5 percent.

Federal Reserve economists believe that recent banking turmoil will trigger a mild recession later this year, a potentially ominous sign for President Joe Biden as he heads into an election campaign.
Staff members at the central bank, who brief policymakers before interest rate decisions, had long expected GDP growth to slow this year in the wake of the Fed’s fight against inflation. But last month they upped the odds of a downturn, according to the minutes of the Fed’s March 21-22 meeting.
Just a couple of weeks before the meeting, two regional lenders — Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank — collapsed after depositors pulled out billions of dollars in cash, sending tremors throughout the industry.
Their projection was for “a mild recession starting later this year, with a recovery over the subsequent two years,” according to the minutes, released Wednesday. That would spark a jump in unemployment. They estimated the economy would fully recover by 2025.
Ailing 89-year-old Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) issued a statement Wednesday night in response to calls for her resignation by Democrats concerned their efforts to remake the federal judiciary has stalled this year due to her prolonged battle with shingles. The statement said Feinstein plans to return to the Senate at some point but asked Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to temporarily replace her spot on the Judiciary Committee until she returns. A Schumer spokesman said he would seek a Senate vote on that next week.

The former top FBI agent for counterintelligence in New York has been charged with a former Soviet diplomat with violating U.S. sanctions on Russia by providing services to the oligarch Oleg Deripaska.
Charles McGonigal also was charged Monday in Washington in connection with accepting $225,000 in cash — while working at the FBI — from a former employee of a foreign intelligence service.

House Judiciary Committee chair Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) subpoenaed Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chair Lina Khan on Wednesday in an effort to obtain documents and communications related to the FTC’s investigation of Twitter.
Jordan alleged in a cover letter accompanying the subpoena that the FTC overstepped its bounds by making “inappropriate and burdensome” demands of Twitter after Elon Musk took ownership of the company last year.
Jordan said the subpoena was necessary for the committee to conduct oversight of the FTC’s actions because Khan’s compliance with his prior requests for documents and communications on the matter had been “woefully insufficient.”

The Pentagon believes the apparent leak of classified documents came from an insider, while a person who claims to have known the source of the leak described a young man who worked on a military base and spilled secrets to impress his compatriots on a private online chat platform, according to media reports.
A person identified by others who knew him as “OG” began posting hundreds of photos of classified documents on a private Discord server where OG functioned as an administrator and claimed to access the information from his job on a military base, two members told The Washington Post on condition of anonymity to discuss the matter while the FBI is conducting a criminal investigation. While the U.S. government has not honed in on a single suspect, the Pentagon, which has also initiated a separate internal probe, believes an individual with direct access to the material may be responsible for the massive intelligence leak, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

However, the Y/Y pace of core inflation rose M/M for the first time since Sept 2022, and this is what the Fed cares most about (which means Powell and his colleagues will be stubborn in pushing back against any talk of rate cuts). While this CPI is bullish for stocks, we think the Q1 earnings season will matter much more for the S&P.”

But still-elevated core prices show inflation remains sticky, and recent OPEC+ production cuts suggest the good news on headline inflation is likely to be short-lived. A strong disinflationary push is expected from shelter over the summer, but given ongoing strength in the labor market and OPEC+’s cuts — as well as pressure from labor-intensive services industries — we still expect the Fed to hike rates by 25 basis points when it meets next month.”
Bloomberg Markets Live, Cameron Crise:
“US headline inflation came in moderately under expectations, though the more important core figure looked largely in line with economists’ forecasts. The monthly 0.1% rise in headline and 0.4% were both “low” — eg, they rounded up to those thresholds — so it probably makes sense that markets are deriving a bit of comfort from the figures. Services inflation excluding rent of shelter was unchanged on the month, and the core version of that index was up 0.25%, which offers up some comfort that the trend in underlying inflation is tilting in a more comfortable direction. As such, it might be reasonable to conclude that the Fed will adopt a wait and see approach in its next meeting, which would effectively end the tightening cycle. That conclusion is still pending today’s minutes, however, so it may well be the case that the initial thrust lower in yields loses momentum soon.”

The interest rate hikes over the past year have negatively impacted banks, influencing public economic sentiment.
The IMF’s Spring Meetings this year saw the announcement of the organization’s own, “international central bank digital currency” called the Universal Monetary Unit (UMU, aka Unicoin).
The IMF said in a statement that UMU functions like a CBDC and is a legal and global money commodity. The purpose of this particular iteration of a CBDCs is to make sure banking regulations are enforced, as well as to protect “the financial integrity of the international banking system.”
This currency will be used by banks via SWIFT codes and bank accounts linked to a UMU digital wallet.
The scheme is supposed to allow for digital cross-border payments modeled after SWIFT, and promises best wholesale exchange rates of settlement currencies and real-time settlement, “while bypassing the correspondent banking system.”
Dianne Feinstein’s absence from the Senate is holding up Joe Biden’s judicial confirmations.
Feinstein, 89, has been MIA since she was hospitalized for shingles last month.
The California senator’s absence from the Senate Judiciary Committee has the panel deadlocked at 10-10.
It is unclear when Feinstein will return Washington.

Mike McCormick says he was with current national security adviser Jake Sullivan — then a Biden aide — in the press cabin of Air Force Two en route to Kyiv on April 21, 2014, as he outlined how the world’s wealthiest country would help the deeply corrupt post-Soviet state build its gas industry.
McCormick, who worked more than a decade at the White House, told The Post this week he believes the timeline of events demonstrates Joe Biden was using his position to help his son’s foreign business interests.
McCormick tells The Post that he wants to testify before the federal grand jury in Delaware considering charges against Hunter — saying he has relevant information that the FBI ignored
“They’ve been looking at Hunter Biden, but this ties Joe Biden and [Sullivan] into promoting a kickback scheme with Ukraine,” he said. “It’s the timeline that does it.”
McCormick provided The Post screenshots of an online FBI tip submission form that he says he completed in February. He has yet to hear back.
“Joe Biden committed crimes in Ukraine in a conspiracy with [current national security adviser] Jake Sullivan,” he added. “I’m a witness to that happening.”
The FBI and the US Attorney’s Office in Delaware did not respond to requests for comment.

National Public Radio (NPR) quit Twitter on Wednesday after Elon Musk’s Twitter labeled the outlet “government funded media.”
Twitter initially labeled the outlet’s account “state-affiliated media,” a designation similar to that given to outlets affiliated with Russia and China. The site then changed NPR’s label to “government funded media” April 8 after the outlet altered its bio to describe itself as an “independent news organization committed to informing the public about the world around us.”
The outlet announced it will “no longer be active” on Twitter because it said the site “falsely” implied its is not “editorially independent.”

Congressman Jim Jordan has informed the nation that despite the protestations to the contrary by Attorney General Merrick Garland, at least one FBI employee he knows of was tasked with monitoring Catholic Churches to gather intelligence on domestic terrorism.
As reported by The Daily Wire, internal documents released by House Judiciary Committee confirm that FBI leadership strategized around the use of Catholic churches as “new avenues for tripwire and source development.”
Republican Arkansas Gov. Sarah Sanders signed a bill Tuesday to stop criminals in prison for rape, first-degree murder, human trafficking and some other felony offenses committed after 2024 from being released early.
The Protect Arkansas Act will make those who commit any of 24 felonies including rape, aggravated robbery and child pornography possession ineligible for parole and require people incarcerated for a variety of other felony crimes like manslaughter and fentanyl delivery committed in 2025 or later to serve at least 85% of their court-assigned sentences. Sanders signed the act surrounded by law enforcement personnel, and tweeted, “The failed public safety status quo ends today in Arkansas.”

The Democratic National Committee is cutting ties with lawyer Marc Elias, who heavily pushed the discredited Steele dossier that sought to link the former president to Russia falsely.
Elias, who has represented the DNC since 2009, has had several disagreements with the committee, according to sources who spoke with PunchBowl News. Elias Law Group, his firm founded in 2021, works on behalf of many Democratic lawmakers and entities, such as the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, records show.
Elias was general counsel for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and commissioned the Trump-Russia dossier. The lawyer hired the opposition research firm Fusion GPS, which, in turn, brought on British ex-spy Christopher Steele in 2016. Steele was offered “up to $1 million” in the run-up to the 2016 election by the FBI to prove the dossier’s allegations against Trump but did not get the money due to lack of evidence, FBI supervisory analyst Brian Auten testified in October 2022.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. The fuller record of her orders as a trial judge, detailed here for the first time, undercuts the White House’s and Senate Democrats’ argument that her sentences were within the “normal range” or “mainstream” of child porn cases, as they try to defend the Supreme Court nod against growing allegations she is soft on crime.
Jackson, 51, who tried the cases as an Obama appointee from 2013 to 2021, was nominated earlier this year by President Biden, who pledged during the campaign to put the first “black woman” on the high bench. The Senate will vote on her confirmation next week.
In July 2020, Jackson gave the bare minimum sentence to a defendant convicted of distributing images and videos of infants being sexually abused, and who had boasted of molesting his 13-year-old cousin, even though she knew the defendant refused “to take full responsibility” for his crimes, a transcript reveals.

The Department of Justice has consistently turned a blind eye to compelling evidence of Biden family corruption, even as it continues to cook up charges against former president Donald Trump in a blatant case of election interference.
RealClearInvestigation’s Paul Sperry has found in Justice Dept. documents that presidential son Hunter Biden’s Chinese business partner, Chi Ping Ho, not only “doled out international bribes, but trafficked arms, including grenade launchers and anti-tank missiles.”
As Sperry recounts, the Ho-Hunter connection was buried in court documents. But the DOJ refrained from prosecuting either Hunter Biden or his brother James Biden as unregistered foreign agents.
In 2016-2017, the evidence shows, the FBI raided the offices and intercepted the communications of Chi Ping “Patrick” Ho, a Chinese national suspected of espionage even as he was negotiating business deals with former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter and brother James.
DOJ later used information obtained from the searches and wiretaps – which included conversations with the current President’s son and brother – to convict Ho of bribery and money laundering, as part of a separate corruption case involving United Nations officials. But it declined to tap into its trove of evidence – including “over 100,000 emails” – to explore the connections between Ho and the Bidens, who received millions of dollars from Ho and a Chinese intelligence front and discussed sharing office space.
A federal database shows the Bidens failed to register as foreign agents while engaged in activities on behalf of CEFC, a state-owned entity suspected of being a front for Chinese intelligence. Federal anti-spying laws require anyone acting as a lobbyist for a foreign power to register with the Justice Department under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).
The DOJ did not prosecute either Biden family member for potential violations of FARA for representing the interests of the Chinese.

In a message to Leavitt, Facebook accused the spokeswoman of maintaining a page that “goes against our community standards.” Following an appeal of this decision, Facebook informed her that it had scheduled her page for deletion.

Washington will join nine other states and Washington, D.C. in passing an assault weapons ban
Lawmakers in Washington state have passed a bill that would prohibit the sale, manufacture and import of assault weapons in the state.
“Both chambers of the Washington State Legislature have now approved a historic ban on the sale of assault weapons in Washington state,” Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson said in a press releaseSaturday shortly after Democrats in the state Senate successfully pushed through H.B. 1240.
The assault weapon ban passed the Senate by a vote of 27-21 and will now head back to the House since it was amended in the Senate. The bill will then go to the desk of Washington’s Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee who is expected to sign it.
The difficulty of training and massing the necessary troops, as well as a serious shortage of ammunition and military equipment, will probably keep the Kiev regime from attaining the goals for their much-hyped ‘spring offensive’.

Cybersecurity experts aren’t surprised by the revelation contained within a package of leaked U.S. intelligence documents suggesting Russian-backed hackers successfully gained access to Canada’s natural gas distribution network.
But they said there’s a huge difference between gaining access to a company’s network or servers and actually disrupting Canada’s energy supply or causing injury or property damage.
White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby says stories about the apparent leaked Pentagon intelligence documents have “no business” being published.
“Without confirming the validity of the documents, this is information that has no business in the public domain,” Kirby told reporter Monday at a White House press briefing. “It has no business, if you don’t mind me saying, on the pages of — front-pages of newspapers or on television. It is not intended for public consumption, and it should not be out there.”
Kirby also said that the government is working to determine the validity of the documents that have been published on social media since last month. The leak may be the largest breach of classified intelligence materials since former National Security Agency contractor and accused U.S. spy Edward Snowden published highly sensitive information in 2013.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday called for the Biden administration to brief senators on the leak of a set of highly classified documents about the Ukraine war.
A Schumer spokesperson announced the request. No date or time has been set yet for the briefing. The Senate is in recess and will return next week.
The leaked documents include those warning of weaknesses in Ukraine’s defenses, ammunition shortfalls and weaknesses in air defense, The Washington Post reported over the weekend.

Former President Donald Trump will head back to New York City to face questioning Thursday in a civil fraud lawsuit just over one week after pleading not guilty to 34 counts of felony fraud in a separate criminal case.
Attorney General Letitia James, who Trump has heavily criticized in the past, will question the former president. James has accused Trump and the Trump organization of manipulating asset values. James also is going after his children — Donald Jr., Eric and Ivanka — arguing that they should not be allowed to be officers or directors of any corporation registered or licensed in New York.
The former president will head to New York City from Florida and will likely return the same day.
As reported by America First Legal, a judicial watchdog, “records obtained from our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Mar-a-Lago raid further confirm that the FBI obtained access to these records through a ‘special access request’ from the Biden White House on behalf of the DOJ.”
The details, themselves, are shocking, as AFL noted in its press release:

Furthermore, the revelations mean that the National Archives misled Congress in its role in the FBI raid, which is tantamount to election interference.
This stunning revelation suggests that NARA was misleading Congress about the White House’s role in the shocking raid of President Trump’s home, and the fact that the Biden White House was acting “on behalf of” the DOJ raises significant legal concerns.
The special access statute authorizes special access requests to an incumbent president only when the records in question are needed for “the conduct of current business” of the White House. Providing documents to the DOJ for purposes of a criminal investigation is not the “current business” of the White House.
Accordingly, America First Legal is demanding NARA turn over records related to the Biden White House’s involvement in the politically motivated raid of President Trump’s home.

American consumers continued to pile on debt in February, but the pace of borrowing slowed significantly, another sign the economy could be heading toward a recession.
Overall, consumer debt grew by $15.3 billion in February, a 3.8% annual increase, according to the latest data from the Federal Reserve. That compares with an upwardly revised 19.5 billion increase in January.
Americans now owe a record $4.82 trillion in consumer debt.
The Federal Reserve consumer debt figures include credit card debt, student loans, and auto loans, but do not factor in mortgage debt. When you include mortgages, US households are buried under more than $16.9 trillion in debt. Household debt charted the biggest increase in two decades in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Credit card debt grew at a much slower pace in February, in line with the drop in retail sales.
To put the numbers into perspective, the annual increase in 2019, prior to the pandemic, was 3.6%. It’s pretty clear that Americans are still heavily relying on credit cards to make ends meet.
Americans now owe a record $1.22 trillion in revolving debt.
The bigger problem is the double whammy of rising debt and rising interest rates.
Average credit card interest rates eclipsed the record high of 17.87% months ago. The average annual percentage rate (APR) currently stands at 20.11%.
Does this indicate Americans are getting close to the end of their ropes?
So, what happens when consumers max out those credit cards? How will they make ends meet? How will it impact an economy that relies on borrowing and spending to limp along? And how will the Fed slay price inflation without popping the massive debt bubble?
Finally, expect delinquencies to rise as a larger percentage of consumers, 10.87% vs 10.63% in prior month, expect to not be able to make minimum debt payment over the next three months.
Median inflation expectations increased by 0.5 percentage point at the one-year-ahead timeframe to 4.7%, the first increase in the series since October 2022. Median inflation expectations for the three-year-ahead horizon edged up 0.1 pp to 2.8%.

The so-called “excess compensation tax” comes from SB 5767, sponsored by State Senators Christine Rolfes and Emily Randall. It would pose a 7.5% “excise tax” on hospital administrator jobs that Democrats deem overpaid. The bill defines “excess compensation” as one that exceeds 10 times the average annual wage of workers statewide, as published by the Employment Security Department. The tax revenue would be used to “advance health equity” and fund abortion.
Since when is it the business of Democrats to determine what salaries are in excess? In excess of what? Some subjective number determined by a mix of independently wealthy lawmakers who know they can write themselves out of future taxes and middle-income activists who know they’ll never be subject to the tax? The HRC lists five major rating criteria, each with its own lengthy subsets, for companies to gain — or lose — CEI points. The main categories are: “Workforce Protections,” “Inclusive Benefits,” “Supporting an Inclusive Culture,” “Corporate Social Responsibility and Responsible Citizenship.”

In his 67-page straight-talking opinion, Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk stuck to the facts — something Americans desperately need to hear after decades of euphemistic discussions about abortion.
Federal Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk’s Friday decision freezing the FDA’s approval of the abortion-pill combination, mifepristone and misoprostol, included these phrases and more. And while the left is already attacking Kacsmaryk’s 67-page straight-talking opinion in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA by framing it as filled with anti-abortionrhetoric, the Trump appointee stuck to the facts — something Americans desperately need to hear after decades of euphemistic discussions about abortion.
“Unborn humans.” “Eugenics.” “Head, hands, and legs, with defined fingers and toes.” “Shame, regret, anxiety, depression, drug abuse, and suicidal thoughts.”
The court then explained the drugs and their functioning: “Mifepristone — also known as RU-486 or Mifeprex — is a synthetic steroid that blocks the hormone progesterone, halts nutrition, and ultimately starves the unborn human until death.” But “because mifepristone alone will not always complete the abortion,” the court continued, “the FDA mandates a two-step drug regimen: mifepristone to kill the unborn human, followed by misoprostol to induce cramping and contractions to expel the unborn human from the mother’s womb.”
Judge Kacsmaryk also exposed the political pressure placed on the FDA to approve the abortion drug — something Americans are likely to appreciate more today in the aftermath of the FDA’s hasty approval of the Covid mRNA shots.
Kacsmaryk also concluded the evidence the FDA supposedly relied upon to approve the abortion drugs failed to support the conclusion that they were “safe and effective under particular conditions of use.” And finally, Kacsmaryk held the FDA’s approval of mail distribution violated the 1873 Comstock Act, which makes it illegal to use the mail to deliver any “article or thing designed, adapted, or intended for producing abortion.”
The Biden administration has already filed a notice of appeal with the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and in issuing his opinion in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA, Kacsmaryk entered a temporary stay, which he or the court of appeals will likely make permanent pending resolution of the case. Thus, abortion pills will remain available for now.
The Biden administration is signaling that it is open to ignoring a Texas judge’s ruling to halt the approval of the abortion-on-demand pill mifepristone.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortex on Friday had argued on CNN that the Biden administration should merely ignore the Texas judge’s ruling against the abortion pill.

The documents also detailed how Ukraine’s air defenses protecting Ukrainian troops on the front line could be ‘completely reduced’ by May 23.

Cuomo, his top aide Melissa DeRosa, and state and health officials also exhibited “deliberate indifference” toward nursing home residents, leading to as many as 15,000 avoidable COVID deaths, Sean Newman claimed in a lawsuit filed in Brooklyn Federal Court on March 28.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s former top Covid doctor, has admitted that he was “wrong” on masks.
Unfortunately, he is doubling down in the face of new evidence to the contrary that show masks do not significantly impact viral transmission.
A new study reveals that even wearing masks in hospitals had no significant impact on Covid-19 transmission during the Omicron wave.
The research team carried out the study at St. George’s Hospital in south-west London during the Omicron wave between December 2021 and September 2022.
During phase one of the study, between early December and June, all staff and visitors were required to wear face masks in both clinical and non-clinical areas. In phase two, between early June and mid-September, surgical mask-wearing policy was removed for the majority of the hospital but remained for staff in high-risk wards.
The result? No statistically significant difference in Covid transmission rates.
The new research adds to the voluminous evidence that masking among the general public was ineffective in slowing transmission of Covid-19. The American Institute of Economic Research documented over 25 scientific studies in 2021 that show that masks are “ineffective in reducing transmission” of the coronavirus.
Prolonged masking has been shown to do substantial psychological harm to individuals, and particularly to infants and children. However, medical experts like Dr. Fauci have consistently ignored the social and psychological costs of masking and continue to tout the failed public health policy in defiance of the scientific evidence.

In September 2022 we learned the FBI was running operatives inside The Oath Keepers on January 6th. The DOJ sprung this on the Oath Keepers members before their trial in Washington DC before a Kangaroo Court. The US government finally admitted in this letter they sent out before the trial that they were running Confidential Human Sources (CHS) inside the Oath Keepers organization on January 6.
In November 2022 the FBI finally admitted they had 8 informants inside the Proud Boys organization on January 6 and likely more.
And now the DOJ is admitting to 40 government CHS agents were undercover on January 6th.
Investigative journalist James O’Keefe and Election Watch have stumbled upon a bizarre occurrence in Democratic campaign filings; thousands of small donations totaling often close to a couple of hundred thousand dollars per person made to Democrats from elderly Democrats. It seemed rather strange that these elderly people, who appear to almost all life in average homes and are unemployed, would contribute excessive donations, which average out to multiple donations a day for years. Who makes donations like that? Some people sign up to contribute once a month, which is normal, not multiple times a day.
Considering all of the Smurfs discovered so far are over 65, there are concerns that this involves not just campaign finance laws, identity theft, and possible money laundering, but also elder abuse. However, one sleuth said he attempted to talk to a Smurf and could not get a response since they’re now being warned.
This isn’t the first time ActBlue has been accused of strange donations. An investigation by the Take Back Action Fund in 2020 discovered that nearly half of all 2019 donations to ActBlue were made by people claiming to be unemployed, totaling $346 million. And then there’s the Pandora’s box he just opened. Here’s my question: does any of Alvin Bragg’s treatment of President Trump constitute a civil rights violation? We actually have a law against that. Its title is “MISCONDUCT BY LAW ENFORCEMENT & OTHER GOVERNMENT ACTORS — Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law” (18 USC §242). It states:
This provision makes it a crime for someone acting under color of law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.
Has Bragg run afoul of the 4th Amendment? I like this passage:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation[.]
What exactly is the “probable cause” when Bragg won’t say what the crime is? Is there any chance that Bragg or his minions pulled a “Clinesmith” with their sworn affidavits to get search warrants? If they lied, they’re criminals under the above stated statute. The fact that a judge signed off on the warrant doesn’t make it legal — it makes the judge either a prosecution witness or a criminal himself.
Then there’s this passage from the 5th Amendment:
… nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law …
Is charging Trump with a crime that isn’t a crime Bragg’s idea of “due process”? Will a jury of his peers see it the same way?
There’s also this one from the 6th Amendment:
… and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.
When Bragg dragged Trump from Florida to New York, and booked him without telling him the underlying felony, was he informing Trump of the “nature and cause of the accusation”? Is he denying Trump “the assistance of counsel for his defense” if Trump’s legal team doesn’t know what they’re defending him against?
Finally, there’s also the 14th Amendment. I like this passage:
… nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
When Bragg promised to “get Trump,” even before any crime was alleged, was that his idea of “equal protection”?
Alvin Bragg could face criminal prosecution by the Justice Department if it deems the damages serious enough — like interfering in a presidential election (we call that insurrection now). Just in case Bragg doesn’t know, the statute of limitations for 18 USC §242 is seven years. He has until April of 2030 to wait for a knock on his door by a friendly federal SWAT team — that being the way it’s done now. Is there any chance we’ll have a Republican-appointed A.G. sometime before 2030 — one that wants to clean up the corruption? Did Bragg give thought to any of that?

Nashville Rep. Justin Jones and Memphis Rep. Justin Pearson violated the Tennessee General Assembly’s decorum requirements when they held up a protest sign and shouted into a bullhorn, encouraging left-wing rioters who were illegally disrupting legislative proceedings last week.
Eventually, the noise coming from Jones, Pearson, and insurrectionists grew so raucous members of the General Assembly were forced to exit the chamber and suspend legislative business.
Democrats have responded to the insurrection instigators’ rightful expulsions in hysterics, claiming the assembly’s decision to expel Johnson and Pearson was undemocratic and racist. Some even claimed the expulsion signals that Tennessee is less free than North Korea.
Leftists claim Jones and Pearson were expelled simply because they are black, given that Gloria Johnson, another representative who is white, stood next to the two men during the Tennessee insurrection but was not expelled.
However, Johnson’s own lawyer separated her from Jones and Pearson, pointing out Johnson did not shout, let alone scream into a bullhorn during the Tennessee insurrection. Instead, Johnson stood silently next to the other two men. Johnson survived the expulsion by only one vote but was stripped of her committee assignments.
Ironically, the only example of real racism came from Jones, who described his former colleague, Rep. Sabi “Doc” Kumar, as “a brown face” because Kumar is an Indian immigrant who happens to be Republican. This week, while pretending racism was the cause of his expulsion, Jones found time to double down on this bigotry, saying Kumar is only a Republican because he’s “confused.”

The Chinese government has announced that it will begin to stop and inspect any ship that is seen sailing through the Taiwan Strait, according to alarming new reports.
Taiwan has stated that it will not cooperate with any kind of “search and seizure” by the People’s Liberation Army Navy.
House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Rep. Michael McCaul is warning that the US may have to send troops to Taiwan should China invade the island nation.

“Are they prepared to do this? Is Taiwan worth it?” he asked. “I can argue for a lot of reasons why it is.”

The Department of Education (ED) on Thursday released its proposed changes to Title IX, a landmark civil rights law intended to curb sex-based discrimination in federally-funded education, preventing “categorical” bans on transgender athletes within public K-12 schools and colleges.
Under the proposed changes, public K-12 schools and colleges would be prohibited from adopting a “one-size-fits-all-policy” which prohibits students from joining sports teams on the basis of gender identity. Title IX bars schools that receive federal funding from excluding any student on the basis of sex.

New law requires voters to provide an Ohio or federally issued photo identification.
As Ohio voters cast ballots today for a May 2 primary, the state’s new voter ID law is also in effect.
Early voting began Wednesday but the new requirements passed in December and signed into law by Gov. Mike DeWine didn’t take effect until today. Secretary of State Frank LaRose issued a directive earlier this year that required the new regulations to begin when early voting began Wednesday.
LaRose had said having two separate processes for the same election could potentially violate constitutional equal protection guarantees.
He said another option would be to ignore the changes for the May primary and make them effective for future elections, but he believes that would violate state law.
There are no statewide offices up for election this year, meaning the primary election deals with local races and local issues.
The new law requires voters to provide an Ohio or federally issued photo identification. Also, beginning Friday, the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles began providing state photo IDs free of cost to any Ohioan who would want one.

Lab-grown food company GOOD Meat received FDA approval for its ‘cultivated chicken’ product on Tuesday
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a “no questions” response to GOOD Meat, marking the company’s lab-grown chicken product safe to eat.
“We have no questions at this time regarding GOOD Meat’s conclusion that foods comprised of or containing cultured chicken cell material [are] as safe as comparable foods produced by other methods,” the FDA said in a March 20 letter to the company.
The FDA’s letter “clears a crucial step in bringing GOOD Meat to restaurants and retail in the US,” GOOD Meat said in a statement Tuesday, adding that it “is now working with the US Department of Agriculture on necessary approvals.”

President Joe Biden vetoed a bipartisan bill that would limit his administration’s broad interpretation of the “waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule that grants the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) significant new authority.
The president rejected the bill, arguing that his administration’s new rule provides “clear rules of the road” to protect both economic efforts and water quality under the Clean Water Act, according to the veto. The rule dramatically expands the traditional limits of WOTUS — which allow the EPA to regulate navigable waters — to include all territorial seas, interstate waters, adjacent wetlands, traditional waters’ tributaries and some artificial reservoirs.
“The resolution would leave Americans without a clear definition of ‘Waters of the United States,’” Biden said in the veto. “The increased uncertainty caused by H.J. Res. 27 would threaten economic growth, including for agriculture, local economies, and downstream communities.”

Central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) pose a foundational threat to America’s economic systems with absolutely no upsides, according to a recent analysis from the Cato Institute, which stressed that a U.S. CBDC will threaten citizens’ “core freedoms” from financial privacy to personal liberty.
Even though there are no valid reasons for the U.S. government to issue a CBDC when “the costs are so high and the benefits are so low,” significant efforts are being made by government officials and central bankers to launch the digital currency “in a bid to solidify government control over payments systems,” said the institute’s assessment report published Tuesday.
“As entrenched as this effort may already be, a U.S. CBDC would ultimately usurp the private sector and endanger Americans’ core freedoms.“Therefore, it should have no place in the American economy. Congress should explicitly prohibit the Federal Reserve and the Department of the Treasury from issuing a CBDC in any form.”
The public sentiment in the United States is in the majority against introducing a CBDC in the country, evidenced by over two‐thirds of the 2,052 comment letters written by concerned citizens to the Fed opposing its plans for a digital dollar. Based on CATO analysis, commenters were concerned about CBDCs posing “a substantial threat to financial privacy, financial freedom, and the very foundation of the banking system.”
For example, the government could limit purchases to “essential” goods during state-imposed lockdowns, impose gun control, or even freeze an individual’s ability to access their own money.
Bills introduced in the Texas House and Senate would create a state-issued, gold-backed digital currency.
Enactment of this legislation would create an option for people to transact business in sound money, set the stage to undermine the Federal Reserve’s monopoly on money and create a viable alternative to a central bank digital currency (CBDC).
Sen. Bryan Hughes (R) introduced Senate Bill 2334 (SB2334) on March 10. Rep. Mark Dorazio (R) introduced a companion, House Bill 4903 (HB4903) on the same day. The legislation would require the state comptroller to establish a digital currency that is fully backed by gold and fully redeemable in cash or gold as well. The comptroller would also be required to create a mechanism to use this gold-backed digital currency in everyday transactions.
The state of Texas would hold gold backing the currency in trust on behalf of the digital currency holders.
“The trustee shall maintain enough gold to provide for the redemption in gold of all units of the digital currency that have been issued and are not yet redeemed for money or gold.”
IMPACT
The creation of a state-issued gold-backed digital currency would create currency competition with Federal Reserve notes and undermine the Fed’s monopoly on money. It would also provide an alternative if the Federal Reserve implements a central bank digital currency.

A New York federal judge ruled that the U.S. Virgin Islands and women who accuse the late investor Jeffrey Epstein of sexual abuse can proceed with lawsuits claiming that JPMorgan Chase knowingly benefited from participating in Epstein’s sex-trafficking scheme.
The judge also allowed parts of a separate, similar lawsuit by Epstein’s accusers against Deutsche Bank to proceed.
Epstein, a wealthy former friend of Donald Trump, Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew, killed himself in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal child sex-trafficking charges.
In addition, the judge allowed parts of a separate, similar lawsuit by Epstein’s accusers against Deutsche Bank, including the claim that that bank also knowingly benefited.

Law enforcement officials in Colorado have arrested a transgender individual with a communist manifesto for allegedly planning mass shootings at schools and churches in the area.
The individual, who The Daily Wire is not naming due to company policy about not giving notoriety to mass killers or those who allegedly aspire to commit such atrocities, is a biological male who goes by a different female name and uses “she/her” pronouns.

Felony suspects released without bail thanks to New York’s bail reform law are more likely to be rearrested for more felonies, including violent crimes, than suspects who were given bail before the law went into effect.
A study by researchers at John Jay College of Criminal Justice reviewed cases prior to the New York law taking effect and cases after the law was implemented where most suspects arrested for crimes are not required to pay any bail to be released from jail.
Overall, the study found that 47 percent of New York City suspects previously charged with felonies were rearrested for crimes — including more than 31 percent of whom were rearrested for felonies, more than 17 percent rearrested for violent crimes, and almost four percent rearrested for firearm charges.
In all three categories, felonies, violent crimes, and firearm charges, felony suspects had a higher rate of rearrest after they were released without bail than those who were arrested and required to post bail before the new law went into effect.
Perhaps most significantly, the study revealed that suspects with prior violent crime records in New York City had a much higher rate of being rearrested after being released without bail than those who were locked up with bail before the law was implemented.

Of course, when they said “political opponents” they meant “Democrats.”

The Washington Post’s so-called fact-checker, Glenn Kessler, has had a very bad week, finding his own tweets slapped with “community notes” pointing out that they are less than factual.
“Both Trump sons have now posted photos of the judge’s adult daughter. Totally irrelevant — and obviously intended to intimidate,” Kessler tittered.

Kessler’s claim is a flat-out falsehood.
Neither Trump son posted any photos at all. What they did was link to a Breitbart story that has the photo of the judge and his daughter as its featured image. It showed up automatically when the Trumps inputted the story’s URL in their tweets.
Soon, a community note was appended to Kessler’s outrageous fake news tweet.
“The posts in question contain a link to an article alleging that the judge’s daughter previously worked on the Biden-Harris campaign. Neither individual attached a photo; it is the preview image for the linked article,” the note read.
“Why hasn’t this ‘fact-checker’ been fired yet?” another user wondered.
But Kessler made his fake news even worse by altering the Trumps’ tweets, saying, “I removed the photos from their tweets so as not to spread the image further.”
This sent writer Mollie Hemingway to blast Kessler.
“Did you really just deceptively edit these tweets in order to falsely portray the LINKING OF A NEWS STORY ABOUT A PUBLIC FIGURE as the posting of a private individual’s photo? Wow, BANNER FREAKING WEEK, GLENN,” she wrote.
Trump’s case again highlights how New York has among the most restrictive laws in the nation banning cameras and broadcasts inside the courtroom in most proceedings, a law that dates back to the 1930s. Bragg’s legal gymnastics need to be on full display, as he attempts to leap over the statute of limitations, turn a state misdemeanor allegedly committed seven years ago into a federal felony and transform two business transactions into 34 separate crimes. Here’s the hitch: In New York state, TV cameras are barred from the courtroom.
A bill to allow televised coverage awaits action in the New York State Legislature. Lawmakers need to pass it now. The public deserves transparency. All states except New York and Louisiana already permit TV cameras in court.

“City clerk Celestine Jeffreys said the machine at the Green Bay Botanical Garden wasn’t working,” WLUK reported. “Backup machines also did not work.”
The city had to borrow a voting machine from Brown County.
“Those machines had been serviced, so we have to take a much more close look after this election as to whether or not we need to purchase new machines and exactly how we can ensure that that doesn’t happen again,” Jeffreys said. “It’s the same problem we’ve been having at that ward for a couple of different election cycles.”
Jeffreys said more than 7,000 absentee ballots had been returned to the city as of 4 p.m. About 30% of the city’s ballots are cast absentee, she added.
Mark Finchem filed a Motion to Reconsider and new supplemental evidence — providing more confirmation that election day ballots were tampered with — in the Maricopa County Superior Court for his dismissed 2022 Election lawsuit.
Finchem’s request for reconsideration comes shortly after a new exit poll from Rasmussen discovered that Finchem, Hamadeh, and Lake likely won their elections. Additionally, 55% of Arizona voters believe that election problems in Maricopa County likely changed the outcome of the election, and 50% of Arizona voters believe that 2022 election irregularities in heavily Republican areas of Arizona happened intentionally to suppress Republican votes.
Finchem’s supplemental evidence includes new testimony by printing expert Bob Hughes who says he spent 16 years printing election ballots for Maricopa County and “physically inspected the [2022] ballots at MCTEC that were used in the testing of the election tabulators.” Uncover DC reported that Hughes and his team “reviewed each of the Maricopa County Voting Center certification reports and the Tabulator reports that were ‘printed during their testing.’”
